  1. Hey Raiders

Just checked into a place overlooking pirate cove at Scott's head.

Beach fishing gear just unpacked, anyone fished pirates cove?

I hear rock fishing is great, not really keen to try my first rock fishing experience up here though.

Any idea what can be caught off the long beach running up to Nambucca?

F* me, it's Gods country up here.

  2. Hey Krause

I love the J rack, have a smaller car and it is easy, though have a hurricane santee sport so it's light weight.

Fish Narrabeen lake a bit, catch very little, many more raiders haul in a lot more than me. Rarely in the kayak but keen to try. Pity really considering I am two minutes walk from the lake PM me if you want to have another rookie tag along.

When you see the sun set over the lake and it's a mirror, you quickly forget about fishing! Summer seems a lot better for me fish wise, pretty slow for me this winter.

Sometimes I go yakking and fish, something I go fishing in the yak.

  3. Heading up the coast for a week soon and have rented a place on a beach.

Was just planning and was wondering if you can ping out lures with the 12 ft rod spooled with mono? My lure go to is a 9ft with braid.

Thinking it's no problem as they are the only rods to handle the big lures?

Another thought, have a few 100g lures, too big for salmon?

Hope everyone had some luck this weekend.

  4. Thanks all, found another smaller Alvey this morning. What a reel, sounds fantastic.

My first cast with it probably won't be fantastic

  5. Hi All

Found some old reels when sorting through my late old mans things. Gems like these keep popping up.

Would of course love to fix them up and land a fish with them. Worth saving?8f67ed019d17487996cfdc9dcb02b6ef.jpg892b42ab67d228854c19066d0e636316.jpg

Are they hard to service or do I need to go to a tackle shop?

    Cheers

  6. Credit to everyone. New member and have to say even when I am not fishing love to hear the stories about those that are.

The advice is open and honest and too the point. I have probably saved thousands by going with the advice here.

  7. Hi All

Apologies for what i would think is a simple question,

I use a Catana 902 shore spin off the beach and just inherited a heap of lures, wondering what weight it can handle? I would assume it wouldnt matter as a fish is heavier but thought i would ask.

I have visions on the rod snapping or something similar...... or is it a question of the line breaking strength?

    thanks

  8. Hey Chris

I saw you up north Narrabeen yesterday, I was down the south end. I zeroed and left around 5ish

I should have came up and said hello, maybe my fat ass walking in the wash scared all the fish up your end!!

Congrats, good to see someone had a successful trip yesterday.

  9. Thanks guys, FG held up this arvo but it was tough to find a good gutter so no luck, few fishos up Northern Narrabeen so stayed at south end to not crowd them out.

Thanks Tyrone, any specific type/jig heads?

  10. Thanks guys, have used a double uni previously and might need to go back to it..

bimini and FG looked tough so bailed on the idea, will re-look.

far point re the hooks, new lures but factory jobs, would you suggest switching out?

not quite sure what doubling the braid means billfisher?

  11. Hi Raiders

Literally just got home from a session at Narrabeen and would like some advice.

Using 20lb braid to 20lb leader (all i had at home after leaving work early). albright knot to a metre of leader running metal lures with trebles. is this line/leader combo okay? have been bait fishing mostly lately.

in a 3 hour session, 6-7 hook ups, salmon by the looks of it by the jumps and only landed one. 3 spat the lure and two knot failures (first time with an albright so not surprised).

Question is, are swivels a better option? i like the idea of clip swivels to change out lures easily, and my knots are probably pretty ordinary

Is this rate of spitting the lure normal? i have heard of people swapping out trebles?

Probably my inexperience as well, was hard to keep tension as surf was up a bit and lost tension in the wash, but think i lost them when they jumped?

renewed my faith that people can actually catch fish. :)

    thanks in advance

  12. Hey Raiders

I just got an email from an adventure store that starts with an A and is named after a big ass snake (sorry Mods if this isnt ok) that they have free bait this weekend.

Frozen bait only, up to 1kg, one per customer and need to drop $60 in store (currently 20-40% off all gear).

Not sure if anyone is interested but thought i would let everyone know.

    Safe and productive fishing
