  1. Thank goodness its been opened, all those troical fish and usual suspects can get out and do their thing, instead of going stir crazy at the entrance.

Pic from 10.00 am today. Some success fishing too.

Sorry about lack of rotation of pic.

Nice work on the flatties.... 2nd that recommendation to drag them to the nearest beach they are pretty manageable doing this.

You sure you arent seeing longtoms rather than cornetfish? Plenty of them in the lake, they are a serious  hazard if youre in a kayak around sunset...would not want to cop one of those beaks in the leg when they are flying across the surface

Definitely Cornet fish, yesterday a shoal of 25..+ A Purple Flying Gurnard, Banded Wrasse and shoal of Goatfish and all the usual suspects  Most forming similar size fish shoals going stir crazy.

NB Cornets approx 1200 mm long.

It was toward the bottom of the tide, so I managed to wade out to a small bommie & stand on that. I got hammered by white water & ended up with the gaff in my leg at one point! It was a howling sou'easter, so the feathers weren't heavy enough. Ended up using a large popper with ball sinker in front of it on a short trace to get it under the foam. Got them on that. Sometimes you have to improvise!

I recall it ! Good memory for years ago.   Was there a passer by who helped? I do recall white feathers being mentioned at the time :)

Mactier St and Jamieson are VERY close to coming over the top, come on rain!..Yes I get the 'Natural' part;  but as a fishery and breeding ground it could be assisted? :) Have you seen the Luderick, Mullet et al swarming aimlessly around the exit. A mate of mine picked a Luderick up as it was beached whilst trying to get over the incoming  trickle over the sand hump.... and its full of lice atm. :)

Just checked out the 'semi-upper' reaches, 4.30 pm the water is crossing the footpath at the roundabout at the corner of Walker and Mactier St's.

Only time council will open the lake is if there is a risk to adjoining property...... keeping the ICOLL as nature intended and all that.

Loads of jelly prawns were in there before it closed.... wouldn't have run out to sea on the last few new moons. Could be worth a look on the first new moon after it opens up!

  6. Nope I wasnt rubbing it IN.

The thread had shifted to a planned trip to that bridge by two guys, I thought it was encouraging rather than the opposite. But hey I will delete it ..and repost separately.

  7. Plenty of fish in there; they are 'trapped'. Bait fish are getting hammered by predators both from above and below.

I had an 84 'Mama' near the bridge...Pic to follow, will just upload from phone..How did you go on Sat Guys?

2 x jew, 18kg & 21kg spun up at the entrance of Narrabeen lagoon in a flood in 1991.

Was that the time they had to be dragged over the rocks by the pool? White feathery bait?

  9. Nevertheless, plenty caught though, or Try Dee Why? .Earlier I fished with a Guy who had 11 the previous season (saw Pics).

You could try the 'Lake' too. (Although its not technically a lake , but an Estuary :) ) and more come out than reported.

As it is closed  at the moment the fish are locked in and the tailor/herring/mullet/luderick schools must be getting smashed by the predators.

They sure are by the Pelicans and Cormorant gang.

A lot of those lights you might see on the beach are probably Pilchard Tossers. :) and many go home before the 'witching hours'..

NB Council..Please open the entrance for the health of the fishery.

  10. I had have been planning to visit Manly Dam for 20 years, didn't go until yesterday and I only live 15 minutes away...Dooh.

Firstly ;what a beautiful place..could be anywhere, a weekday and very few people; anyway I was targeting carp, fishing on the bottom over a regular  helpings of ground bait.(Burley)

Fishing blind, I had chosen a swim near the furthest car park with a small reed bed adjacent and about 4' of water. Long Story short, I blanked.

Was using two rods, one with 'scrub worm' and the other triple corn kernel.

My Victorian pal (after recovering from the 'visitor' $26 parking toll)  took one Bass of around 25 cm.

I'd be interested in any advice as to best location and what the current carp stock is like, I suspect nearer the dam wall may have been better?

    Cheers Guys.
