Thanks All for the good advice
The Garmin 75SV is on the shortlist. Do you know anyone who owns one or seen it used on the water?

Hi Raiders,
Got my new boat and really pleased with the entire package apart from the GPS and Depth sounder requiring an update.
Kicked off the usual online research and have a shortlist of options but the more I look into it the deeper down the rabbit hole I get.
So thought it might be an idea to reach out to the brains trust and get an idea of what has actually worked for you guys in practice.
Any advise or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Considerations
- Budget $1000 - can stretch it a little further if required
- Pref dual unit GPS/Depth sounder (primary focus on depth sounder)
- Main use Bays and Coastal offshore
- Size: Pref 7" +
Cheers

Thanks all
It is an Aluminium boat and comes equipped with an electric anchor so hopefully that solves that issue. Might take u up on the PM Ric cheers
Would like to know more about the water condensation situation, is this issue specific to this model or a general issue with tanks in the floor? And how easy/difficult is it to fit a water separator?
Cheers

Hi Raiders
About to invest in a new (used) boat and wanted to know whether or not any advice could be shared on the savage scorpion SL 500 cuddly cabin 2003
Any general advice on savage cuddly cabins would also be appreciated

One of my favourite fish.
Aggressive, hard fighting ... a lot of fun.
They say when the first fleet arrived they would turn the rivers black they were so numerous... imagine that.
In later years they were so overfished that they became rare north of Eden.
Because the commercial canning, industry collapsed they eventually bounced back.
... another lesson in the problems commercial fishing causes.

Hi All,
I have been in the market for a new fish finder and really fancy the Lowrance elite x5 dsi... I just today won an elite x5 dsi colour finder on online shop for less than expected price and was drilling into some of the specs to try and understand why... and from what i can see this particular unit has Sonar Output Power Max: Peak-to-peak 2,400W / RMS 500 W and Sonar Depth Max: 200 ft \ 61 m. Other more expensive models have a Max Peak-To-Peak 4,000 W / RMS 500 W and Sonar Depth Max 250 ft \ 76 m and above and beyond...
Not sure if this is entirely a bad thing as it is going on a 4.5 mtr run about that does not generally go in waters deeper than 200ft.. but was hoping that i could access knowledge base at hand within the raider team and get some advice.
Cheers

Hi raiders,
Went out last Sat morning for a quick session and managed to land a 70 odd cm Shark. It was in the bay next to the run way and have never in my past 7 or so years fishing the bay came across one of these guys. He smashed a whole pilly and then after a short fight and catch and release I hooked him up again (must have been starved!) this time he had the better of my 10lb leader.
He also made a meal out of a tailor I had just caught and bit right through it.
Anyone know what species of shark it is??
Cheers

Hi All,
I think I may have gained some progress on this situation. I ran the engine yesterday with new muffs and let it run for some time what I noticed is at the initial stages of the water getting sucked through the water temp is vary hot (75 deg) and this is due to the water taking its time (30+ sec) to get through and pump out the other end and the water flow/pressure is not consistent. After a few minutes of proper pressure and flow, the water cools down to a more reasonable temp (50deg). So I’m guessing the problem lies within the pressure of the water pumping through i.e. impeller... Because when i raised the idle (choke) the flow comes through much more easier and stronger and therefore much cooler temps.
I think the muffs themselves may be a problem because no matter how i positioned it, water would leak through the sides of the muffs and when I would hold and press them together water would begin flowing much more consistently.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

i would change impellor and thermo for piece of mind .it should not flush that hot.how long are you flushing engine for?if you have handheld thermometer put under telltale or at prop where water also comes from you should not be over about 60 degrees at idle.let us know how you go.
Im flushing for approx 5mins. i will give the thermometer a go. The water from the telltale and near the prob are much cooler than the water coming from the hose outlet.
Thanks for your responses peoples!!

Hi Raiders,
I have just purchased a new boat with a 40hp Merc on the back (1998). The outboard appears to be in immaculate condition, but what I have noticed after taking it out for the first time on the weekend is that the water that is being flushed out in unusually hot and to the point where you cannot leave your hand under it.
Was wondering if any of you guys have experienced this on your end?
Is this normal?
and if not what are the possible issues?
In past experience my motors always flush cold/luke warm water, and my brother has a 75hp 2006 Merc which also flushes cold...
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Options options options...
The dragonfly reviews are overwhelmingly positive and are fairly priced for what you get. Aiming to get my hands on one at the shops and have a play around
And the Simrad is a new contender that I hadn't even considered.
Ahh First world problems..
Thanks All
