  1. Great catch Krispy!! Anyone mind telling me which spots to try around the harbour? Doesn't have to be any secret spots. I just recently got my first boat and not to familiar with boat ramps location and where you are allowed and not allowed to fish in the harbour. The boat has only been in the water once in the hawkesbury for a test run since I brought it. Cheers. Tamzie

  2. Glad you had a good time up here! Shoal bay is certainly productive this time of year. The first photo is a blind shark and the second a numb ray!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

P.s don't touch the numb ray!

I learnt the hard way, didn't know what a numb ray (electric ray) was until I took the hook out from its mouth.. Zzzaap... Scared the cr#p out of me...

  3. Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your expertise, I will definitely get insurance as 100% of the votes is to YES. never have I thought outside the box regarding boat insurance to cover my backside and others property. Those figures $$$ you guys thrown at me are very indeed a scary thought.

Thanks everyone once again on your valuable advise. I'll let you know I get the boat and insurance.

BTW.... How much am I expecting to pay? Just curious so I don't get a big shock... Lol... And can't seem find online quotes for boat...

  4. Hi Mateys,

I'm very close to buying my first boat, I'm wondering if it's worth buying insurance for a boat worth $7000??

Fyi, I may be picking up the boat sometime this week or early next week so need to get all this stuff finalised. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Tamzie28

    Hi Fab1,

Sorry mate currently out shopping with the Mrs and kids, not able to type much Ha-ha..

We anchored up and dropped the burley pod. Started fishing at 7pm (running in of high tide) and the fish started biting, heated for about 1hour and then stopped for a bit (30min) and started biting for another 20 minutes. The hole we fished in is about 4-5 meters.

Gotta run.. The Mrs calling... [emoji30]

  6. HI

Things to look for when going out for an inspection.

Check that the engine starts easily and that it is pumping lots of water

Check that the water gets warm

    Check the prop for damage

Look for rust in the trailer

Look and see if the bearings are wearing (you might have to lift it up and roll the wheels for that)

Check the trailer and tyres (including the spare)

Check that you have a wheel brace that can take the trailer wheels off.

Check that the lights are working

Johnsons are good engines, but it depends on how its been looked after.

Sometimes the oil mixer gets disconnected and they prefer to premix the oil and the petrol

in the tank. Check the tank and the fittings. Look for hard fuel lines. They'll need to be replaced

    at some point.

Not sure where you are located but there is a site sponsor who will be able to do an inspection for you.

    Any help?

    Hi antonywardle,

Great list of tips, I'm in Liverpool NSW BTW. The boats in Nowra

  7. Best advise I could offer is don't be in a rush, stick to your intended spend, look for well known brands, test drive and wait until winter as prices seem to drop!

And remember if it's to good to be true, it usually is!

    Good luck!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

    Thanks for the tip Scratchie

  8. Hi Raiders,

I'm looking for a runabout boat about 4m. I found one for about $7000. Comes with 4m Seahunter eclipse hull, 35hp Johnsons oil injection 3 cylinder (been converted to a 2 stroke) bimini, storm covers, fish finder and all the safety gear.

I've got no knowledge of boat brands quality etc... What I need to know is

    1. If the price is good

    2. Is the hull a reliable brand

    3. Is the outboard reliable

    4. What I should be looking for when inspecting and test run.

I have searched all of Google and cannot find any information on the brand of the hull.

The only brands I know for hulls are quintrex, Stacers and brooker.

    Thanks Raiders.

    Regards,

  9. Hi All,

    My first fishing post/report.

Headed off 6am to Forster Tuncurry, got there at 10 ish. Got to our cabins and unloaded our stuff, we headed to the break wall with calm and beautiful weather/conditions.

First cast using cubed pillie, to my excitement I couldn't believe it not even 2 minutes and bzzzzz went the reel, first fish a 27cm bream, 2nd cast again bzzz this time a 30cm bream. Now the best one... Casted and as soon as it hit the water bzzzzz, this time it felt different, a lot more power and it was peeling line and I thought to my self I'm going to loose this... Running 10lb main and 6lb leader on shimano stradic 2500 ci4+. After about 5min I see some colour and to my surprise this is my PB silver trevally @ 41cm [emoji2]. My brother also bagged 2 trevally @ 40cm, Tailor @ 43cm and a black fish @ 39cm. All in all its been a great weekend. fbdb6c3f382e700fe3fcb4e39520ed4c.jpg25c548d4fbdfc2350231baa0f3c2904d.jpg

  10. Hi tamzie. Welcome to the site. I know what you mean about Bay postage costs.

Have you tried just asking over the counter at your local tackle retailer. I've had a few special orders from tworld. They seem to be able to get almost anything from the bigger names. I've found the prices reasonable an no postage :)

Cheers mate.... Never thought about tworld... Tried bcf and BLAH BLAH BLAH no good.

    Might try tworld this weekend.

  11. Hi All,

First post... Please be gentle... :)

Been with the forum for a bit. Been reading a lot of reports and updates which are all great.

Ok back to the main point. Does anyone know where I can buy a reel storage bag/case. Needs to fit about 6-8 reels. Can be online or from a shop but needs to be from Australia. Price $90 max. I've seen heaps from UK sites but they charge an arm and leg for shipping.
