  1. Prawn and fished the same time if that was possible, heading down tonight and give it a crack and see what happens, hope the water clears up abit

Tried that and from experience those wading behind will take out your line unknowingly. But for your info, I have heard some screamers from the rod sitting in the prawning bucket.

I am heading up to the Entrance tomorrow, interested in finding out whether they are also getting whitings on lures. Which lures do you guys recommend? I know someone posted recently catching whiting on blades.

  2. Hi,

My son made a quick floating prawn set up that is really stable. He got a disused boogie board and a tall white plastic bucket with lid.

Cut a round hole in the boogie board and a set of small holes in the bottom of the bucket.

The bucket then pushed through the hole till about 4 to 5 inches are below the board. It then takes in fresh sea water in the bottom of the bucket to keep the prawns alive in. It also adds a bit of weight to the setup keeping it really stable. I thought it may cause drag but it's not an issue even in reasonably running water.

    Nice Koalaboi

Good idea, since the more prawns you catch the more water gets filtered into the bucket from the extra weight and holes and still maintaining buoyancy. Does he carry the battery on the back?

  3. In the early days, I used truck inner tubes which are tuff as with a pvc container the size of a recycling container. Set it up so you gave the battery in the centre with foam supporting it. It worked very well since the inner tubes can be substantially inflated to maintain good stability.

  4. I see. Thanks mate.

I think the kayak would be good then

Blue swimmers are plentiful in Brisbane waters, muddies are slow so unless you have a kayak anchor, you most likely get blue swimmers crabing from the kayak imo. A good spot for blue swimmers is directly opposite the Gosford wharf boat ramp towards the railway bridge.

  5. Can you do this from shore? Do you cast far ?

As a little kid I use to fish in Erina Creek on the jetty just after the punt bridge. It pretty much meat, fish on the end of a heavy weighted line. Very hard to bring up, very very slow process too. I would say it's near impossible to catch a mud crab on a line fishing from shore. Either off the jetty or boat is your best chance.

  6. Hay guys, was also out inside the bay yesterday (Sunday) fighting against the wind just before noon flicking soft plastics. Was initially discouraged after reading this post earlier on Saturday.

Anyway, manage to get a couple including 72cm flathead and an unlucky luderick hooked by a jig.

  7. Nice job on the bream what did u use bait or plastics / blades????

The wreck is hamas parrmatta.. if you go from mooney mooney ramp turn right and go straight up and stay on the right and you will see it its on the edge of the water in the bend

Hi Stephan, I had pilchards and mullet from the fish shop and made myself some garlic, parmesan chicken left in the fridge for a day or so. They were taking the chicken regularly but did not fancy the fish bait as well.

There was a period of quiet spell for about +/- hour on both sides of low tide. The weather was a little overcast too on the day. I anchored just off patonga Brisk Bay at the mouth of the river.

Had the same set up a few days later and they were not interested in the chicken.

  8. Nice work seasponge, I went out yesterday and caught 9 bream from legal to best being 40cm (not one that keep records but think it is a PB). I found the fish very engaging about 1 hour into the run out tide near the mouth of the river.

I am not sure where the wreak that you mention is but where I was also had the trawler cruising close by. Also had my anchor stuck (reef anchor) and managed to pull it off after 10 minutes of trying. If you don't mind, where is this wreck?
