Squid alley (spit) still does ok now and then, but its hard to get consistant squid inside Middle Harbour, you just gotta try all the usual haunts like Balmoral, The old Fisherman Shacks, Lady Jane Beach etc, you will find squid at one of them on most days
With balmoral, is off the wharf best?

Im only getting flathead at the moment, i really want to get into bream on the hardbodies. Any tips? I think i need to find a spot with more structure? at the moment ive been fishing weed beds and sand flats, so i guess the flathead catchs make sense and im not complaining haha.
@howdoweplaythis Cheers mate, stick with it, very exciting when it pays off.

Thanks for the comments.
@Keflapod Hahaha cheers, my fishing gear expenses has obviously conflicted with my footwear budget.

Thanks for the advice fellas. Had my first session on the hardbodies today and was pretty stoked with the results. Used the fat shallow divers and just a slow roll as you suggested, ended up with 6 fish, all flathead, with a couple going close to 50cm. Obviously very new to it, but i can see why you guys love it so much, really enjoyed how pronounced some of the takes were.
Thanks again,

Had 45 minutes to kill on my way to footy training this afternoon, so i thought id try a new spot (off the rocks, just round the corner from clifton gardens). Probably 5th cast my 3inch gulp in the electric chicken got walloped. bit of panic trying to negotiate the rocks but managed to land her (a net would of been nice). im only new to the soft plastics game so this was a real treat for me and a new pb, have to give you all a shout out for the endless advice. I ended the session there, not too bad for a few minutes work. I also let her go to fight another day.
Cheers
p.s thoughts on how long it is? (my shoe is 32cm)

Impressive haul, how did you pick them up?

personally i would start with "fat bodied" divers, these seem to work really well on the bream with the simplest of techniques (slow roll). I would grab some of the berkley 3B fat dogs in shallow and deep, atomic cranks in their deep model all in different colours (i prefer natural) and you will be off to a good start! As i mentioned before all thats needed with these (depending on the fishes mood) is a slow roll, maybe a few pauses if your getting follows and no hits or a sharp twitch in the roll. Good luck with the HB's as they are one of my favourites to use!
Cheers bassboy, will hit the store tomorrow. can't wait to have a session on them.
also, what are your thoughts on the surface hard bodies for targeting trevally, tailor, flathead etc??
-
Hey raiders,
Im looking to start using some hardbody lures, was hoping i could chew your collective ear on where to start,
shallow/deep diving, brands (does price matter?).
Im looking to target flatties and bream, mainly at lake macquarie.
Thanks,

Hey mate,
i was out in middle harbour yesterday and just followed the birds around all day flicking small metals through the fish busting up.. easy way to pick up a few bonito, salmon etc. you could try throwing out a bigger softplastic (7 inch or bigger) with a decent jighead and dropping that below the surface action then retrieving up for kingies.
im no expert either, but could well work for you. either way the surface fish are great fun on light gear.
enjoy

Great report, ill have to invest in a viral stickbait.
keep it up

NIce work mate, you mustve been pumped. I just cracked the soft plastics code too, using the gulp 2" grub pumpkinseed. next stop crankbaits?

What ?
He mentioned that he was catching mullet and asked if anyone had ideas about catching them on lures.
-
Great report mate.
Im also pretty interested in learning how to catch mullet more consistently.
i've only ever caught them using a float and unweighted very small hook, using dough.
Would love to know another technique.

Hey guys,
Im planning on doing some drifting boat fishing, was just wondering what people thought of having a double set up of
both a soft plastic and a bait at the same time.
Can someone explain how i might try and rig it and whether its an effective method?
Cheers
Who's targeting what for the pirtek?
