  1. Howdy All

Just wanted to know if anyone had heard of any Yellowfin around Sydney & if not what was happening off Sydney.

Want to try to get out Sunday.

Could be interested in bringing along an experienced Yellowfin fisher if they are on.

  2. Hi all

I have attached a copy of the objection letter that I have sent into Canada Bay council and urge you all to do the same.

I have also spoken to the editor of the Inner west Courier who is interested in doing a story on this and wants to get as many people as possible for a photo at Bayview park Boat ramp. I am happy to try and co-ordinate this so would like some feedback on how many people are interested and availability. I think a weekend soon would be best as consultation period ends on the 25 April 2014. please reply with a message.

    Thanks

  3. HI EVERYONE

Just to keep all informed I have today received a letter from Canada Bay council regarding the closure of Bayview Park Boat Ramp gates and access to residents who hold keys between the hours of sunset and sunrise that they are now finally getting around to a consultation process. If you could call it that.

I note that the wording has now changed in this current letter to not even mention the boat ramp, but to say it is a "review of vehicle access to the Bayview Park car park". They have also passed it on to another member of council whom has never been mentioned before as a contact regarding the matter.

the current letter now fails to mention their suggestion of usage of other boat ramps as an alternative.

VERY NICE ATTEMPT TO DRAW ATTENTION AWAY THAT THEY ARE RESTRICTING ACCESS TO THE BOAT RAMP

After enquiring to the council regarding the number of keys that have been issued to residents I was reluctantly told that only 80 keys have been issued to residents and it is on these numbers that they are blaming the suggested "Security issues". Could it be that there are some influential residents in the units townhouses along side the boat ramp? As I have said before if you buy beside an airport it's a bit stupid to complain about the noise. The same goes for the boat ramp.

I can only assume that the delay in the origional public consultation period has been to avoid doing it in the height of the summer months when the ramp is in higher demand and to have the right people look at it in council to come up with another tactic to not have so much attention on the fact that there is a boat ramp there.

Remember they want the users of this ramp to go to other ramps which is going to overcrowd them. Once they do this at one ramp which ones are next. So this effects us all.

THE PROBLEM COUNCIL CLAIMS CAN BE SIMPLY SOLVED BY INSTALLATION OF AN AUTOMATED GATE TO PASS HOLDERS.

Consultation feedback can sent to Mr. Ben Richards by the 24 April 2014. council@canadabay.nsw.gov.au

I will post my letter when completed.

If anyone want any more information just contact me

  4. Hi All

Just to add to Sami's post regarding Bayview Park Boat ramp closure.

Despite the council telling us they were going to have a consultation period over summer with users of the ramp they failed to do so. Given that it is the busiest and best time to have consulted with users it doesn't surprise me and seems convenient.

However I have spoken to council a number of times and they have advised recently that the consultation will now take place at the end of March. I will post when and how it will be done when I know more.

    Cheers

  6. You obviously don't keep up with council proposals.

I didn't post the thread to get into some stupid debate simply to ask those who are interested in the ongoing access to our Harbour that we all have a right to to make their feelings known to those who make the decisions.

If that is not you enjoy Talpin park and what is to come when councils start these plans at other ramps in the same council controlled area.

  7. HI Bentstick

You are right they have been locked at night with residents who apply for keys able to get access which I pointed out. Remember we often do with mates with their boats.

The flow on effect is that we then start using other boat ramps crowding them and there car parks which will lead to what was mentioned.

I think we have to look after every little issue that we have to protect all issues that effect us all.

  8. Hi Raiders

I would like to bring to everyones attention the proposed full closure of Bayview Park Boat ramp and encourage everyone to take a few minutes to let the people listed below know your objection to it.

Bayview Park boat ramp for those of you who do not know is located at the end of Burwood Road in the Canada Bay council area. It has recently undergone an upgrade with our ratepayers and Maritime money and is a very good facility especially for the larger trailer boats of which there are few good ramps to get them in at.

The council in its infinite wisdom held a council meeting without notification to "discuss the increase security issues" at Bayview park and decided that it is recommending that the gates be locked fully between the hours of sunset and sunrise (real good for fishos). Using the excuse of security issues of which in my time of using the ramp over the last three years I have seen none they are going to go to a period of "consultation" of which they do not specify how it will be carried out and I am sure that by the end of summer with very little if any consultation done at all the council will close the gates.

Could it be that the residents that move into the units beside the ramp complain so much or someone living there with access to council complain so much that council are going down this road because after enquiring to the local police there doesn't seem to be too many security issues. Just like those who move in beside an airport then complain about the noise. If you don't like it move the boat ramp was there first.

Currently residents who request a key to the gates can obtain one but this will be stopped under the new proposal as the council claims that the gates get left open. Maybe the gates just require something like a a swipe card entry that closes behind once you enter.

Remember fellow fishermen this happens at one ramp by one council others will follow.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please act.

people to let know your thoughts and that we don't want to take this lying down.

    JohnOsland (council@canadabay.nsw.gov.au)

    Mayor Angelo Tsirekas (angelo.tsirekas@canadabay.nsw.gov.au)

IF THIS CONCERNS YOU PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO LET THE COUNCIL KNOW THEY ARE THERE TO SERVE THE PEOPLE

    Thank You

  11. Hey Guys, went out early Tuesday to try and start my Kingy campaign. Had plenty of squid in the tank early and so I thought things were looking pretty good. Man was I wrong. I tried everything, every marker, every reef, trolling, drifting, whole live squid, squid strips, berley.

Went outside up to Blue Fish Point. Did not even see a fish on the sounder. Was going to go to Long Reef but was getting low on fuel from all the moving around. I don't profess to be a Kingy Guru but I can normlaly hold my own and fill my esky on most occasions. No surface action anywhere either.

The 20 minute drive home with the boat on the trailer felt like 2 hours. Don't think it's happening in the Harbour yet unfortunately. I even ended up releasing two of the squid I had caught back into the kelp to be a Kingy candy for another day and maybe some good karma with the fishing Gods for the next trip.

Hi. Had the same problem last week. Any tips on where to get the squid. Been trying for ages and just cant get them.
