    Great work Mark!

Trying something new has akways kept my passion for fishing alive. I believe i wrote up a very similar report about a year ago when I was doing the same thing. Absolutely love them now...gotta get into this fly fishing business now and give that a crack ?

The american bass fisho's on youtube are nuts about baitcasters and in turn have some great instructional vids online too.

Thanks for the report mate ?

Nice job mate. I have had my worst winter season fishing of all time, so it's nice to know that at least someone is catching anything.

Out of curiosity, what is considered light gear for kings? I was thinking of using my 20lb outfit for chasing kings, but I'm not 100% it's going to be up to the job.

Not just you mate, my house-mate runs a charter in Terrigal and has had to cancel 9 of his last charters and has had 3 doughnuts when he did go out...the water has only just dropped in temp so maybe some late season love will show up. We have resorted to rock hopping for blackies and grouper on the fly....the grouper have yet to be landed ?

  3. Ive caught big bull sea mullet that swallowed the back end of a sugapen once....went bananas too haha I actually watched the lure work past it before the mullet turned and completely launched itself at it and sure enough tried to eat the thing...I was very surprised

  4. Awesome trip mate, the grass is always greener on the other side!

I would have to agree about the Barra fight, Ive caught up to a metre long barra on 1-3kg bream rods with 8lb line and other than the first run I just had to be careful with their weight.

Question for you though, they don't look like the king threadfin Im used to (forgive my ignorance), what sort of threadies are they?

Oh and the Salmon are on at the Swansea channel, not many around off the beaches this season though ?

  5. Awesome mate, one of the harder species to master on plastics.

That issue you are having with the wind and seeing the bites will come with practise but maybe try an incredibly slow wind with the techniques you are already using if it's blowing at your face, the idea being you are only winding in tiny bits of slack line at a time so you can see bites more easily but not so fast that you affect the action of the lure on the sink. I do this when I keep getting bites but miss the hook ups and it always helps land a few of them ?

Well done can you tell me if your squid spots are the same year round or different in winter?

Ive found the haven in winter has less squid but way bigger,

Summer you could catch over a hundred in there but they would all fit in the palm of your hand.

Summer I use em whole for bait, winter a feed and the heads for bait ?

  7. Well done mate, massively under rated sport fish in my opinion

I generally run a single circle hook off the beach and let them take it for at least 5-10 seconds before a steady pull (not a jerk) and they hook themselves...no need to distinguish the bites then ?

if you don't mind me asking where abouts in the entrance do you get them

    Not at all,

Generally all the way along the boardwalk  (boat hire to the boat ramp sth side of channel)

The bigger ones are usually caught under and around the bridge, small diving crankbaits, zman grubs and small paddle tails are a great arsenal to start with.

Mate not bad for a quick morning session.

I'm yet to get a trev on the plastics so hopefully soon!

    Nicely done!

Come mid june The Entrance is loaded with them. You'd struggle to get the plastic to the bottom without a hit or two ?

    Avoca mate?

Yeah mate, I couldn't hook a fish at Terrigal skillion last week either and there were big macs going nuts. Breaking out the 7" jerk shads in pilchard blue today ?

Oh and I did get a few squire snapper on 20g samaki choona slow jigs for the red heads ?

  11. Funny you mention that they swam past your baits and hit the pilly's,

It's happening off the stones too, big school of longtails and mac tuna came through and missed every livey and lure out there but nailed four dirty pillchards on floats! Then the big bonnies.came through for the same story....Autumn must be a good time for the pillys hay!

Epic catch mate! I've been spinning/jigging from the rocks a bit over the last few month but only got bonnies, frigates, mac tuna, tailor, salmon so far. Still waiting for something bigger to come along.

What kind of retrieve got him? Were you going flat out or lift and drop etc? Trebles or assist hooks?

Always fun sending metals out to the horizon and back 100's of times in a session!

Would have to be "slow-jigged" with that gear, very similar to verticle jigging for reefies etc but slower with more of a pause between lifts. Usually get hit on the drop, got a few snapper using this technique last weekend. Great fun!

Oh and jigs don't work with trebles, gotta be assists or the fluttering action gets thrown out

  13. That's awesome mate!

One of the charter operators from terrigal hooked one with his 4lb bream and gear  (intended for frigate mackeral) there about 3 weeks ago but we all know how that ends ?

Gotta be stoke getting him on your rod too!

  14. Stewy and Donna, thank you for all of your hard work and commitment to the forum.

Finding a forum that was run as passionately as our fishing lives is not something I think any of us will forget.

I'll be sad to see it go but happy that you two are going to take some time for yourselves now. You have truly become pillars in the NSW fishing community and I applaud you both.

All the best guys you deserve it!

Thanks again for all your hard work

  15. You should have stuck around mate, you missed that bloke you were speaking to trying to fight an old fella chasing jews haha tempers are high in this weather!

I was the younger bloke with a black cap on chasing leaddies (with no luck) in the pocket, didn't realise you were a fellow raider! Couldnt believe it when you pulled it out of the water, I fish there at least 3 times a week and never seen one caught there so feel privileged ?
