  1. Thanks NWHC,

Love your shots, what did you run the steel wool on, a cordless drill?

Love that last shot of the sun rise and milkyway mate.

    Cheers,

    Rich

    Thanks mate.

With the steel wool you get a metal whisk tied to some rope or wire. Fill the whisk with steel wool light it and spin. Wear sunnies or close your eyes and don't do it near any dry grass etc...

That last shot isn't the sun just the bright lights.

Cargo it's all about practice keep at it.

  2. Nice work Mr Squidy, id love to see the aurora one day!

I had a camping trip at Diamond head 2 weekends ago and tried something new Steel wool spinning its a bit dangerous but lots of fun. I left the camera out for 2 hours to get a timelapse / star trails but left it on RAW and the memory card kept buffering so didn't work.

  3. Hi All,

Was out flicking some plastics on the weekend when i noticed a clicking sound coming from my reel, after some investigation it appears to be from the bail arm area happens after the bail it opened and a quick fast retrieve stops it.

Im hoping its a quick fix i can do so i dont have to be with out the reel has anyone had any experience with this before?

    video of the issue below.

  4. I would imagine collaroy would not be the best, but plenty of spots between there and byron. Byron may also be good depending on which direction you are shooting.

Little places like seal rocks, mungo brush, diamond head etc would be ideal spots to have a stop over just time it with the moon and you will have some of the darkest skies around.

  5. Had another late session this afternoon with another colour this one is clear but with gold on the gills 2nd cast landed a nice little whiting dropped him while stuffing around with the phone to take a picture. Only got about 20 casts in before it went dark also got a fat little toady.

I've just ordered some more very impressed with them so far.

  6. Astrophotography is one of my hobbys just wish i had more time its very weather dependant plus finding somewhere with little light pollution.

Here a few of my more successful ones.

    20 second exposure @F1.4 iso 3200

    Same settings as above.

Same settings again but this one is a 3 shot vertical panoramic.

My first go at star trails, i added a few wrong frames hence the broken start of the trails. 180 x 20 second exposures

    10577200_675817725840843_382899775345396

As above but with a "comet " effect added while stacking.

And my latest one whilst fishing i made a little fire and sat back to watch the meteors while waiting for the drag to scream.

this one is a blend of 3 x 20 second exposures.

Keen to see what you guys can capture in the future.

  7. Hi Raiders,

Had a bit of a drunken purchase last month and grabbed a few of the Trulinoya 35mm cranks from china for $2.40 each delivered i thought i had nothing to lose.

So anyways they finally rocked up so i snuck out on dusk to try them out.

    9.jpg

5 minutes in and bam a hungry little flathead took a liking to it.

    1.jpg
Then just as it was getting dark another little flathead had a go.
    8.jpg
So far pretty impressed with the value for money. Got a leave pass from the family today at lunch, was the start of the run out in the local so i thought i would give them a go on the flats.
Sight casted what i thought was a good bream next to the submerged log in the pic below turned out to be a solid luderick, unfortunately he spat the lure at my feet... or so i thought.
    6.jpg
Next cast and i lost a acrobatic mullet or tailor it was only on for a second.
    3.jpg
First cast at the snag on the left and bam a healthy little bream, This is where i notice the broken treble from the battle with the luderick.
    7.jpg
    5.jpg
After that i tried another 2 colours but had no luck had a short hook up on the red colour felt like another little tailor, Tried an atomic 38 in ghost gil brown and a atomic bream shad in muddy prawn in a few deeper holes but no luck.

Thanks for reading, new owner trebles ordered so far i must say well worth the money.
  8. Hi all,

I'm looking for a medium sized spinning reel for flicking off the beach I looked at a few > $200 reels but for a bit more the stradic / salina look much better value for money.

Have not heard much about the salinas so looking for anyone who owns one also is anyone knows the weight of the 5000 can't seem to find it anywhere, the stradic on the other hand I have only heard good things I just don't like the colour :).

Thanks for any help towards making my decision.

    Cheers
