Nice feed of bream.
We were at St Georges Basin over Easter aswell, Friday the conditions were great, a bit windy on Sat so didn't hit the Basin (site seeing instead at Hyams Beach), and Sunday was pretty good.
We ended up with 5 keeper snappers (largest going 45 cm), a couple of bream and a couple of flathead, all caught using squid, prawns and pillies. There was heaps of just under size bream (between 22cm to 24 cm) and pinkies (between 26 to 28 cm), when you find them, the action was non-stop, just about every cast resulted in a hook-up.

I'm sitting down here, looking after ill parents, had mum in hospital. And then thought yesterday on my way to Nowra Hospital again.....I did not bring a rod, a line, a hook, a lure, nothing, and look at all these boats going out!!!!!

Hope you parents are on the mend, drop by Big W or Kmart, grab yourself a spinning combo, I think there is plenty of shore based fishing spots along that part of the coast.

Mainly down the coast (St Georges Basin on long weekends or if longer than Tathra) when we can, or when visiting parents in Sydney, then its Botany Bay.
Want to try and make more time for fishing, but with a young family (3 kids aged 9, 7 and 4), it's not that easy.

Well done pomey_git, and great to see another "local" Canberrian on fishraider.
Fished Yerrabi pond once, I caught my first ever fish on soft plastics there, a tiny redfin.

Well done T, good to get back out there. I carted mine down to JB and one got on it (family days don't count) once for the week but it was always worth it. Had a plague of seals down there too! Cheers.

I'm guessing, JB is Jervis Bay?
If so, we'll be heading up that way for the first time during the Australia Day long weekend, contemplating wether to bring the boat or not (old girl got fitted out with an 08 90hp Optimax this time last year, and it's only been out on the water once - down in the Bega River), we'll be staying at Callala Beach, the boat is a 5.4 m half cab, will we be able to use the ramp over at Callala Bay?

Great catch, fished out at Windang a few Fridays ago for a couple of whiting too.
I was so surprised how many people fishing, every 5 to 10 meters would be a group fishing all the way from the bridge out towards the mouth. Was there a lot of fisherman around today?

That idiot hit my car panel on the driver side , extended all the way to the panel on top of driver side tyre. Is a brand new Lexus and sigh ! Guess bad luck and nothing more I could do .
That flattie is around 1.2kg at 65cm mark.
Yeah I will be careful with the size limits.

That sucks in regards to your car being damaged like that, but why did you take a brand new car like a Lexus fishing? What about the smelly fish and gear placed in the car, that alone would have been enough for me keep a brand new car in a garage.

Our next big session was a frustrating 4 hours of trying to catch our first beach worms. we raised so many head and as the arched their backs we'd miss them
This session brought out the most amount of swearing which would've scared anyone from the beach.How were you trying to pull the worms?
A trick is to use and old nylon stocking, have you bait in that, hold it to the sand where the worms are popping up, when they grab onto the stocking, they get caught up in the nylon, and its a matter of pulling them out of the sand.

Yes, gurnards are very good to eat.
and not to be confused with the Sargent Baker, first time we ever caught one of those in the Bay, we tossed it back thinking it would be similar to the "mother-in-law" fish, but after the trip and searching the net to ID the first, we learnt that gurnards are indeed a good table fish.

great haul of snapper, don't think I've ever caught a single keeper, just pinkies.
but in regards to the post above, about feeling "uneasy seeing so many fish being kept", but we don't know how many fishos where onboard that charter boat, if it had 10+ people fishing, that lot of fish would only be 3 or 4 per person, so not that much considering the legal bag limits ranges from 2 per person to 10 in SA (or boat limits) depending on location and size of the fish.

Illegal to be caught in possession of a live carp in your bucket or keeper net, but definitely legal to catch and release the fish where you caught it (NSW and the ACT at least).
Same rules applies to Redfins.

Sounds like you had a good time though.
I've only fished Batemans Bay a couple of time, one was on a charter boat, they other was from a friends boat (never land base), but by boat, there was plenty of good fish out in the reef (wrasse, mowies, and snapper), or in the bay for flatties.
Will be there for 7 nights between Christmas and New Years, and we will have our boat with us!

looks like you've done quite well in The Bay again Trung (as always).
Heading off to East Timor on Tuesday morning, will be back on the 12th of Oct, so hope to hit the Bay on Sat the 15th of Oct, hopefully see you out on the water finally.

People laugh when i say i use SLAMbaits... but the truth is i have caught so many fish on them its not funny.. i will outgun my mate who uses gulps/squiddies no problems. The are a little stiff but i work my SP so have never had an issue. A single slam will last half a day!
In the end .. i paid $1 a pack for my slambaits (discontinued product) vs his $8 a pack for gulps.. who is laughing now!

Hi Trung,
Did you buy your Slam baits from Grays Online? If not, you might want to check it out, they regularly have an online auction for the stuff.
Current lot ends in around 21 hours, you get 10 packs for around $9 + postage, and each pack contains 14 Slam bait.
I bought a box full a while back, but not had the opportunity to use them.

Hi Trung,
Read your other post with the new boat/project, it seems you've done well on your new boat.
We've finally got our boat back on the water again (thanks to Craig at Huett's Marine - a more powerful, and more reliable 2nd motor bolted on the back.
Tried it out on the Hawkesbury on Sat, but will hit the Bay on the 15th of Oct.
Hope to catch you on the Bay in the near future.

another question i should have asked is whats the go with flatties and current is it no run no fun rule.

Not exactly sure if it matters too much, was down at Batesman Bay fishing on Sunday, was a bit windy and rough outside, so we came back in and fished area between the Toll Gates (island) and Marine Rescue, and there was flatties a plenty, most was under size, but it was a whole lot of fun.
As soon the bait hit the bottom, there was a flattie on the nibble, it was constant action.
We had to leave them biting as we wanted to get back across the bar before it was right on low tide.

what sort of gear and bait do u use? Im looking into getting gear setup for fishing of rocks and breakwalls, sort of sick of catching small bream in windang atm. Today around 3-6ish caught 3 bream under 20cm.
To fish from the rocks or high break walls, where you can't get close to the water or edge, you would want to arm youself with a surf rod, and use quite heavy line 15 to 20 lbs, as you'll have to be able to flick/lift the fish up and onto land without the line snapping when doing so.
For bait, if you want to target salmons and tailor, a whole pillie on gang hooks will be your best bet.

Great story, hard lessons learnt, but at least no one was hurt and nothing got damaged.
Always check and double check the bung is in (don't think it was put in - be sure it's in), same with tow ball, making sure it's sitting fully down plus putting a padlock into the hole will insure it's in properly.
And try to do day trips to learn the surrounding area before doing night trips, even then things looks very different at night when you can make out landmarks.
Otherwise it seems you got a great package for $5k, hope you have alot more success on your next trip (try to have a exp fisho with you onboard).

Well done Yarraone, sounds like you had a much more productive time at St Georges Basin then we did.
Sat we managed just a single leather jacket, with plenty of throw back pinkies, Sun was family stuff, take kids to the beach, and Monday we weren't going back in until we got a bucket load, all we were able to tempt and hookup was those mullets you saw jumping everywhere.
Caught quite a few bream, but all measured around 23 cm, so all released, the rain started to set in at around 1:30pm, so alled it quits, and had to settle for a bucket load of mullets.
This session brought out the most amount of swearing which would've scared anyone from the beach.
