  1. Very nice mate love the underwater shots. Having caught a few jew in the cooks on 2.5 zmam grubs id say you probably did have a jew if it ran that hard! Shame you didnt get to see it but least you know where he lives :)

  2. G'day raiders!

Well. I'm tying the knot in a weeks time, and our honeymoon is in Fiji for 10 days!

Now. My darling almost - wife rolled her eyes when I said I was taking my travel rod and a few lures (just in case) but she did say she'd like to get a charter for me as a wedding present!

Firstly, looking for advice on charter operators (pm only please if they are not raider associates) for some either in shore, off shore, popping reef fishing and trolling as a last resort. Have been reading up and it seems it's a mixed bag of dodgy operators and gems.

Secondly, apparently there are a few land based options just for a cheeky flick, I was going to run my 9ft 4-7kg rod with a 5k sustain and 30lb braid and leader. If this is a bit stupid let me know (too light for decent stuff too heavy for light work etc.) Taking a couple of stick baits and poppers over, few hbs maybe, might take plastics if they're useful.

Any info or past experiences would be great. Regardless of the fishing it's still going to be great to escape the wedding planning horror story haha.

    Cheers

  3. Nice fish Ben. Had the heart pumping on that light gear eh?!

Thanks for the tuition on Sat, I really enjoyed it. Guess I picked the right tutor judging by this!

Where you using the flicks off the bottom or a rolling retrieve? Did it hit on the pause do you know?

    Anyway, congratulations again.

Thanks also to all the organisers and tutors, snag scorchers and bread butterers on the day!

    Definitely woke me up!

Not a problem mate, and yup exactly the retrieve I was showing you, two flicks of the rod off the bottom, and got struck in that magic strike period where the lure is just floating down / just touching bottom!

The fg is supposedly one of the strongest tested knots. It certainly is low profile and a big advantage to casting with a baitcaster. Cheers.

Big fan of the fg mate, I like getting the most of my line strength and it's just such a low profile that it whizzes through my small guides
  4. Well done man, like the lure shot. Just wondering, do they always have such yellow mouths and patches around the insides of the gill plates, or do you think that's a result of the system they're in? (the one I caught in the Cooks had a similar colour and I wasn't sure if it was to do with the pollution)

Thanks mate! Wouldn't know about the colouring, haven't had a good look inside the previous captures, seemed lovely and clean on the outside so I'm not sure of the pollution effect

Great work mate! Is that a Kietech on a 1/4oz? Most realistic swimming softies I've seen yet, you must be stoked!

Cheers mate [emoji2] that one is just a humble gulp minnow, but I've used the Keitechs and they are great, fish arrow is the other brand I find have the best imitation. 1/16th head as there was little flow and wind

    Great catch Ben.

I'm sure nobody doubted your talent.

Sorry I had to miss SP day now. Sigh...

    Well done!

Cheers mate, hopefully a few of my learners will snag a couple soon!

Trade you a plastics day for a blackie day some time soon! Still needa christen the new rods properly!

  5. I use the nano px in spin, the nano resin makes for a very soft blank but with a crispness to it and a bit of backbone. Very parabolic bends to them, not as much balls as my other 2-4kg rates rods due to the softness. Use the nano xt baitcaster and find its quite whippy too.

  6. G'day raiders!

Well, after being given a soap box yesterday and a bunch of eager listeners to indulge me, I then couldn't get a fish on the line to prove my words! Some fisherman I am [emoji14]

Decided on a bit of an early morning redemption session today, having woken up at 3am to play taxi to the airport figured I was already awake so might as well have a flick!

Hit the lower Parra by 5:30 am and just as the birds decided it was dawn had my first cast.

With the hope of Salmon I was running my 1-4 kg Battler and 2004 certate with 6lb leader and a little smelt gulp minnow riding a 1/16th head. Two flicks off the bottom and I got that distinctive *tap*.

Struck up and lost about 30 meters of line in the first few seconds.

Strong head shakes and tail beats and slugging it out deep, knew I was onto a schoolie. Messaged my mate hurry up with the net!

The fish took off again and went around a concrete wall where the bay bends back on itself, for a split second I felt my braid rub on the wall so in a zero style maneuver I dumped my bag and hoisted myself up the wall and managed to get the pressure on him in the other direction, making him swim back around to safer ground.

After a few tense moments near some oysters up popped the silver. My mate arrived with the net and a few happy snaps later I lowered her back down and she swam off strong to grow bigger. No measure but a lovely little silver slab to start the morning :)

  7. Excellent work mate, yup they definitely work! I've had great luck on the smaller lures for jewies in that system, grubs and paddle tails, think its to do with the bait schools theyre usually sittinf under. But I know others like the 5 inches and clean up too :) keep it up gotta love a trev tho they fight hard!

  8. Gotta love a bit of yak burn Haha. I've been caught out by the overcast a few times this summer [emoji14]

Great work mate very productive day! Yakking gets very addictive, working out where everything goes is always a bit of fun.

Looking forward to more of your reports

    Cheers

  9. Leash it or lose it! Not proud to say I've lost some good gear over the side. I have a milk crate with rod holders attached behind me with the stretchy leashes you get from the big chain fishing store, and I use bungy chord with carabiner for my net. Only rod not leashed Is the one I'm using and I've got a scotty powerlock holder which secures it nicely

  10. Not much info on spots from my end as with so many rats marauding around in packs it's usually a situation of running into them! But as for taking the yak out its definitely very doable just need to keep your head on your shoulders and eyes on the boat traffic. Few times I've been retying a leader and not watching my surroundings only to find a boat coming at me. Generally if you're out of the channel it's no issue, just keep your eyes peeled :)
