  1. I agree with Jewel. I used to fish the inshore reefs at Evans Head in a mates 4.3m Quintrex fishrunner. It was a top platform and not too expensive. His was a centre console and had a 40hp on the back. It was great. You could fish the rivers and the close reefs with ease.

btw - a 3.8m would limit your fishing trips big time. Only the calmest weather would be safe...

    Good luck

  2. Good point Lawrie. I kind of take it for granted that gilling a jewie isn't that hard... I forgot to point out the gill-rakers - thanks for that.

Once you learn to gill a jewie you'd never go back to gaffing - but that's for beach and boat fishing in my opinion. Rock fishing is a different story, you can't really get close enough to them to do it safely.

  3. From a boat I like to gill my fish. The guy i fish with likes boga grips. Sometimes a gaff has been used to. You need to let the weight of the fish sink the gaff point. I use the gaff off the rocks.

  4. Do you see the irony in having a stocking project in a river that gets hammered by the pros. I couldn't confirm the other thread here abouts that 2500kg of jew were netted there recently. Does the money for stocking of this species come from the recreational licences? It's funny how this arguement has been circular - I was kind of thinking that the jew post in here by Matt should be in it's own thread, but in a way it highlights the problem with spending our money.

Sorry Hooky, just noticed your reply in the Jewfish slaughter thread :1clap:

  5. Grant - I don't know about that rig, but my dream rig in the same line class at the moment is a 4000 Stradic matched to a Nitro- Magnum Butt Distance Spin 7'6"

    Nitro Rods

It might be a bit out of your price range though - mine to at the moment, but I'm gunna hold out for it.

I was going to use it for jews on SPs and probably light spinning pelagics off the rocks or boat.

    Cheers

  6. I was heading up the central coast on Thursday night and drove past your rig on the side of the road on the F3. My first thought was - they're heading to SWR the lucky so and so's. Not hard to guess, given all the reports!

    Great report.
