  1. Hello Raiders,

The wife and I are going on trip to Hobart in late June and I was thinking of taking a couple of rods and gear with me as we both fish we have 5 days and would like to do some beach or jetty fishing on the evenings after our day trips etc.

any recommendations on locations , we will be staying at Seven Mile Beach and will have a car to travel if need.

what type of gear should I pack? more to suit beach or jetty fishing?

P.s from Hobart we go in to Port Douglas and Cairns  so any feed back will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks In Advance

Beware Avomine can make you drowsy, especially if you add beer.

i had a Avomine and 2 beers while on a fishing charter and a couple of hours later on the way home I feel asleep at a set of lights at Epping Road.

    p.s

Mojo you have a bad memory, you keep repeating yourself

My bad thought the comments didn't post as I was having internet issues yesterday.

Thank you Admin for removing the repeat comments.

  3. Hey Raiders,

with the long weekend around the corner who is going out for a fish? I'm thinking of hitting the botany bay this weekend but looking at the weather it isn't so great on Saturday ( the only day I have free ) arrhhh.

question is what is uncomfortable wind /swell in the bay, I'm in a  5.75 tinny with the better half and she is the one that starts to panic if it get a bit rough on the water..

thinking of drifting for flatties and or other species when anchored, seen a report that the trevally is about and about?

my other option is to go to Georges river launch from river road and fish near by holes etc.. however being a long weekend I'm sure the jet ski's will be out and about hooning.

    any other options you suggest?

    cheers

    have a great long weekend

  4. I went past a chemist last night to buy some sea sickness, but as I was speaking to the pharmacist he advised me/ asked me questions on the my needs etc

I asked him about Avomine ( white packet with Green ) the pharmacist advised that this was a very drowsy medication and warned me prior use.

I have googled and can also see the Avomine in different packets like the below

    and a blue packet

this make me ask question to the fellow raider who use  Avomine and one which is this true? does Avomine make you really drowsy? do you still take one the night before and one the morning of the trip?

my other choice is the original travacalm which I assume is this below.

  5. It will be different for each person and a lot of testing what works for you is required. we have tried to a lot of the off the shelf meds but they didn't work for us.

I have know got a prescription from the doc's which works well but I have to take them , one the night before and on in the morning, the retake every 3 hours ( Not the every 4 hours as advised )  as if I wait the 4 hours then I'm over the side making burley.

I have also tried the 1300 sick, and found this to be effective, how ever since my last batch I have been out on the boat :(

I'm normally good in the river or the bay, but once out the heads is my issue.

few other things I have seen or read about is...but I haven't tried yet

some chemist in Adelaide sells a gel that is used by Paul Worstling  ( Ifish )

coke or soft drink before going on the boat as this will calm the gas in the stomach and will make you burp??

  6. Fab,

I know the feeling and its the worst when you have to meet someone, and shake hands.

I haven't tried the botox treatment but I do hear it needs to be a ongoing treatment.

mine was really bad yesterday from the heat and I'm dreading the warmer weather coming up.

I use a roll on and I find it works, but like all treatments it has it's negatives , it give me really bad dry skin and then the skin cracks on my hands and feet.

interested to know about the home made machine?

  7. Hey Nwatson,

We was talking (with Dave) about you yesterday and how well you went fishing in the Georges river..

I was thinking about hitting the Georges tomorrow, but not sure now..

is there crazy people on Jetski's over the weekend in the Georges river?

  9. Hey Fellow Raiders,

I'm thinking I will be sick a day or two in the next couple of weeks from work :)

am not keen on taking out the boat as I m just want to go somewhere nice and quite throw a line or two out land based and relax ( getting over my sickness )

am from the west Sydney area traveling is not a issues for me but not to far..

can you recommend any decent places for me to recover for when I will be sick? not targeting any particular fish on the day just need a break and need to fish.

I normally use bait , but happy to throw a few Sp's , then back to bait when I get frustrated

    Cheers

That is correct, how do you know I am going to go for Surtees/Barcrusher  ?. My Crv rating 1.5T but again I want to know if any one does it in real life. I don't want to go to expensive upgrade from the boat to the car.

    Cheers

depends on the barcrusher/surtees boat you get. I have a 575c and dry weight is about 1300.. as per specs.

add fuel, gear and the reast you maybe looking at about 1500- 1600.

I tow with a ford territory AWD and have no issues.

I don't know the area, what's the clarity and current normally like? If it were down here we love the challenge of finding people's anchors, Unfortunatly I don't have any plans to head up soon.

I do have a contact who may help out, I will check to see what he says ( he would need to head there in your boat though ).

JonD, thank you for the offer i have found someone that is will to help.

Got it.... you learn something everyday!

I hope it works out for you.

Just for my edification... can you upload a picture of what this anchor looks like. I am very curious now!

    Cheers

    Hi Jim,.

From what i can see its not a special anchor the anchor i have lost is a Sarca Anchor. when i rang the marine shop to get a quote they advised me $310.00 for anchor , chain and swivel only,  rope wasn't included as the want to check it out first, and replace if needed. then plus labour as I'm no expert to fitting this so i was going to leave it to the pros.....

i have found a bloke who is going to check for me so fingers crossed its found.

    i will keep you updated.

    Regards

    Hey Mo,

    Is this a special anchor?

...just a little curious why you wouldn't  just buy one. They are only about $40 for the average size boat.

    hello SIr,

To replace this is about $380, if it can not be retrieved then I will have to replace it, but just thought I would ask anyway.

  15. good day all.

i was out today in Botany bay, neat the oil drums, anchored and fishing for about 45 mins , when we decided to move to another spot, i have a electric which , upon retrieval the anchor got stuck in about 14m  of water, i tried to pull up a number of different way, but it didn't release , and in the end i had to cut the rope and lead.

i was wondering if anyone is a diver and can retrieve for me? I'm happy to pay or do you does any one know of some that can do this for me?

    thanks in advance

    Mo
