  1. Off JB Mate, to be honest, on the day the sounder/GPS was RS, wo we were using navionics on a phone for our tracking and had no water temp..

that's a great fish, how far south were you and what water temp?

  2. they never left this year, been catching them none stop and haven't really been targeting. Can say this for illawarra to JB anyway. pleanty around from 2-5kg

  3. what lb line you plan to run.

Im in love  with my lox light jigginf outfits, come in PE 1-2 or PE 3, or the heavier gear is 20kg or 33kg but is kinda oldskool heavy. Also been playing with a PE4 V-TRO setup from pioneer that i cannot fault, the VTRO rod is amazing and i know a few charter operators are using it and Ive matched a pioneer altitude 6000 with 300m 40lb braid although only 8kg drag from this reel.

Not everything has to be shimano or daiwa :brucelee: check out some of the gear from other brands, its just as good if not better.

  4. Great Thread Guys, I move to St Georges Basin in 2 weeks and will be keen to chase some for the stove and for bait.

In the past I have simply used a LED Headlight and net, can you tell me if the underwater lights are much better? Also why the large battery's, with all the tech these days surly there is a light weight lite that runs of disposable batteries?

Otherwise, I am liking the idea of towing the bucket with you to save on trips back to the shore to empty the net.

  5. you may get buzzed by the Navy helicopter advising you the range is active, this refers to beecroft, point perp and all the northern headland. Just means you cant land your boat as far as im aware but you can still fish in the area?

Hold your hats if they come towards you!

  6. Agree with the Bobbin knot tool, but they are KNOT cheap... The shout one is around $300. im KNOT sure if there are any cheaper ones around?

EDIT; just googled it, there are some much cheaper ones now! Anyone advise on the quality of these or do any site sponsors sell them?

  7. Generally don't have a problem with the cheap ones.. have a few good ones, but find its a matter of matching the weight and colour on the day, the squid don't know what the brand is or who is pushing what on what TV show... Only we fall for that!

  8. If you want to turn a reel just look for the schools of kings on the surface at Point Perp from 530am til about 9am. If you cant find them use a downrigger or a poor mans downrigger. There are a few legals mixed into and amongst the schools.

    Dan

we didn't get out unti about 2pm.. Swell and the backwash made downrigging a bit messy, Boat is in for a tidy up with the fibreglasser so pick it up in 2 weeks and will have a few days to myself to chase em again..

Boys got kings to 17kg today down there.

  9. Also fished on Saturday, plenty of squid but losing the heads to rats.. also fished on Thursday, but kept losing bait to rubbish fish, within 30 minutes we had lost a live bait tank full of squid for zip... 3 other boats in the area looked to be having the same problem.

  10. Heaps available to you!

    What size boat?

Smaller boats, the shoalhaven river you will catch flatties bream and jews. St geaorges basin is now home to some of the best bream and flatties around.

A bigger boat and you also have access to some great fishing outside the river, from the new artificial reefs to the banks and down to jervis bay.

Best bet is to get in touch when your here and find out whats happening!
