1st of all, well done for the catch and nice to hear you had a great time

But regarding keeping all those snapper..........hmmm I really feel uneasy with that. I totally understand it is all your right to keep them, and I am not having a go at you but I would expect fishing charters to keep what you need for a feed and a little plus and release the others. I went on a fishing charter in NZ not a long time ago and we caught over 50 xos kings, and the skipper allowed us only 1 to keep. It is not a surprise, day in day out they still catch plenty of fish

Again, I want to clarify that I'm not here to judge, its just how I feel about it, may be it is just me

    kind regards

  2. The bloody jackets were all over the humps at the Peak... with that many around you might as well just throw your $20.00 jigs over the side of the boat and not bother tying it on! Same result in the end!

Wasted all my time and fuel getting there only to find packs of these devil fish.. instant depression.

  3. Wow great report Trung and thanks for the advice the other day - I have booked already to go in May with the same boys - woooohooooo :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: I might pm you soon for some more details if thats ok and will see you in the bay soon!

    Dave

Trung is a great dude and he will be more than happy to give you some good tips. Basically, as the kings are in plague proportion any jig of any brand will do the job, so there's no need to buy expensive jigs. Jigs were catching most fish but livies caught the biggest ones. You don't have to bring your own gears as they already have good gears on board - steles and jigging master. But, of course, you can bring your own if you want. I you are flying with Jetstar make sure your rod tube is not more than 1m90, Pete learned it the hard way and had to leave his SP rods in Sydney. One advice man, hit the gym asap as these hoodlums nearing 30kg will test your strength and endurance to the limit!!! Trung couldn't reach his back in the shower, so Pete had to help him....just ask him :)

    cheers

  5. It was indeed a memorable and amazing 2 days fishing with the 3 musketeers in Trung, Tommy and Pete. A few months ago i replied to Trung's message regarding a 4th fisho willing to join and I have no regrets at all. My biggest kingie was caught in Sydney and weighed 3kg. Toby the skipper asked me if I ever caught kingies before, I said hell yeah but when I said it was 3kg he laughed at me and promised that I will catch at least one 10 times that. My first kingie was caught on a livie and guess what? Toby's prediction was very close, it went 29kg on the scale. And what a beast it was, I was in pain and instead of helping me the boys were laughing at me. Apparently my legs were shaking, but hey there's no proof of that!

A big thumb up to Toby the skipper who worked his ass off the whole day to put us on the kingies.

But the best part of the trip for me is that now I have 3 more friends in my life. I have the reputation of being mischievious, but compare to these guys I'm an angel. If you have your guard down, you'll a smelly in the face......and i had to sleep with 1 eye open!!! Awesome fishing, great company, beautiful part of the world, excellent food....what can you ask for more?

    Cheers

  6. Hi Raiders

haven't had a fish in 5 months and decided to head out to botany in my 80% completed Polycraft which i picked up a few months earlier.

Got to the ramp at 9am launched the boat only to find i left the boat keys at home! WTF ! Back home to pickup keys and finally on the water at 11am. :ranting2:

Went to find some kings with some big sluggos but nothing interested... Then went to find some squid and managed 6 green eyes in the hour- not bad considering it was noon by now. Here is the first 2 to call my new bait tank home!

    post-10545-070999500 1316257319_thumb.jpg

Headed over to Towra has the winds had picked up and managed 5 flatties on a single pink Slambait. As they say, nothing catches fish like a Slambait! :biggrin2:

Back to the ramp by 3pm.. Good day with the fish and madian Polycraft water test (love the boat!)

Heaps of boat on the water.. wondering how other people went today as not many reports?

See ya all on the water

    Cheers

Hey Trung, go to the gym instead of Botany bay.......u will need strong arms to handle NZ kings :)

  7. Hi guys,

I thought it was not legal to spear rock crabs and that you are only allowed to collect them by hands. May be I'm wrong, I would like to get some clarification on this.

    Cheers

  8. Really...i did mention that i use a second reel for spinning. I meant for live baiting

    Cheers Leo

The baitrunner is a jewel of a reel for livebaiting, I totally agree with you

  9. G'day mate

I also asked myself the same question about 12 months ago and ended up buying a shimano baitrunner 12000d. The max drag is about 12kg from memory but if you are only loading up with 50lb then you don't need 20kg. And i just use a different reel for high speed spinning.

As for the braid i currently have a couple of reels loaded with finns and have never had a problem

    Cheers Leo

The shimano bait runner is definitely not appropriate for what he is looking for. Firstly it is a slow retrieve and if he is gonna spin for bonito, he will need a pop eye arm. secondly, it is way too heavy. A 3000-4000 size daiwa or 6000 size shimano is the way to go.

  10. I don't think adam is breaking any site rule here as he is not promoting any shop. PFA is a supplier of abu garcia products, like daiwa aust is a supplier of daiwa products and shimano aust is a supplier of shimano products. one of the moderators here even recommended me to somebody from PFA for a service/repair of a reel. if i get good service, then i think there's nothig wrong to share that with other members. i would do the same if the service is bad. this is just my point of view, i might be wrong.

    cheers

  11. spot on, global tackle stock the 'Dango Wax Nylon' which is a floating line orange in colour with low memory, high knot strength and high abrasion resistance that makes it ideal for luderick. i bought mine a couple of month ago and i'm very happy with it so far. the 10lb dia is 0.268mm, 12lb is 0.288mm, 18lb is 0.341mm. hope that helps

    cheers

  12. i wish i had a mcwork rod!!!! i'm actually using a daiwa seajigger but at 11ft its a bit too long for sshorejigging as it kills my wrist. if u cant get an mcwork rod, look at the daiko rod which is much cheaper. snag? well i fish a ledge where the water is around 20-30m+, so no snag so far, but the rish is obviously present. shame i cant read japanese :(

    cheers

  13. shorejigging is not popular here in oz but is extremely popular in japan. it is a very effective technique and is deadly on bonnies, kingies, salmons and tuna. the 1st time i shorejig, i outfished 10 other fishos bext to me who were livebaiting with yellowtails.

yep the rods are around 9-10ft designed to throw knifejigs up to 150g and popular brands are daikoh and mcworks. populars reels are twinpower sw8000 or stella and saltiga 4500 loaded with at least 50lb braids

is the magazine u mentioned in english or japanese?
