  1. G'day, top effort on the little billfish, have you sent an email to Dr Peperell about it? im sure he would love to hear where and when it was caught and also see any photos you might have. he might also be able to let you know for sure what type of billfish it is....as all small billfish have the "sail" dorsal fin.

  2. one of the noosa stores ken, i wont mention names on here for obvious reasons. looks like ill have to make a trip to caloundra fishing world. 16.50 is a bit more reasonable. funny they are so much more expensive on them up in noosa, everything else is pretty well priced and on par with most other stores around

  3. was looking around a tackle store on the sunshine coast yesterday and asked if they had the sx40's ken has been getting all his bream on. they said "yep" and he turned around and grabbed a few of the colours from where they were hung behind the counter (next to the jackals i must add). excellent i thought, i might grab one or two to give them a shot. then i took a look at the price......$23.95 :1yikes: i quickly told the bloke he can put them back behind the counter on their rack.

thats my little gripe....now my question, why the bloody hell does a 2-3cm lure cost over 20 bucks?? its not hand crafted or anything is it?? you pay less for a halco laser pro 190 and its about 10 times the size. are we paying for import fees? name?? reputation??

if this has breached any site rules ken please remove it.

  4. lure was a pakula-hawaiian slimy smokin joe on the long corner. we have only been running this lure for the past 4 or 5 trips, and so far EVERY fish has hit it first. we have had 5 or 6 blue marlin come up and eat it, then if they didnt hook up they grabbed another lure... a few trips ago we had a blue come up and billwhack it, so we grabbed the pitch bait to try to switch bait the fish off the lure, the lure was wound to the transom and the blue followed it all the way before engulfing it right at our feet.

herby- you have been reading well son :1clap: the fish was caught on 37kg chair gear and the fight was only 5-10 mins. he took a screaming run for a few hundred meters then stopped and surfed back down the decent swell with his top sickle out of the water...right to the boat. he gave the leader man a bit of a work out when he tried to dive at the boat. since it was a C&R effort im glad we got him quick before he burnt himself out doing deep cirlces.

over all i am stoked to have beaten my PB by around 50kgs and if i ever beat this fish i will die a very happy man!!

  5. a few have already seen the pics.

i was lucky enough to break my yellowfin PB(was only 15.6kg) on sunday with this awesome looking fish. i couldnt get over how fat it was for the length. we estimated it at 60-70kgs. the fish was tagged and released and swam off strongly.

  6. due to work commitment the only chance i get to fish through the week is late arvo and night...

has any one specifically chased gar fish at night? i was thinking a burley trail behind and a spot light at the back of the boat, then just fish as per normal with a float and small hook? any one got any better ideas that might help out?
