Depends on what spin reel you want to upgrade. Some are good enough left alone and some it can be worth it.

I also did my old model Saltiga but they need it badly. If you have something like a new model 2500 Certate I would leave it as it is.

I've got Shimano Stradics FJ not sure what washers they have but I'm assuming there the felt ones and I'm guessing carbontex are better.

Im after smoothness really and but not so much increased drag

  2. Just after people’s options on upgrading your spin reels drag washers to carbontex.

Has anyone done theirs? was it worth and is it better to cut your own or buy pre cut carbontex washers?

  3. Hi guys.. yes the fish turned up in good numbers & we released one approximately 80kg after 1.5 hrs. Cheers to the boys that radioed us letting me know they were hooked up. Hope you got them both.

Marquis got 3 fish next to us but other boats around us did troll all day & hook nothing.

Didn't hear of any fish over 90kg & they seemed to range from 50-90kg.

Heard yellowfin being caught inside us near browns & a few bluefin off Shellharbour so looks like more to come. Weather forecast isnt great up if you want to book a charter let me know.

    Cheers

Went out in a mates boat today Reel Screamer, managed a 70kg bluefin, 3 albies and 2 gemmies. Great day on the water a huge thanks to Dave off sideshow for giving the marks to everyone on the radio. Cheers Mike

    Nice work boys!

I couldn't make it out today ( today of all days) but my usaual boat had one hooked up for around 30 mins then dropped it.

Just wondering what kind of spread you guys are running? Hard bodies or skirts or a combo?

We're new to the game fishing scene so any tips you also have on running your spread and fighting fin once hooked up would be great

    Cheers

    Dom

  4. After people's opinion who have a bit of boat knowledge. I have a 2009 Brooker Fisherman and currently upgrading my fishfinder. The old transducer cable passed through the transom in 1cm hole and was sealed and covered by clam shell cover. The new transducer cable (lowrance) needs a 25mm and I wasn't sure if enlarging the old hole will weaken the transom too much or just blank off the old hole and pass the cable over the transom.

  5. Hi just wondering if anyone has compared these two models of fish finders. To be used on my Tinnie estuary fishing targeting bait schools and larger fish ie; kings, Jews, snapper insore. Current price for the Elite 5x HDI $399 bcf and the 5x HDS ebay $540 or at the shops $680.

What would be the best product value for money and for my use?

  6. Hi boaties

Just wondering if anyone out there has a 2009 Mercury 30 hp electric start or similar motor. If you are able to look at the neutral micro switch length. The movable tang on the end is about 5mm on mine just want to compare to see if mine is snapped or worn as when the motor is in neutral the stricker plate just touches but not enough to let the motor start electrically. See picture of switch, couldn't take a pic of the switch end tang

Also after a short run today after a few months came back and flushed motor then notice slightly milky oil coming from under gearbox on leg from a water drain hole. What seal is letting this oil out I'm assuming maybe from gearbox. See picture

Also motor has done around 15hrs since last service but it has been a year.

  7. Hi been awhile since I posted but I had to tell this story.

Headed out solo on the George's River on Wednesday 15/05 for a flick for some Jewies. Started from Revesby Beach boat ramp and flicked my usual holes along the way. Fishing was quiet slow and I wasn't seeing much bait around as I headed my way down river.

This all changed when I got to Como and I got a hit and boy was it a hit, the fish at this stage unknown species went for a few short runs and gave a few strong head shakes. Shortly after I got to see some colour although it was the size of Jewie it was brown, I then realised that I was hooked up on a monster of a Flatty. By this stage a few people had stopped to watch as they got close one called sting ray and I called back a monster Flatty. It then had its final few runs from the surface thrashing its massive tail headed back down. I got her back to the surface and carefully tried to net her, only he head was in, and got it into the boat. Wow this was a big fish. She went 92cm on the brag mat and boy was she thick, didn't think of turning on the scales on the lip grips but the batteries were probably dead. I got the boys who stopped to take a few pics and back in she went. I swam her for a while and realised her and watched her swim down into the depths.

I would like to submit this fish in catch of the month

N.B Moderators - the hat I am wearing is actual a very dark blue, I can send a pic in better light if needed
