  1. I have been looking at it thinking the same thing. I stopped on the heathcote road one day but it looked like a mission to be able to get down with all the gear.

I have heard there are bass in there for sure! Might set off early one morning and see where I can get to

  2. Thanks man.

I havn't tried the back of the lake yet. When it starts to warm up I might try the feeder creeks for some ep's. The front of the lake is productive for the flatties but there is also a deep hole off wellington road which pulls up some good flatties and bream.

I find the colder weather might make them more lethargic, but they still need to eat so if you put effort in to move around you can still get good catches. As for the tide, I usually fish fresh water but I have noticed that the last couple of hours of the incoming tide have been productive for me.

    Cheers, Conor

  3. My first report. A quick one from the lakes a few weeks ago 24/6/15.

I arrived at the lake at about 10, 2 hours before the high tide and fished until 2 hours after high tide. There was a fair bit of wind which made it tough fishing in the yak but I managed to get into a few.

    I caught 7 flathead, ranging from 320mm-450mm.

The flathead were caught with 2.5inch grubs in motor oil colour on jigheads of 1/8th oz and 1/12th oz.

I also caught 5 small bream.

The bream were caught on 2.5in grubs in pink and blood worm colour on 1/16th oz jighead. The fish were all undersized bar 1.

When getting from A to B in the lake I trolled my ecogear sx-40 along the drop offs in the hope of a bream but this resulted in 5 small tailor which went pretty hard for the size of them.

All caught using 1-3kg timber wolf, 1000 stradic ci4 spooled with 5lb braid and 4lb black magic fluro leader.

All in all a pretty good session for one of my first sessions in saltwater. I kept 2 flathead for the table and all other fish were returned.

  4. Calamari is Italian for squid, and often all types of squid are referred to as calamari when served as food. However calamari is also a type of squid, with southern and northern species. Also known as southern reef squid and big fin reef squid

  5. Yeah if I noticed any weakening of the leader I would obviously change that, but it's good to know some people use these to good effect. I have ordered some owner p15 silent snaps so will give them a go when they arrive. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

  6. Ok well I will have to give them a go and see how i go. Never thought of using them before and never hear any bass fishos talking about them but when they are being fussy I think they might be beneficial. Although I'm probably just being lazy. Thanks for your input guys

  7. I have never used a clip to attach a lure to my line but when the bite is hard it seems like a quick and easy way to change up my presentation.

Some people say it could effect the action of a lure but they make them with a rounded end so it seems like it would be similar to a loop knot? Im not sure i would use it for anything other than a hard body.

Does anyone use these or have any thought on this subject?

    Thanks guys, Conor

  8. Hi mate, do you think this is because of a lack of rain that the fish havnt made it up that far?

Cheers for the info on the clubs, will have to look into them. Have looked at a few of your reports on previous trips down south, some excellent stuff mate, makes me want to venture further a field for future trips. Looks like a lot of fun!

  9. Launched there today and headed downstrean for a couple of kms, had to cut short because of the rain but managed a couple of bass the biggest only 30cm. Hard fishing and not great conditions but definately has potential. Have caught bass as far as menangle launching from belgenny. Definately finding more success early mornings.

  10. Hey mate.

I've only launched from there once and didn't notice much activity, got a couple of small bass but I don't think the conditions were real good for it. You're not the only one to mention that to me so I will have to go back and give it a good bash. Thanks

  11. Oh ok diesel, I'll just keep putting in the time and hopefully it pays off. I only have a kayak so can only fish small sections of the rivers at a time, and even then the conditions might not be right on the day so that section might fish differently on a different day/time?

Juggs I only use lures for bass, would never have even thought about bait fishing for them. I have been getting some bigger models lately, 38 being my biggest so far, from the upper nepean. Got a few mid 30s in the upper georges, but very tough terrain in the yak with rapids and shallow stretches of water but I am happy with the fish lately and feel like I learn more about bass on every trip.

Are any of you members of any bass/fishing clubs, and if so do you think it would be worth joining for someone like me looking to learn about bass fishing?

    Thanks for your replys

  12. Hey guys. I'm an Irish guy recently moved to Sydney and am wondering if anyone can enlighten me on the movement of Australian bass. So I've been targeting these fish for a few months in the nepean and the georges river pretty extensively, and while I usually catch on every trip they are never of any size...usually mid twentys. I have fished from yarramundi to the nepean gorge past penrith and am just wondering if the bigger models would live in these areas or if I need to fish further upstream. I hear of fish being caught in bents basin and camden and research tells me they keep pushing as far upstream as they can before coming back to spawn. So should I fish different areas depending on the time of year or will big bass live some of the areas mentioned? Someone even mentioned catching them at richmond and windsor, but i thought it would be too salty, so is this just pre/post spawn or would they live in this section all year round? I thought the best thing to do is ask people that actually fish for bass. Any help would be appreciated as I have put in a lot of time and research into catching bigger bass but with no luck. Thanks in advance.
