Was able to finally take the Mrs for a spot of blackfishing at my Balmain location yesterday. Fished two hours to the run-in tide and one hour after, landed some great fish and OfCourse lost some real thumpers. They loved the cabbage weed, did not even touch the string weed.
Had a lady walk past and tell me how cruel I was for keeping fish and that I should throw it back, I proceeded to politely ask her if she ate meat? of which she just turned her back and silently walked away. My wife out fished me and got white line fever, light a prop forward about to start a game of origin ... lol
All in all, a great day, followed by a few drinks and late lunch at a nearby pub. Again, thanking DerekD for taking time out and teaching me how it is all done.

Nice catch, I had some nice Ocean Blackfish last night, caught a few rippers on fly, should have taken a few photos, but that's just the way it is. They are great eating, fillet, skin, cut the centre blood line away, along with the row of bones, the bigger the fish the better with Blackfish.
Hi Noel, I am sure there are previous posts on here regarding how best to cook blackfish, can you point me in the right direction? Any suggestions on how you or other cook blackfish ?

Hi all
I have for a long time wanted to learn the art of black fishing, finally last Friday, I was fortunate enough to have DerekD take some time out to teach and pass on his knowledge to me.
We started the process by collecting cabbage weed from the lower northern beache, DerekD then explained the rig set up and how to adjust the sinker according to your particular float. as well as setting the stopper to the right depth. After this we proceeded to fish numerous spots along the north side of Sydney. Eventually the fish started biting and we had an absolute ball of a time.
DerekD your an absolute gentleman, and thankyou for passing on your knowledge. Looking forward to out next fishing trip.
Cheers

Can probably arrange something. Was going to collect some cabbage weed on Thursday afternoon for fishing this weekend but weather forecast is not good for the weekend. Will have to see if the Bureau Of Misinformation (a term a friend of mine uses) is true to form.

Please keep me informed regarding your next outing, as I would really appreciate tagging along if o.k with you.

Hi All
I am reaching out to anyone who may be able to help me with the art of blackfishing. I have been very frustrated the last 3 trip, I believe I need someone to perhaps teach me a few things " onsite ". If anyone here is planning a blackfishing trip any day, I would really appreciate it if I could come along and learn, I am even willing to pay for your time.
Thanks everyone, looking forward to responses.

Dear fishing friends
I would dearly appreciate it if someone could be so kind as to teach me how to do black fishing. Knowledge of where to find the cabbage weed, the fishing setup and where to fish.
If anyone can help me learn, as I stated above, it would be much appreciated.

Hi Daniel, I am glad you like your boat and I have seen and been in these and decided not to stock or sell them. Not sure why you replied to me, I was talking about a 4.80M glass boat not a 4.3M alloy boat and I hope you paid about $6K for your boat only because that is what it would be worth if I chose to stock and sell these boats.
Cheers,
Huey.

Just sent you an email.

I recently did what you are planning, I had a 40yr old tinnie with a newer tralier and motor. The boat was coroding away before my eyes! I rung around all the boat dealers and all the hull only prices were far to expensive to justify. I ended up getting a really good deal on a hull & tralier from one of the chinese importers. I sold the tralier (nothing wrong, just too wide to fit in my carport) and have had the boat for a bit under a year now. The construction of the boat is fantastic, with lots of re-inforcments and big wide welds, it performs beautifuly and I couldn't be happier
Hi Daniel
Chinese importer ? Could you let me know who please ? even if you pm me.

Hi fellow raiders,
I am intrested in looking to buy a boat hull only. Currently I have a old fiberglass hull, which is older than me in age,( over 40 old years give or take )
It has served me well in the 3 years I have had the boat, but now I would like to buy a new hull. The motor I have is a 90hp Evinrude E-tec,it doesnt miss a beat, so I want to keep it, its only 3 years old too. My Budget is about 10 thousand, is it possible to land a 4.75 used alloy or fiberglass hull thats in decent condition? or am I dreaming ? If so , can anyone give me pointers please, everytime I do a search on the net , it send me to www.boatsales or boatpoint, and there are very few hulls for sale.
Any help will do, I live in the hills district but will look anywhere for a new hull.
Cheers

