I went out there this evening with my two young boys. Wind was two strong (at 12 knots / hour) and was blowing in so it's really difficult to cast. Then there's carol in the park plus lots of people bombing into the shark protected pool. I was hoping to catch some bait fish there (in the pool) before getting out there. But the number of people swimming and bombing into the pool means there's no hope of catching any baits. It was cold and windy. So we packed our gear and went home after a little while. Hope for another better day.

Anyone know what would be a good calm wind speed to fish this spot?

What a shame the kids did not get to fish. I normally fish there before sunrise. I have only come across a couple of people. I would say any southerly winds over 8 knots will make unpleasant to fish at Balmoral. I hope the kids get to wet a line during the school holidays. I normally take my boy to Bobbin Head, they have all the facilities you need for a 5 year old and the fish and chips shop is not too bad.

  2. Hi there, I am not and expert but 60 lb leader might be too light for a decent king off the stones. How long is your rod? I would have at least the length of the rod as your leader. FG knot is a good knot specially if you have mastered  tying it.  I would also recommend a gaff, if you haven't already planned to take one. I have never fished JB but I have fished a few places further south and also Sydney's northern beaches quite often in the summer months. I have a live bait set up and a Stick-bait/Popper set up. It might be over kill to some but I use 100-140 lb flouro Leader. I normally tie a PR knot as  I have a bobbin and it lasts all day while throwing big lures.  Good luck and I am looking forward to reading your report.

  3. Floyd is a defensive mastermind, the world's most talented boxers can't hit him. McGregor's strategy better be to try and KO Floyd early. Connor will never out-box Floyd. It  Might be entertaining fight but they are just fighting for $$$$$.

  4. hahahaha, Apologies. It was sent to me on Facebook and I didn't bother checking the date all I saw was 30/01. LOL From now on I'll make sure I check and double check before posting.

JD I guess you know then answer to your questions. LOL I didn't go

  5. I have encountered situations like this multiple times. It gets more upsetting every time. I was at blue fish point a few weeks ago, I was the first one on the ledge. at around 6 am two local anglers joined me on the ledge, they had the common courtesy to ask if it was ok  to join in. At about 7 am 6 other fisherman arrived at the ledge. They were all using ISO fishing gear, floating small baits. Myself and the two other fishos were spinning lures. the rest of the story is foreseeable. Yes, they all came to ledge we were fishing and threw their lines in causing a massive tangle. They were really upset telling us that the ledge was not DESIGNED for spinning, and that the tangle was caused by US SPINNING lures. Luckily all my anger management classes worked; I kept my mouth shut and my hands to myself. I had two salmons in my keepers net, I released them. One of the 6 fisherman said to me WHY DIDNT you give your fish to me if you are not going to take them home? By this point I had already counted till 1000, I had to tell the %%%%% to F%^@ off. I then left the ledge to avoid any further incidents.

  6. Hi fishraiders,

The family and I are heading to Narooma  to visit the in-laws on 16th Of December.I was wondering if anyone could share local knowledge of the area. I am hoping to target king fish spinning from the stones. Also where can I get yakkas/squid land based. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Have a merry XMAS and a fantastic New Year.
