  1. Just a follow up.

Before I took to the corrosion myself, I contacted shimano as per a few members suggestions.  The reel was purchased in 2013 so still within 10yr warranty: but no chance of any proof of purchase.

Credit where credits due, shimano service/tech support were very helpful and explained what I needed to do fill out a warranty form and send it in. I was worried about timing prior to Easter that it would take ages.

not long after it was sent I received notice the parcel was at the post office and I called shimano to see why it had been bounced back (expecting that I was being told not under warranty)  - turns out they just replaced the part and sent it back ASAP no questions. I was genuinely surprised how hassle free this interaction was.

It pays to buy good gear, from whatever company is willing to back them with agood warranty

*I should note they look at the overall condition when assessing these things. If I gave them an absolute neglected mess I am sure it would have been a different story.

  2. Hi Team,

I was replacing my line on my Saragosa 10000 and discovered some pitted white corrosion that occurred under the spool.

does anyone have a solution. To manage this corrosion and pitting. As it is a bit rough and don’t want to damage any new line. I thought sand and maybe a bit of wax?

I don’t want to replace the line until I work out what to do with the pitting. And it’s a good reel so would be a shame to send it to retirement!

  3. Hi raiders,

I am down in Eden for a week for work. Despite being freezing at night, it is pretty awesome down here.

Does anyone have any tips for land based spots. I generally have the evenings to fish and have a light 7ft bream rod and 20lb, 12ft rod beach/ rock setup with me.

    Cheers,

    Dan

  4. looking at getting the TD SOL type 2 3000 or 4000

I have a 4000 sol II, great reel for the price above that you are paying lots more for not too many improvements in my opinion.

  5. I've been out to the manly hydraulics facility and have seen the wave Ryder bouys out for maintenance. Pretty amazing to see the amount of growth on them not to mention the amount of fishing line too!!

As for why they take them out, I don't know. General maintenance sure but the whole assembly seems funny.

  6. Interesting link to the records... not a lot of record fish caught recently. Most are pre 2000. Couldn't see any in this decade.

I though the record for carp out of centennial park in 2008 was a good one!! They are the only things getting bigger!!!

  7. Nice work mate. Did you make the fly yourself? I occasionally see a few luderick around Sydney harbour and have thought it would be fun to make a few flys to keep in the tackle box ( I would still just fish with a spinning rod though )

  8. Lots of yakkas at balmoral. Get in close to the island and burley up. You can't miss it as there are often a few boats there catching bait.Sabiki's are good but if you are like me after the first yakka you spend the next half hour untangling the thing. I stick to a hand line with a single small hook and a bit of pillie. While you are there throw a squid jig around too.

I'm with devil ray about fishing with them.

    Have fun!

  9. I think we should all submit our concern to the EPA.

From viewing the smh feature which has photos of the oil, caltex and EPA have said it is a light sheen. Those photos show a thick product and it seems apparent the EPA are not taking this seriously enough.

  10. I am thinking to fishing at Little Bay, NSW on Saturday in the morning around 6.30 AM with Jigheads + Squidgies SP + Stiffy poppers on Finesse Bream Rod 762.

Will anyone recommend low tide fishing at Little Bay and where will be the best place the fish on low tide?

I know I can access the beach by walking down the wooden stairs. This allow me to fish on location marked A and can walk to B.

    How can I access C, D and E?

I have read on forum people talking about jullianne rocks, the trap, etc etc.. Where are these located on the MAP?

I have read on the forum, people did good catch on Rapala X-Rap. I am thinking of getting one as well..

    Hi,

Access to c and d are easy walks around the beach or to get to c walk through the golf course. D is just a walk around.

E is a walk around the south rocks. None of these points are hard to get to. Never had any luck with fish in the bay but use caution when fishing the rocks.

  11. A bit late to reply but I like this topic!

I guess the $75k is a number beyond my means having a family etc but the key point that was raised was that it's a lifestyle choice not a financial one. For someone who has two kids under two - if you plan in having a family any time soon, consider this as your fishing time will be greatly reduced!

Another thing not really touched on is the car - once the boat gets to big you'll need to consider your towing options. If you need a new car too....

This topic raises a few questions for me as I have a 40yr old tinnie still going strong and will be looking for a family friendly upgrade in the next few years for something that can last for ages and take my fishing to the next level.

Where is a good price point to start looking for a 2nd hand boat that can handle the open ocean a bit better and provide a few more comforts. Also a boat that can be handled by one person. Is 20-30k a good starting point?

Price creep is always an issue when looking at boats as there is always something bigger or better. I could easily choose a 75k boat!!

  12. Who every told u longtails carry cig poisoning has gotta be having a joke... Never herd of it in longtails.

True, though it really got me thinking about it when I was told and shown the recent news article. I have no knowledge of these things so I just had to go with what I could find out.

it is however bioaccumulative in warm water fin species. This would mean it is not a species specific toxin so given that it was found in mackerel at Scott's head the week before made me worry, especially if I was to feed it to my young kids.

I made a lot of calls and did a fair bit of reading to try figure it out if it is safe to eat and there was no definitive evidence showing that they were immune from it. What I did find out was how nasty the poisoning is if you get it.

The reality is that there was probably 95% chance it was fine. I was just not willing to risk the 5% chance of being wrong.

It is now in the freezer to be used as bait. A shame I know but it is what it is. Maybe it can be used to catch a dioxin laden fish from Sydney harbour :)
