  1. Hi

Could  someone please give me some advice I have a house boat booked for a week in the Hawkesbury. I have never been out on one or fished the Hawkesbury so any hints tips ect would be really appreciated. Also if anyone has been out do they have rod holders?

    Thanks

    Hi Mate

do you mean price range? If so $350 - $400 something around that give or take I would like something that is good quality that i wont need or want to replace for a while.

  3. Hello,

I have been looking to get a beach fishing rod and reel but not quite sure where to start. I want to use it for both bait and lure fishing but mainly bait at this stage. I would like to get a shimano reel as i have one now and quite happy with it. I don't really have a target species as such just more something that is versatile.

any help that someone can offer would be great

    thanks.

  4. I only use witches style , they are harder to untangle a Blue swimmer out of but they are quite cheap to replace if lost (this happens often believe it or not) Not that I forget where I left them but you get boats running over them or worse some mongrels getting to them before you do .... Best spots to lay them is anywhere you have weed patches & for bait I've found is mullet out far catches all other baits . I always deploy them from a boat in water 3- 10 meters in depth but you can always throw a couple of the jetty ....Good luck out there .

Thanks for the info mate not really expecting to catch much but it will be fun for us to play around with!

  5. We stayed at Mannering park just after New Years , it was a couple of doors down from the boat ramp ... We didn't have any luck on with blue swimmers but all the kids had a ball fishing with plenty caught (bait) . We were stuck indoors for 4 straight days due to the torrential downpour. Hopefully you'll have better weather .....

Hi Mate thanks for the reply

That's about where we are I believe. The weather I hope improves but it's not looking good we arrive Friday so fingers crossed. What kind of crab pot did you use is it true that only the witches hat type are aloud? if so i have never used them could I use it off the jetty or would I need to put them in deeper water? I have a round 4 entry style pot that I bought in Sydney and was told they are aloud to use but from what I have read it look like they may not be.

  6. Hi Guys

Heading to Mannering Park later this week staying in a house that has a jetty and keen for a bit of fishing. Quite new to fishing so if anyone could give me a bit of advise that would be great. I just bought myself a 2-4 kg spinning rod it has 8 lbs braid and 10 lbs leader looking for some soft plastic to flick around. I also have a crab pot that i would like to put out for a bit of fun for the family.

    Thanks guys

  7. Hello,

thanks for the reply's so now i have it down to

    shimano Aernos 2500 $150

    Symetre 2500 $100

    Stardic 3000 or 1000 $150

i will at this stage be land based and will be matching it with a 7 foot rod

Food for thought. The boating camping and fishing stores currently have Lox rods, and Shimano Stradic Ci4+ reels, on clearance for $150 each. These rods and reels are generally $250 plus, so are a significant saving. I have Pflueger Trions, Diawa Gen Blacks, and now a 1-3 kg Lox. IMHO the Lox is even better than the Gen Blacks. Casts a mile, has a cork grip, and feels nice casting.

i have had a look mate but couldn't see these on the boating fishing camping stores near me?

  8. I have an old 2500 to symetre and starlo stix 2-4 kg and its served me well.

I am no expert but don't rate the new symetre as much.

I'd probably go the Stradic over budget and a rod around 100 ish. I think the trion mentioned above is around that!

Don't forget the braid will cost you around $35 for 150m

    Hi Mate

    thanks for the reply

I have found a stradic 1000 and a 3000 both for $150 but the 2500 i was after is $200 is there much diference between the 3000 and the 2500? sorry if i sound stupid quite new to all of this and I just want to get the best package i can :)

    thanks for the help :)

  9. pflueger trion for the rod i have 5 of them , for the reel i can't help you as i don't have anything under a stradic

    a shimano symetre 2500 maybe ?

    Hi Bream

    thanks for the reply mate

do you know much about the shimano Aernos?

  10. Hi Guys

Just after a little advise I am looking to get a new rod and reel to replace my cheap set up i have now. Looking to spend around $150-$200 on a reel and the same for a rod give or take. I want something around the 2-4kg 7 foot for bream and flathead fishing using both bait and soft plastics. I haven't done a lot of soft plastics fishing but its something i want to do a bit more of when i get my new rod.

thanks for reading and any advise will be much appreciated

    Shane.

    Hi p-ziller

I wont be getting a boat until we relocate in the coming months around May early June. Thanks for the offer tho

  12. Yes a forester will do the job too. I used to pull a 5.5m fibreglass out of ramps with a commodore no problems. Never slipped or anything, but if you feel better with all 4, go for it. I have a prado now, love it!

I personally like to have higher cars when it comes to boat ramps so a forester is good, rav4 or honda crv should do it too.

If you need help Once you find a boat etc just ask.

Great thanks Locodave I defiantly would rather an all 4 not just for the ramps but also it would suit our needs better. I spend a fair bit of time up north so having a car I could drive on the beach is appealing also.

I will be sure to take you up on the offer mate in the coming months that is very kind of you.

    Thanks Shane
