Hi guys, where do u guys buy the red eyes from? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Ebay, just make sure you check the mm as the majority are for squid jigs etc.Or buy a hole punch/circle cutter.

I've been chasing my first marlin for about three years its been a learning curve and I am at the stage that we have the spreed right reading maps and are able to find and raise marlin and get a strike. But i keep dropping the fish soon after the strike.
Can anyone give me some advice I'm thinking that when I get the strike I need to speed the boat up or maybe look at changing the point angle on the hooks.
Any advise appreciated

What type of hook are you using

The red tape I used for eyes in this green Mcgoo looks to have somehow turned silver,if anyone has a theory,it's got me stuffed. Also in regards to brass tubing damaging line,I discovered you can make lead inserts with plastic tubing instead, like in this Streamline..After pouring a insert you just lightly tap the brass tube with a hammer & the brass tubing twists out of the lead...Ps- Vvickid I like that bullet, was the mold taken off a BlkBrt master?.

Not quite sure what you mean by clogging up? My lures come out mostly shiny and polish looking. It's only when I touch them that they seem to get "finger prints" all over them. Do you think I should still sand with such a low grit?
ps. Sorry for all my questions. Really quite a noob here
Start with low grit, then med,end with 1200-2000 &then polish

Nice.. Yeh I've been letting mine sit in the sun. Going to sand them a bit with 1500 and 2000 grit sand paper before polishing
It's more stuffing round but start with 360-600 then 800 & so on to 2000 it comes up great.Using 1200 first will clog etc real quick

Like amkr said it comes off when lathing/polishing.I've tried diggers but prefer the clear casting resin Barnes have,it pours clear so it's easier to keep track of the pigments dye/pearl powder etc.Avoid the equal part resins like Alumilite etc, they go dull with wet&dry paper & take forever to cure.I've been trying out some uv powders & ab shell. These are jy Apollos & Mcgoo chuggers.

Another question, how r u guys making the inserts? Is it from lead ? Or did u cast it from resin?
Both,-heat res rtv silicone(sim to ultra copper you use for engine gaskets) for lead mold.Adding a piece of lead the thickness of a pen etc to the lower 1/2 of insert (like JYee does in Apollo's etc) works great. So does adding uv/lumo pearl powder like this Magoo insert.

No I don't but I'm still far from having it perfected so I may have to.I've ordered a Dremel tool which I've been told will make it a lot easier. All the saws, grinders & drill bits various Hardware,Model shops, engineering stores etc have told me will do the job have failed,so if the dremel doesn't work I'm going to give up on jetted lures to.
I reckon all they seem to do is liven the skirt up & lighten the pull on flat faces a bit,but if the holes are less than 5-6mm they do nothing.
I was hoping to make some slightly lighter keel weighted ones beause the yanks/Hawaiians either make them full of lead or none at all(1stpic) , The jetted plunger in the 2nd pic is keel weighted, nylon holes & doesn't need as much speed as the other jet heads.
-
I only cut the length of the skirt saddles(photo angles misleading),but I've met blokes that cut the whole way down to the nose.I couldn't get tape to hold so a lightly tensioned band etc has been working well so far.Have been having a lot of trial & error with inserts, mainly cutting & smoothing off brass tube for jets etc.

Stevfish-Did you let the resin set in a pressurized container etc (to avoid air bubbles) or in the open.
ps-cheers BradK I'll check Carbatec out

Would anyone know of a place in Sydney or Newcastle that sells lathes/mini lathes.
ps-Cheers for that amkr I'm going to try & get down to Barnes for the mold, resin etc end of this week

Went for a run out from Norah Hd today.Invited a bloke from work Rian who's never gone Kingfish jigging etc before.
The Yakkas at Hargraves reef took a fair effort as usual. We went to Texas first.Their were plenty of 4-8kg Kings taking jigs&livies.
Quite a few other boats started turning up & with the pros floating drift lines we headed up to the Lobster Grds. There we had
3 much larger schools all to ourselves.Besides Kings their were a few decent reds, mowies & some good size perch.
Their were a lot of Barracouta making pests of themselves. The early NW breeze dropped off about 10am,flat as,typical Monday.
One of his better Perch.

Reading that (late winter Blue Syd)has got me all eager again to give a Aug Marlln trip a go at Coffs or even Port Stephens.
Cheers for the report

Fished out of Norah Hd ramp today as Terrigals still closed, late start so I couldn't get livies.Tried a couple of runs past the Bull first as a local spear'o got a 16kg King there early in the week & said their was a large school of them.Only about a 30min run from there to the Lobster Grounds compared to nearly an hour from Terrigal.Their were a few boats at Texas,I got some Kings on jigs;average 75cm,a couple of metre fish were caught(on livies).Headed further Nth to another spot, had the school to myself for 20 min or so until a pro joind me.Got some better Kings 80-85cm & some decent Trag(1on a jig).Done a few bottom drifts for some Mowies. No more Trag, reds or Perch though. Marked several good schools,Reckon I would have cleaned up with livies. Some mates fished the Cones & Perch Grounds on Saturday, they got 3 good reds a few Perch but only 3legal Kings,best2 5&6kg cleaned. Light wind/sea so flew back in but managed to bog my vehicle while retrieving the boat on CTBay beach. Some Fisheries officers there helped me get it out, still pretty embarrassing for a local to do that. Good day though wish I could have every Monday off.

I fished jb today out to 1500 fathoms. Found the massive temp break that's been sitting there all week but the current was raging and couldn't find any bait or fish for that matter.
Big day but no fish makes cleaning the boat quick
Cheers for that,I was um'n & r'n about wether to head down there to fish that break tomorrow.
Probably saved me a wasted trip.

I fished out of Botany yesterday.Started cubing before sunrise along that slight break 6-8nm se of Browns.Followed that same break sth & dropped a big Stripe about 7.30-8.00am.Finished up around 18nm sse of Southern Canyons with only a few Stipie tuna caught.Like most we saw plenty of birds marked a lot of fish at various depts, tried cubing again & another boat hooked up trolling through our trail which pretty much summed up the day.Heard on the radio & back at the ramp a few scored tuna but their were many more 0's,also a couple of big Dollies & another Stripe caught.Wind wasn't to bad for a change.

Always wondered if those blokes that pay $400-$2000 for a lure actually use them.I had a bloke a couple of years ago at Nelson Bay give me $600 dollars for a old scuffed up one after he somehow spotted it while I was unloading a boat.
Thanks for that I saw the Diggers stuff in Bunnings might give it a goe

You can use sheet lead(fold it etc). YoZuri skirts are one of the thinner ones, alot of Yozuri's don't fold well around the skirt saddle creating a lump & their to short for their width for a lot of lures.Yamashitas are thinner.
