  1. Hello 1800, and welcome to fishraider!

First off, good choice of rod and reel there. That's a great all rounder.

Me personally(and it's not necessarily right), I'd spool it with 10lbs braid with about 16lbs fluro leader. I have caught whiting, bream right up to a 66cm King on this set up.

You should never spool a reel with all braid. Reason being, braid slips against a metal surface, so your line would slip and you could not reel in the fish(no matter how tight the drag). You can either put electrical tape on your reel, or spool up some mono then add your braid as top shot. Personally I prefer some mono, this way I can buy less braid (125 metres instead of 250 metres). Make sure the mono is stronger than the braid.

The easiest way to connect fluro or mono to braid is the Uni to uni knot. You need at least 10 turns on the braid side and 5 turns on the fluro or mono side. 2 metres of fluro leader should be enough, braid rubbing against rocks = snapped line. Fluro is also near invisible in water so the fish won't see a bright line connected to your bait and will be more likely to bite.

There is a forum title 'braid vs mono' I suggest you look at that.

Hope this helps! Good luck mate.

    Thanks for the quick reply

I had a look at the Mono V Braid thread, it was very technical in regards to the type and make of braid.

With the base level of mono for braid, should you put enough on to cover the metal of the spool or just fill it half way.

Also how much braid is required to fill each spool

  2. Hi All,

I have recently purchased 3 of these sets (Shimano Quickfire Spin 701 / Cazna 4000FI Combo Silver & Black 7 ft)

The reel is a Cazna 4000

So I need some advice on what type line to get, how heavy the line should be, what brand and how much line to get so it spools up all 3 of those reels.

I have no bias towards braid or mono.

Price wise, preferably the cheaper the better as the users will be all beginners (who have used braid before), but happy to pay for braid or better quality line if its better value for money.

Most if not all of the fishing will be land based fishing targeting pretty much anything that will take the bait, so the type of fish we could be catching (or hopefully catching) will be like snapper, bream, whiting, flathead, jews or even kings. Will be using baits most of the time but may try flicking soft plastics or lures every now and then.

I was thinking maybe spooling half the spool with mono then filling the other half with braid? or should I get all braid or all mono.

Any advice or ideas will be appreciated.

    Regards
