  1. I pulled into a petrol station when I lived in NZ & the place was a-buzz - a bloke was filling up is boat with petrol & when it got to over 100 litres, he says - but the tank is only 80l, how could that be??

Pretty easy to explain when you put the petrol nozzle in the rod holder instead of the petrol tank!! He had over 100l of petrol in his bilge!

    Very explosive situation!

I didn't hang round to find out what happened, but I reckon some choice words were said!

    Cheers

    Now THAT is funny!!!

  2. gday mate I went for a fish today, I checked hill 60 first and with the winds blowing SW and looking a bit rough around the rocks I went off the end of the breakwall at port kembla harbour for a fish protected by the wind and with assistance for casting. Conditions were good, just no fish around... arghh thats fishing.

Tough luck mate, that's fishing for ya, at least you got some sorta rod bendage ;)

Tr=ue Ben, sounds like I made the right decision in not going down. Oh well, next Friday will hopefully be the go there.

  3. Hi everyone,

My chance to get out there and wet a line finally came today, with a day off and no plans made. I had already decided to give my trip to Hill 60 a miss due to the possibility of a large swell and not knwong the area well enough to tackle it on my own just yet.

I picked up the fresh prawns and all my gear and headed to Lilli Pilli baths, arrivign around 6.00am. It already had 4 people fishing it, including one guy with a rod so long that it's almost reach the sandflats of Maianabar. No point haning around so I figured Wally's Wharf was the way to go. Got there about 10 mins later and sure enough, the whole front section of the pontoon was full. I can't imagine what these places are like on the weekend if they're so busy during the week.

Off I went to the pontoon to the right of Captain Cook Bridge, near the charter/party boat area (Sans Souci Park I think..). Stayed there for about an hour and caught 4 undersize bream... actually seriously undersize bream... but at least I felt the tug on my line which I'd almost given up on. There were some other people around me catching poddy mullet.... Left for home, spun some soft plastics at Donnelly Park near my place, which were chased by small something or others and called it quits.

At least it got me out of bed early. Loking forward to the day I can finally get my own boat and fish where I like, when I like..... Oh well.... stilll better than the best day working as they say..

  4. from memory, head right down to the end of Lilli Pilli Point Road. At the end ther, there'll be a road/driveway to the left that looks like a gated entrance. Take that and you'll see parking for about 8 or so cars on your left. Park there and it's right next to the bathes and the small wharf.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Nel,

The spot is the Picnic Area at the end of Warumbul Rd in the Royal National Park. If you look at any map, it's not too far from Lilli Pilli (as the crow flies) but is a bit of a drive. Lots of little snapper at the bottom but was quite active on the surface in the morning when I was there. Access is only after 7.00am I think.

Thanks Pmak, I suppose it's worth the drive though if you're able to escape the crowds on a weekend morning..

  6. That's a good point, Wettingaline. The only thing that has me confused is that there are still many places able to use the old system (eg watto's). I always thought that making it as easy as possible to pay for your license should be a priority. Obviously if for whatever reason someone gets the runaround, in particular a part time fisho that wets his line a couple of times a year, they may be tempted to say 'bugger this' and just fish without a license. Sure it's a risk but I've never had my license asked for so how much lost revenue is potentially out there?

another point, someone wants a 3 day license... how much is that? $5.00?? who in the right mind wants to put through a $5.00 transaction on a credit card with the fees involved etc?? Are the retail outlets going to say that there is a minimum of $x and have the customer forced to spend up on other items in their particular store??

Ok, I might be slightly pedantic, but I'm looking at the various situations that may arise. I may be cynical as well, having come from a time when fishing was a right, not a privilege. Oh well...

    Cheers

  7. hi there fellow raiders

I was wondering if there were any other raider who have had the misfortune of purchasing a

coxs craft  ( reef runner )

the model name might indicate sea worthy but take it from me,

make sure the reef is very close to the ramp

    Ditto.. what's happened?

  8. FYI

We do fishing licences, you can pay either cash or plastic.

we have the hand written licences

You see, Watto is able to take cash. I just wish there was some uniformity and it was the same everywhere. The impression I got was that the only place I could pay cash for my license was at the RTA. Funnily enough, i didn't even know the RTA did fishing licenses!

  9. I went and did some scouting so to speak at around 9am this morning after all the tips I'd been given by everyone on here (thx again!). I started off at the boat ramp at Grays Point but the tide was high and I couldn't see any decent spot to fish from.

I then went past Lilli Pilli baths. There were to guys and a young kid fishing there. Not much happening at that time but I can imagine how hard a place it's be to fish if more than 4 or so people turned up. may leave that for a week day morning.

After there, I decided to go check out Wally's Wharf to suss it out. It was about 10am by then and obvipously no one was fishing and there were boats lined up to go in. I assume any fishing would be done off the pontoon there?

  10. I've just been down to Fishfinder Bait and Tackle to pay for my yearly fishing license and was told that i can't pay cash but have to pay by EFTPOS only! Unfortunately, Christmas blew my budget out and my mastercard is at it's max. I was told I could pay cash if I went into the RTA to pay it.... I was on my lunch break and don't have the tiem to go sit in a qeue...

I may be going fishing tomorrow morning with my son. If a fisheries officer is around, I'll let them know exactly why I haven't got a license on me. It will NOT stop me from gonig if I so wish.

    P&**ed off

    report for STGR warf http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...showtopic=17827

Hi Gazza and thanks. There's another place i can try. Their all good places where I can take my 7 year old son and have a chance of catching a couple of fish.

I remember growing up and going fishing with my uncles. we'd head over to Watsons Bay or to Pier 2 under the bridge and used to have so much fun. I was hooked immediately. funnily enough, all those places i used to go to are off limits to fishing now and there seems to be less and less places to fish these days. No wonder kids grow up and get into all sorts of mischief.

    Once again, thanks to all..

PS Anyoine know if anything can be caught of the small jetty at Donnelly park here in Connells Point?
