  1. Hi

On vacation in northern NSW and was wondering if anyone had any experience in catching blackfish in December in Byron Bay /Ballina area. Spoke to a local at the Ballina tackle shop and he said there were none. Just not sure whether he mean none as compared to the many they get in winter or zero.

    regards

  2. Went out with Howsey, Jonno and James today to the inner west. Started very slow at high tide but as soon as the water fell the fish moved in. All but one caught on weed. Quite a few dropped. Howsey, James and Jonno the guru got most. I just pitched in with a few. Many fish bit so lightly we only realised they were hooked when we reeled in to check the bait only to find a fish on. Amazing.

Great day all in all, made a lot better by a the company.

    Till next time boys.post-31210-0-02856300-1448620537_thumb.jpgpost-31210-0-70803200-1448620546_thumb.jpeg

  3. I got my black fishing hit this am. As usual I thought thats it for a few weeks. Soon as I got home I started looking at the tides for next weekend and started sound the other half out about a visa for a fishing session next weekend.

  4. yes and it was not a good look when a few kids were standing on the side making all sorts of exclamations about how cute the pelican looked and we were desperately trying to chase the darn thing away. One fisho (no names mentioned) tossed a small stone in its direction much to the disgust of the kids. Sigh, wait till they have a fish stolen from them when they are older, the darn penguin will not look so cute then.

    regards

    Nice fish

That's a record that has been broken a few times lately.

I am sure the senior black fishermen on the forum have caught much bigger. What really impressed me was the rod. There has been a lot written about snyder glas, G loomis and LOX etc (all quite expensive) but, the budget Wilson 2 piece blackfish rod from BCF for $95 coped with the fish without any stress. Some expert skills from Howsy in the netting department was the clincher off course.

    Cheers

  6. Went out with my good buddy Howsy today for some fishing at a beautiful spot we had not been to before. Spits of rain and afternoon sun. Great drift but downs were few and far between. Ended up with with one each and one bust up each due to a snapped lines. A lot of patience for 2 fish. Hard day at the office.

  7. Went out with Howsy and a new blackfisherman all 14 years of him in the inner west today. I was supposed to give him some lessons but Howsy was soon indoctrinating him on the dark art of blackfishing. The lad was a good learner and lo and behold before the end of the session he bagged his first fish with Howsy looking on with a proud smile and a quiet word of encouragement. I suspect that Howsy forgot all about me for the day - how quickly one goes from hero to zero.

Great day out and another blackfisherman is born.

  8. Hello to all the wise men/women on this forum

With the onset of blackfishing high season and the problems with finding, collecting and storing blackfish weed I have become fascinated by the art of fishing flies for blackfish. I have bought some but the hook is always exposed on those I bought and my mentor Howsy has always said do not expose the hook if you want to catch fish. So I did the usual, youtube, forums and stores before buying some dubbing for $6 and tying these 3 in about 5 min with minimum effort. Looks very natural and I plan to give it some aniseed spray then use it. Tried not to leave the hook exposed. Would not mind constructive comment from the Guru's on the board.

    Cheers
