  1. Hi guys, been a while since i have posted so bear with me.

i went to balmoral yesterday with a small rod for yakkas, ti see if there were there. 16 yellowtails later, i was regretting not brining my big surf rod. If im Live baiting with yakkas on the bottom, where should i cast if im on the wharf? I could also go down to the beach but i dont really know. Also any other places within walking distance to the wharf is fine. Thanks guys.

  2. Hi guys,

I was looking for a reliable method to catch bream landbased in the estuary. Any rigs, baits or methods will be gratefully taken as I am failing to regularly catch bream without the help of eels taking my bait. Thanks

  3. Headed down to coal and candle for tailor. Left the house at 3:30 for an evening fish but was stuck on roseville bridge finding there was a major crash so that set me back until 4. Bummer. I arrived at roughly 4:20 pm and set up, casting for yakkas as fresh baits on floats. Nothing. Darn. By then I had chucked out my berly bucket stuffed full of squid guts and bonito frame/head. I set a small line directly under it just in case baited with squid. The sun set and I had a lot of squid in the esky for backup. A few small nibbles but no "downs" on my float. It was soooo quiet so I decided to head home. I pulled in the berly bucket as I was clearing up noticing that it was pushed right next to the breakwall. I ripped it up but the setline was tangled in with it. Oh bother. Then as I attempted to pull it in and take care of it later. And it's snagged. Perfect (!). Oh wait. Its coming in. Its PULLING!!! Its an eel!!! Mixed feelings!!!! Hooray!!! I unhook it with pliers then hold it up using pliers for a pic. It does this squirming motion and pushes its tail to the pliers, trying to push it off. It constricts my hand and wipes eel slime all over it. Thanks man (!). I drop eveything and my mate takes the picture while its on the floor. It starts flopping and a nearby kid starts crying so I "gently" push it into the water with my foot. It swims gracefully away and I stand breathless. Not quite though I'm panting. Fun times.

  4. Hey guys,

I was wondering which of the northern beaches would be best for surf casting in terms of bream, flathead, whiting and salmon/tailor and also where to fish for them. Which would be the best bet in terms of bait fishing between pilchards, squid and yellowtail. On top of that which would you consider the quietest beach in terms of popularity along narrabeen, whale, dee why, avalon, palm etc. Thanks

  5. Hey guys, just wondering how to catch tailor in the estuary with a float as thats where I have seen they like to hang out. I do have access to live and fresh caught yakkas caught on location plus frozen salted pillies. Is it better to use gangs or circles/suicides? The tailor like to rip up the yellowtail but I'm but looking for a second opinion.

    Thanks fellas

  6. Eh well. Just saying. You're probably right rick but I am just pointing out. I used 20lb mono and 10lb braid. 15 wraps for knots. Maybe I stuffed it up. Ah well. I still reccommend FG to be safe, but your choice. Good luck on your kingies mate.

  7. Hey Phil,

I can't help as much as rick or short but one important thing to say, as well as gearing up well in terms of tackle, the double uni knot is considerably weaker and slightly larger than an FG or sebile knot. Better to use one of those than a double uni. Even a 50cm+ flatty broke me off a couple weeks ago when I had a double uni so I know from experience.

    Happy to (hopefully) help.Cheers

  8. I have 20 lb braid, thats bad right? And when you say reefs, where do you mean? Can someone pm me about a good location for crabs? I heard avalon rocks is good. Dont really wanna drive there though. Groper will probably be where the crabs are. Preferably not tall rocks and a safer place but whatcha gonna do eh? Thanksfor all the info guys. Appreciate it.

    Cheers
