  1. So my mate tells me today that he forgot to book with Wollondilly River Station, so the Easter Weekend trip we've had planned is out the window!!! :ranting2:

Does anyone know of any other camping spots we can head to that might still be available this close to Easter?

All we want is a river to fish in (trout if possible!), no facilities are needed, were men and happy to sleep in the bush!

Within an hour or so of Mittagong, and if possible 2wd access, fires allowed.

Thanks a lot, feel free to PM if you don't want to give away your secret spot!

  2. Hi, does anyone know where I can buy (or find plans to make) a trap for freshwater eels that is legal to use in public waters? Ie, won't trap and kill platypus/turtles, but will still reasonably catch eels? You might think I'm crazy, but I love a feed of eel every now and then!

    Thanks!

  3. I'm thinking about going down to the Wollondilly River to see if I can't snag a trout. The only time I have available in the foreseeable future is Thursday evening/Friday morning. The only problem is we've obviously had a lot of rain in the last week, and expecting 5-10mils each day. Would I be wasting my time heading down or will the fish still bite? I'm keen to try out my new tassie devils!

    Thanks

  4. Thanks Neil. We will be fishing in a river. Looks like I'll be raiding the worm farm! I might also just try a few lures to see if I can catch a redfin for lunch, then get out the corn and try to catch a nice big carp.

  5. Hi all, a mate of mine wants to head out on the weekend and target carp and redfin, but I've never caught (let alone targeted!) these species before. Can anyone please offer any tips?

Will I catch them both on the same baits or will I need separate baits for both?

    Thanks!

  6. It had been raining for days in advance, but we had planned this for weeks, so we were going down regardless!

Arrived at the Yalwal camp ground late Sunday arvo, set up the tent, lit a fire, threw a few hand lines in from the bank hoping to catch a nice eel for breakfast then hit the beers and went to bed.

Got up at 6, and all the hand lines had been snapped, so obviously we had caught eel, but unfortunately it wasn't going to be breakfast! Straight onto the water in the inflatable, we can see a few bass hitting the surface, so we slyly try to entice them in. I'm using a cicada surface lure and my mate on a diver.

Unfortunately we were on the water til 11am but didn't catch a thing. I think the weather may have been working against us.

An enjoyable trip though, can't wait til the next time!
