    Hi ace,

Do you know what was the length of the largest one. Maybe this year there will be more bigger ones around. They have been a bit lacking over the last couple of years.

Hey mate didn't measure but will assume smallest in that batch would have been 1.3 1.4 biggest would have been 1.6 1.7

  3. Hi all,

Have fished Hawkesbury the last few weeks and it has produced some decent sized hairies. By what I see they will be more productive this year in the system just need to know spots and tide times and lots and lots of Burley :) . I can also say that you will get alot of soapie jewies and bonito ( be prepared for a decent fight ).

Yeah it was a stunning day and water like glass up until the usual midday winds picked up.

Very quiet, Fished the FAD and the peak nothing coming up, trolled from peak and around the outside of the bommies near botany bay but nothing on the bite, Continued to fish the bay up till 1:30 - 2 PM bay produced some nice flatties, trev's and some flounder.

there were boys up and browns and canyons and bommies, boys at canyons and browns seemed to be hooking up Marlin going off on CH 82, Another mate of mine that was out that day fished a placed call the tanks outside and it produced a good bag.

    Hey Raiders,

Been out for a while due to exams but managed a few sneaky jewie sessions in between. All of them were super rewarding!

Got out to our spot in Cowan creek with a bit of time to catch bait, a lot of the time ended up catching big mullet or tailor which were used as slab baits. A bit before dark the insane jewfish runs start, caught several a couple of legal jews and several in the 60s. Have been teaching a mate to fish all winter, so for him to finally be rewarded by his first legal jewie was awesome. Also tried plastics and squid. Plastics had no success, caught occasional 60cm jews on the squid. None came close to the success of big slabs.

To celebrate finishing exams, we headed down to a mates holiday house in Jervis Bay for a spot of fishing. Plan was to fish beaches, all day and see if we picked up bait for the bigger stuff at night. We caught plenty of dart on beach worms and pilly fillets which we put out at night in hopes of some shark. Got 3 takes the first night and didn't hook one. Feeling pretty defeated, we tried the same thing the next day. The strong offshore wind made casting a nightmare and coated the beach in blue bottles. But our persistance paid off with three sharks landed by the end of the night.

Sorry for skimming over everything, cramming a few trips into one, hopefully plenty more to come this summer!

Hey Guys just a quick fishing report,

Got home after work around 1am noticing that it was very windy. We made the decision and decided to go out on a quick 3 hour flick. Docked at Oatley Wharf at about 230 and were at Como 15 minutes later. When we got there it indeed was choppy and very windy. But this didnt stand in our way. 1 hour had passed and still only very few hits. We moved further up the shore towards a sandy drop off as noticed on our Sonar. We placed the Motor Guide on anchor lock and threw in a few casts. On about five casts each in, we both hooked up to two small 25cm flatties. Not much but still, better than nothing. We continued around the flats until i hooked up to something decent. A 55cm flattie that took a hella good run. After around 7 fish in we ended the day with a solid 34cm Bream making it around 8 fish. We returned home at around 6.15 making it a perfect day.

    Thanks.

    -Will

Was out botany bay and boy did it change around 12PM, had small pinkies on the bite nothing special seen few blokes earlier in the morning went dropping the boat in clean up at the artificial reef.

  7. Hi everyone,

This is Chantelle from Western Sydney University/DPI Fisheries. I am carrying out research on hairtail.

Lately the commercial fishers are having a hard time landing hairtail. I hear the Rec fishers are still landing. I would love to hear from you if you have any anecdotes or information.

Also, for a comprehensive study I need samples every month. If possible please keep andy hairtail you catch and get in contact with me. I would be greatly appreciated if I could pick them up from you to help complete my study.

    My email is 17501864@student.westernsydney.edu.au

    Thanks!

    Hi Chantelle,

I am more than happy to talk to you about hair tail I have been chasing them over winter and have caught a few.

    Cheers Ace

  8. Well guys you wouldn't believe it But for a guy that swore he'd never fish soft plastics "I'M A CONVERT" (just don't tell Stewie) . Took the kids & wife out on Friday for a fish in Botany . Pulled up to our spot & everyone had their rod out with their pick of the bait from pilly tails to prawns & we sent out a steady stream of burley . An hour had past & not even a nibble on any of the 5 rods ! Kids & i were getting bored so i grabbed Anthony's tackle bag that had all the soft plastics in it & picked a jig head & plastic & tied it onto a spare rod & made my way to the front of the boat & started casting away trying to remember if anything sunk in from Gianni at the Plastics Social Event . Anthony found it amusing to see me finally stick to it for more than 10 cast, and just as i was think this was a waste of time I felt a bump on the line, I quickly lifted the rod & felt the hook set onto something & after a quick tussle & the wife netted my first Flatty on plastics . I WAS OVER THE MOON !!! It came in at 38cm & I was HOOKED !attachicon.gifthumbnail_IMAG0191.jpg