Hi Luderick - angler
The spot I went to, in little bay was on the right hand side as your looking towards the open sea, walked up till there was a u shaped cut in where the waves would hit, thats the best way I can describe it matey. If you could please pm me some spots in the pitty or the harbour it would be very much appreciated, however I think I also need to know the right setup and technique. My boat is avaiable if you ever has some spare time to mentor an eager fisho.....
Look forward to hearing back from you

So, were you getting downs or not ?
Hi Macman
No matey I didnt get any downs, the only time I did was when I got snagged, so I made the leader smaller. I copied to the best of my ability the setup of the other people who were successful in catching them, but still no luck.
5 lb line, float, small slit shot sinkers, small size 8 , 10 hook, weed , was from little bay itself.
a bit frustrating on the day.....

Thanks for the advisw fellas
Koaloboi - I was fishing Little bay , its behind some sort of medical clinic and golf course, on the right hand side of the rocks. There were two guys with very similar setups as mine, the only difference is that they were pulling them in, I wasn't , not matter how hard I tried to adjust. I tried to ask them for a few pointers, they were friendly enough, unfortunately their English was poor.
luderick -angler - I would love to know places in pittwater or Hawkesbury as I live in the hills district as its easier to make to trip, also I have a boat.
I would love to learn of places in the northern beaches to do my black fishing.
Cheers

Hi all
Amongst other fishing, Blackfishing has always been a big desire of mine, the only problem is I stink at it. This is now my fourth trip without any success. I think my son is starting to realize that dad for all his efforts hasn't got any idea...lol
Anyway, if anyone could be so nice as to help me out, I would really appreciate it, I live in Sydney's Hills district, but am willing to travel. Its amazing, when you put so much effort in and zilch, then you look at the old boys next to you pulling them in like nothing.
Thanks all

Gday raiders, managed to get out this morning with dad. With the abysmal reports of squid around we didn't try too hard with the squid, and resorted to yakkas. ended up gettin about 15 yakkas but most were horses so wasn't too confident. Met up with Josh88 and he said they were headed to Longy so thought I may as well go to. Pretty much as soon as we got there everyone was hooking up, we caught them today trolling yakkas, drifting yakkas on soft plastics and I puled out a little 80g knife jig and was outfishing the livies about 4:1. From what everyone said they were all rats today (i managed one keeper of 67cm, the rest were too small). Fun way to spend the morning but can't wait to start some cracking some bigger models.
Hey tentonner
When you mention "Long reef" do you mean " long reef wall or long reef wide ? do you know where I could get Gps co-ordinates for the location. Thanks

Finally got a chance to fish with a fellow fishraider this morning. I promised him a king, sorry I couldnt find you a keeper Louis, but seeing you have fun with the rats was great!
All up we landed 3 kings around the 57cm. We only fished for 1hr so it wasnt all that bad.
There taking squid and yakkas!. Get amongst them on a weekday guys. There are no crowds!
Hey there billy
For those who have not personally met , Billy all I can say is he is a wealth of knowledge on the fishing front and a true gentleman.
Had a great day today, pleasure being out there with ya mate ! Look forward to doing it again soon.

sad to hear you guys didn't manage any good kings to speak of. I hope the day was fun anyway.
HI Fellas
I we managed about 10 rats at quarantie, but they all went back in as they were well undersized. At about 8.oo am told my mate, I had to go to the loo and try and buy a hat, scince I forgot my one at home and the sun was on us, anyway we went to balmoral public warf, on arrival, a group on guys fishing there, had a bucket with about I'd say 30 dead baby leatherjackets. I am talking less than 10 cm big. When I asked them what the hell did they think they were going to do with them , on of the one guys says " none off your bussiness bro " #$#$%%^ OFF!!. Then if this wasnt so bad, as we were leaving one of there mates jumps off the warf with a spear gun, bloody idiots.
I tell ya was a great day before I witnessed this crap. I too witnessed a few $%%^$$ heads keep undersized fish at quarantine. Something has to be done, I am going to send the authorities an email today , Im not holding my breath.
