What style of metal lures are you using?

I would try something like a Mr Twisty that has a strong action at a lower speed!

Some halco twisty ,halco rooster and a few others I have in my box

  2. Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone casts metal lures off the beach at night?

I have the opportunity to fish a big tide on almost full moon tonight on the south coast but have never cast lures at night and I'm wondering how affective it is.

  3. Hi there,

Has anyone done the walk from mainbar rd down costens point firetrail for landbased fishing?

I'm wondering how rocky and is there alot of oysters on the shore there.

The advice I have had on this forum is really helpful

    Thanks

  4. I cast metal from the beach with a 9'6 savage gear rod 10-15kg line rating in calm to average conditions,if its rough and or windy i use a 12ft silstar Diamanto 7-10kg line rating,i generally use 20pnd mono on both.,the savage gear 9;6  i use 20-30gram lures and the 12ft rod i use 30-50gram lures,i have found a good medium action is fine and both are graphite rods.

the silstar rod is discontinued now but its been a great rod its taken a beating,im not sure why more stores dont carry higher end silstar rods.

I love fishing braid but I'm not a fan off the beach.

Braid tends to get wind knots & overlaps.

    Each to their own.

Today I learned exactly what you mean, spooled new jbraid and a handful of casts and wind knots, twice I had to remove and cut some line fortunatly not alot.

Casting a halco 30g twisty with 9"6ft savage gear rods.

I suspect the line is coming of the spool faster than the guides on the rod so bunches together to create knots .

Is there anyway to avoid this?

If I cast with a rod with bigger diameter guides would this help.

    Any assistance is appreciated 👍

Fin noir lethal 40 reel has 270yards/ 30lb braid capacity from their website. If you want to save -  get 150yards of suggested 20lb braid and fill the rest of the spool with mono backing line.

thanks for your advice Savit, thats a good idea

  7. Hi there,

I have a 9'6ft savage gear rod and a fin nor lethal 40 i use for casting metal lures of the beach(i am new to lure fishing)

i want to buy some quality braided line for it and was wondering about the amount of line it says on the spool.

    example 8lb/270yds....12lbs/200yds...

does this refer to mono or braid or both?

i want to buy 20lb of good quality braid

i suspect i need to buy 300yds of braid because you can cast a fair distance surf casting and 150yds just may not be enough

any brand recomendations is welcome also

yes i am new to braided line.

    thanks in advance

East Coast Lows (ECL) are intense low pressure systems which occur, on average, several times each year off the eastern coast of Australia, in particular southern Queensland, NSW and eastern Victoria. ... East coast lows are also observed off the coast of Africa and America and are sometimes known as east coast cyclones

Ahh I see what you mean, thanks for the advice

  9. Hi there,

I'm new to casting chrome lures of the beach but enjoying it alot,I'm wondering if the south coast salmon would be on at high tide with 3.5m swell, ?

Im keen to get into it this afternoon at 3pm with proper wet weather gear

    Any assistance is appreciated

  10. Hi there,

Im planning to travel to gold coast later this year by air and was wondering what is the best way to transport some fining rods on aircraft.

what i thought was buy PVC tube with end caps or buy a travel fishing rod tube from a fishing store about 2m in length.

i am interested in other peoples experience with this and any advice is appreciated.

    thanks.

  11. I use the Willy weather App,I find the wind strength and direction are really important.a strong crossword or directly at you can really make surf fishing difficult.

Also the swell, you want some swell but not too much.

I check weather for the location I'm intend to fish right up to the time I head off then check the beach for best fishing location, sometimes things can change very quickly so I often have a plan B location.

  12. Hi there,

in a few weeks I will be heading to Sussex Inlet for some fishing,I will be staying on the jervis bay side opposite the town of Sussex, I was wondering how fast the current runs in the main channel there on the run in run out tide?

i haven’t fished the inlet before so I’m curious for info or tips.

     Thanks in advance

hey there everyone, Im a guy who will go to the servo and buy a pack of frozen prawns to fish with, sometimes i use them all, other times i freeze the rest for next trip. Now im thinking, is fresh best when it comes to bait or the older and smellier the better? I have used prawns all my life but was thinking is it worth swapping to pilchard cubes or squid, this is all from the servo. Or should i pick up the cheapest prawns i can find from coles/woolies and use them.

Im basically looking to get more fish since its quite common to go out and not have a bite or get baby bream, toadies or yakkas. I mention pilchard but everytime i use them when i cast out (using a long rod from shore) they fall off the hook. So this made me think servo squid but it looks horrible, even for a fish.

Any recommendation guys? Im using a running sinker, 50cm to a swivel for bream, trevally, whiting or flathead. Depending on the day ill use circle hooks but sometimes long shanks keep prawns on better.

I did exactly that a few years ago,my results were poor.

now I often use salted Pilchards on 3 ganged hoods(great for flathead and tailor)

i also get chicken thighs and remove the soft part and cut the remaining into bait size and add some garlic salt and freeze it,I have since caught my best bream on this bait and it’s very cheap.

another cheap option buy some mullet at the local fish shop, fillet them and salt it with sea salt, put in fridge for a few days then remove the water the salt has drawn out and freeze the fillet.

there is some good cheap options that will catch fish, just some preparation will get better results.

  17. Hi there

Im planning to buy a good quality surf rod and the penn prevail rods look good but can’t find a retailer so I can take a look so will have to order online,

does anyone here use this gear and what’s your opinion of it.

    thanks in advance

Do you have the leader connected to the braid with a leader knot and the sinker running on the flurocarbon or is the sinkre on the braid and then braid to a swivel and then to leader? Best to have a rod length of leader, connected with a leader knot for the sinker to run on, then swivel, then trace to the hook. If the sinker is on the braid or even catching on the leader knot so it becomes the pivot point between the braid and leader it will twist. As mentioned you can limit the height the sinker can slide up the line with  a second swivel or even a rubber band tied to the line

I use braid then sinker then leader to hook, yes I tie the braid to swivel,I will try your method next time your help is appreciated

    thanks