A few more cast later & i was on again but this was barely legal so my youngest daughter Sienna released it to go "Find Daddy" as she put it ...LOL... It went quite after that so i changed over to another colour & started casting towards where i had the other lines out at the back of the boat that STILL had no action... By the third cast just after the first flick as i was waiting for the line to go slack the line took off & the drag screamed off the little 2500 Stradic , I was only fishing 6lb & I knew that this was a better fish . It actually took quite a few decent runs & as i brought it to the surface i could see a decent flatty thrashing it's head side to side trying to dislodge the hook which was set in it's top lip Anthony reached for the net & we had it onto the boat with Cheers & smiles all round . After a quick photo we had it onto the good old lie detector & it came in at exactly 57cm . What a TOP day it turned out to be ... We had enough for fish Tacos that night so we called it a day....attachicon.gifthumbnail_IMAG0192.jpgattachicon.gifthumbnail_IMAG0195.jpg

    Mate,

I was the same, Did not fish plastics now I am an addict LOL. great work keep it up and keep trying :)

  9. Hi Guys,

Went up to the entrance over the weekend from Friday till Monday and fished the lake for 2 days, Lake is producing some decent size whiting and Bream. I fished the other side of the bridge of a small Warf that is opposite the pylons on the bridge at run in tide on a sat night and run out on a sunday. Lake produced some decent whiting and bream, Whiting biggest measuring 38cm and smallest 31 and Bream biggest 35 and smallest 29 CM, Fresh prawns caught that night from the lake where used to catch and also throwing around some small soft plastics which hooked up some tailor and all thrown back in. Prawning session should be at peak start of November and can truly say a lot of stonker Whiting, Bream and Tailor about.

  10. Hi Raiders,

My wife and I headed out for our first trip of the warmer weather in the bay this morning and after a slightly mixed up start had a good day. We usually put in at Oatley bay but I hadn't been keeping an eye on the refurbishment progress and it was still closed when we got there, so we headed over to the ramp on the south side of Tom Uglys. Not a launch I usually use, but was impressed with the ramp and parking, but the jetty??? Too high, no cleats, so if Oatley is due a refurb, this one is well past needing one!

We picked up a couple of nice Duskys on the drift at Towra, a couple of Calamari and a Flounder off the runways and a nice Trevally at Molineaux Pt. Always fun watching the resident seals sun themselves there. All in all a lovely day on the bay and great conditions. Nothing wanted the smaller of my squid sent down as a livie, so both came home to be human food instead.

    Hi Mate,

I was out Sunday and did not catch anything worth keeping, Anchored at all the hot spots and drifted along the middle but nothing, Fished the FADS and colors outside but still not luck, Good to see you have caught a nice mixed bay

    Cheers

  11. Hi guys, was going to keep this a secret but I owe to much too FR, on Wednesday 11am launch tinny from AT. Went to potonga etc in search of some feed, well we caught one flattie and a travelly and it's 4pm omg lost all hope.

Decided to stop by WB on our way back, we were the only ones there, anywazzz both of us bottom bashing with no result till 5:30pm friend gets a bite bang a WTF hairtail I thought the season was over, told my friend his got lucky that's all.

Next think you know I was on to one as well WTF???!?!?!??

Well after that changed to hairtail rig...... NON STOP only dropped 2 to 3 metres and sometime right on the surface WTF WTF.. Had 2 blocks of pillies all gone and their still there WTF some are so fat it's not funny, well anywazzz

My friend caught the biggest one and when he boated the fish BANG his toe gets bitten really deep blood running out non stop oh well.

At the end we only ended up with 18 hairy lost like 2 block of pillies ffs.

After coming back home decided to go again on Thursday with my old man,

6pm to 9pm constant bites then slowed down chucked one 7metres and there were on the bottom, ended up with 7, couldn't fish because old mans a newbie need to bait chuck teach him everything. How do you post photos on here ffs.

I know friend is reading this buddy this might be last run for the hairys let everyone have s go.

Pretty sure no one know because for those two days my boat was the only one

Hairtail are a very weird fish, Jesus top session though, I thought the season was over for them :fishing1:

  12. Had a chance to get out in search of a quick feed this afternoon. Flathead was on my mind for dinner, and given the conditions, my only problem was going to be missing the tide and a lack of wind and drift. It was worth the risk, top conditions and the current gave me the drift I wanted. I had my feed in a few hours and a bonus to finish on.

That would be a nice eating red, Great catch

  13. Hi Guys,

First post on this forum, Went out to fish Botany Bay yesterday, Beautiful morning with wind very minimal and the sun shining. Started off fishing the first run way to see if it will produce any decent table fish but unfortunately it did not, Further then fished the barrels, Kurnell but only produced some small travelly. Finally fished run way 1 again which then produced 2 30cm snapper and a 28cm bream, As the weather changed approaching the afternoon we decided to pack-up and head home. Although the nice day but the wind coming strong later on the bay has been very quiet as the kingies seem to have disappeared for the season ( Sorry did not take any pics guys )

    Cheers

    Ace
