  1. My father salvaged this from the old Coroners Court and Morgue at The Rocks in Sydney before it moved to Glebe.

Pre refrigeration, bodies were displayed on this Cooling Table. He had plans to restore it and it was going to be a homework desk for us kids. Mum wouldn’t let it inside the house, so it stayed in his shed.

It passed on to me, I have since passed it on to the Powerhouse.

  2. Sounds like a pretty good session. Those big Bream don’t grow to that size if they’re silly.

Theharbour is full of rabbit fish or black trevally as we call them, bait stealing pest to a blackfisho but excellent eating I hear.

A member called Krispy! used to fish around the pylons at Hickson Rd using 80lb braid straight to the hook to get the big surgeons.

  3. Hi Deckies,
Just to be clear I haven’t posted this add anywhere, just an example of the garbage artificial intelligence can come up with. Enjoy.

  4. Thanks Baitdropper,

I’ve worked in the landscape industry on the north shore of Sydney for decades and I’ve had my share of ticks, leaches, bull ants and wasps. While working for a large landscape company at Bayview my apprentice got a tick on his back, a nurse removed it, but half an hour later he said he didn’t feel well, he didn’t look well either, lips swollen, eyes puffed up. We had to call an ambulance. Luckily not anaphylaxis this time, but we were advised next time it could be.

I did a lot of research and came up with this synthetic pyrethrum wash called Debugger that you treat your clothes with, I reckon it’s good for 3 months or so.

About 10 years ago I worked for a very well known garden designer who used to write for the SMH. He got a tick somewhere on the nth shore and went into a slow decline. Doctors here couldn’t do much for him because we don’t have Lyme disease in Australia ( same as we don’t have Rabies, hello bat lyssavirus ). His bloods got sent to the States and came back positive. He went overseas for treatment and made a little progress, he developed problems with his speech, movement and digestion. He ended up confined to a wheelchair in a nursing home in his mid 50s. Sadly he passed away in 2021. In lieu of flowers his family asked for donations to Multiple Systems Atrophy Research Fund NSW.

  6. Hi Koalaboi

I just googled Glenelg de luxe and your post from 2008 was second on the list. Absolute bargain at $10. It would be worth much more to the right person.

I have heard that older cane rods were made using animal source glue which deteriorates over time, and you should be careful.

The cane version comes from the 1950s , the solid glass version is from the 1960s.

I pulled this one out if the hard rubbish collection down the road. Cork grips reel seat and butt are in great condition. 2 piece 9 foot long, very similar to a fly rod. All guides are shot so it needs a full Reno. I've only seen one before, I gave it to Gianni as his first blackfish rod years ago.

I'll redo this over Christmas, it won't be original, epoxy wash and underbound black and white Fuji guides, should be fun to fish with.

  7. I spoke to my rod builder, he suggested the SU series
I’ve taken out the sand spike and put the blank on the best scales I have, it comes up around 440g depending how I place it. Calling it SU7144FT.
The butt dimension is spot on, the tip is about 1/3 of a mm thicker, the blank is overall 1 cm longer than 366. Slight variations71C87C6E-319F-4999-BB7E-430E8E77A040.thumb.jpeg.af9b34898a2f9b664f451d4addd4518d.jpeg

  8. It’s 12ft, butt is 28mm and the tip is 3.5mm. The walls of the blank are close to 1.5mm

Compared to my Pacific Composites and Snyder Mag Surf both 7 wrap the action is faster and it’s heavier. I don’t have any other to compare it to.
Here are model charts from  Butterworth, it’s not on there, 66F96C6F-6FB4-4DCF-92B7-8A415E7367D3.thumb.png.1436dd5ab4c782ab3c5c97531cfb481b.png01AAAFD4-96B9-4322-BFFF-54A534C8F7FA.thumb.png.4f99bdf064b46303b013ffce8f5976e2.pngbut it does have the original Butterworth decal.

  9. Hi Raiders,

I picked up a vintage Butterworth beach rod when I was up the coast. I stripped the guides and removed the reel seat hoping to get a model number all I found was 0.1 on the blank and the rear wooden grip. It doesn’t match any models on the Butterworth catalogue.  It’s pretty stiff I think it could be an 8 or 9144, any thoughts?
