  1. Hi Raiders

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can store a trailered Quintrex 5m runabout on northern beaches?

I have it on the street in manly but the street is becoming very busy and the neighbors are complaining, plus the council is cracking down on boats parked on the street for long periods.

I have obtained quotes for frenchs forest storage but it is quite expensive...

Anyone have a house I could park it at in return for some sort of payment (beer, wine, fish?) lol or any other ideas?

    Cheers

  2. Yeah first time I've seen maritime outside the heads safety checking. We were lucky my flares had nearly expired. They chased after us at 40kmh to stop us for a check!

We were at 12 lost 5 jigs, every boat was losing jigs jackets everywhere...

  3. Hi All,

Not sure if it's the best place to post this but it looks like there's a review on current regulations and changes that will affect us recreational anglers.

    Proposed changes here:

not too happy with the dusky flathead bag limit to 5 but 40cm min legal length is a good idea and maybe a max limit on them too

Should increase the minimum size for bream as well imo

ps. mods please move it to the right place if this isn't the correct place

I think it means they are NOT proposing to increase duskys min length to 40 as it may lead to more people keeping females.

Overall quite good, proposal of a 50cm size reduction for mahi mahi is good for us sydney folk as 99% of the fish on the close fads are under 60cm anyway, it will allow us to legally keep deep hooked fish if they're over 50 instead of throwing them back practically dead

2 bag limit for kings a bit tough, often in winter I can only get out once a month so keeping a few to last for a feed is good. Perhaps 3 might be better

  4. Hi, depends if you have posts, terminals or bolts, but on terminals and posts you should use nylock nuts or at least stat washers and that way, especially with the nylock nuts you need to do up with a spanner and they will not vibrate loose. I hope you do not have wing nuts and if so and the engine has been fitted or serviced by someone then they should of known better. I would say 90% of boats rigged or service elsewhere that come thru here have wing nuts and as I said earlier it is a big mistake to have them, no matter the brand of outboard or what technology it is.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

Thanks for the info Huey. Ive got a F100 yamaha 04 model, it's always had those brass wingnut connectors as far as I remember after buying it second hand. I have always tried to ensure they stay tight and check them regularly. The mechanic has never said anything to me about them. I might go and try find myself some of those nylock nuts you reccomend and switch them over just to be safe. cheers

  5. Hi, wing nuts have been a big no since bad old carby days when they would fry rectifiers. With any modern engine I sure hope you do not have wing nuts that will work themselves loose and will cause a lot of things from damaged ECUs to things like you are seeing and IF it has wing nuts the dealer should be shot and Mercury will most likely not warrant any damaged caused by these.

If you have done the servicing by the book you get a 3 + 2 year warranty from Mercury but the services will need to be done and registered with Mercury.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

What do you reccomend to use instead of wingnuts to connect leads to terminals?

  6. Definitely go the VHF, even for inshore fishing. I had a 27 meg and couldn't even contact marine rescue properly in Sydney Harbour. VHF is so much clearer, and the range is excellent. They're only a tiny bit more expensive too.

And yes, you have to do a radio course to use the VHF

  7. Good haul mate, pays to fish very early for them doesn't it.

Have tried burleying hard many a time at long reef for snapper, however every time ive been there it results in massive schools of large sweep hitting all baits sent out for snapper! There really is no escape for them other than trying SP's. Aren't they a problem for you?

  8. This has been a disaster they've closed us out the ramp for months and now it looks like its going to be worse in terms of waiting times for us!

I thought they were just going to build a 2nd pontoon the same as the original one but on the other side of the lanes, now weve lost a lane as well.

This will be awful in the peak of summer when all the fair weather boaties come out in masses.. Aghhh public servants!

  9. It doesnt help when the maritime construction piling rig can only slam in 2 pylons a day, and thats if the cable chains dont break and have to be re-threaded, boat repositioned, etc, etc, etc. A painfully time consuming event I can tell you after working on the piling rig a year or 2 back in rose bay when they started expanding the wharf out further.

    Dan

Gee 29th June! Taking forever! It's been really inconvenient, they should have started it in Middle of winter around july when not as many people fish!

    Thanks for the updates.

    Cheers

  10. Good news, just got that in my email, after writing them.

"The NPWS project manager has been involved in extensive and protracted negotiations with both Treasury and the contractor to get the project delayed. Even though it comes at considerable inconvenience to the contractor, they have agreed to delay the commencement of the project until the end of the Easter school holidays Consequently, the project will now commence on Monday 23rd April and the ramp will be closed for 6 weeks."

Anyone know if the ramps re-opened yet?
