  1. Finely putting some hours on the Suzuki could not be happier. Yes still miss the smell of 2stroke in the morning (habit). So quiet have to look to see if it is running at idle. Uses hardly any fuel.

  2. Thanks have been crabbing a few years now in the lake. The numbers seem to get less and less each year. May be they should bring in a no take law for all female crabs to include those without eggs. Females with eggs already in laws regulations. These are our breeding stock. Females only breed once or twice in there lives. With the increasing pressure on stocks this could not hurt. Usually get out early and when I get back to ramp could sell parking spot for $5 especially on weekends.

  3. Decided to put out some crab pots while running in new motor. All fresh bait, water temp 18deg, usual spot soak for hour. Pulled pots 0. Tried another 2 spots 0. Thought I would have to do nudie run around boat ramp(Berkeley ramp). Last spot 1 crab no run. Talking to another bloke and his wife they got nothing. Pros were netting down at Tallawarra 3 boats.

  4. Finely got to put some hours on new motor. Not fully run in but can run at full power for short periods (rocket). The difference is outstanding. The boat seems to like around 4500 rpm. Very happy. Put out some crab pots see reports.

  5. Repower update  Picked up boat on Friday. Started run in Monday, Tuesday. Just past 4000rpm stage. So quiet and uses hardly any fuel. Digital gauge have more info than I could ask for. The mechanic did a great job +++++ nothing was a bother, explained how things work. Dont know if I can give him a plug on this forum. He seems to work on all brands of motor. Just waiting for the rain to stop and see how she performs at revs compared to old motor.

  6. Suzuki has a bigger bore &stroke 72.5x76mm and 12 valve, gear ratio 2.27:1. Yamaha bore & stroke 65x75mm and 6 valve, gear ratio 2.00:1. At the end of the day they are both very close to each other. Suzuki in stock Yamaha have 4 to 6 weeks.

  7. Just ordered Suzuki 50hp delivered to dealer Friday. Same specs as 40hp. Little more rpms. Would have had to wait 4 -6 weeks for Yamaha. Yamaha 40hp 747cm, Suzuki 40hp 941, cm both 3 cylinder. Yamaha 50hp is 4cylinder 996cm. Long wait time. Interested to see how new motor compares with old Yamaha at same rpms.

  8. The old 40yamaha has seen out its life (36years) need a new 4stroke. Tossing up between Yamaha F40 & Suzuki DF40. Change over price nearly the same. Much the same motor  Warranty 3Years Yamaha, 6Years Suzuki. Any thoughts please.

  9. In NSW part of your boating fees payed to RMS has to be spent only boating infrastructure. Every year or so they ask  Registrations of Interest for NSW Boating Now Program (google info). There is no reason for the responsible organisation not apply. RMS also have a standard for boat ramp infrastructure https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/projects/better-boating-program/nsw-boat-ramp-facility-guidelines.pdf.This worth a look. So the money is there (your money) the guidelines. Please pass on.

  10. Berkeley ramp:  potholes and loose gravel, wharf to height above water 1.5m(very hard to exit or enter boat),large gap between road and wharf with narrow gangway unhand railed, no disabled access, boat parking area dirt (worn away) with large prop between bitumen road, etc. It has been brought to the attention of Crown Lands on numerous occasions sighting OHS concerns and other. The reaction was we do not have to upgrade just maintain area to a standard ??? The Crown Lands can apply to Roads and Maritime for funding to upgrade this facility. Other government and non government organisations have applied and received grants. Why not Crown Lands??? EG  Oakflats ramp is well maintained by Shellharbour Council and the received some funding from RMS.

  11. I would like to nominate Lake Illawarra,  Wollongong Council side the council is Not Responsible.  The Department of Crown Lands are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. These ramps and jetties have fallen into disrepair. They are dangerous and 0ne has fallen into the lake. Most jetties are closed & ramps require an upgrade to bring close to RMS standards.

  12. Went out to try and catch a few blue swimmer crabs. Usually there are a few by now. Water temp 19c. RESULT 0. Went over to talk to some other blokes 3 who had the max allowed pots they had 4crabs. The pro boat was out and he had heaps of pots and he had a few crabs (pots out all night). Where have all the crabs gone. Cant even get a feed. Mowie1

  13. Weatherzone have changed there internet page. They have taken out the Marine section. We used to be able to track a southerly change as it moved up the coast. Now there is no marine section at all on the site. Why change this if not broken? not happy Jan. Does anyone know of an alternative site where this can be done? Thanks Peter

  14. Hi all  just started my annual outboard maintenance for my 40hp Yamaha. Took the thermostat out to find it covered in salt (has been in 2 years ).I flush the motor after every use. This started me thinking how much salt build up is there in water jacket etc. Had a look on the net, came across a few flushing liquids that are to connect to flushing unit that claim to get rid of salt in motor. Q has anyone used these products and are they worth the($150 aprox)? Thanks
