hey raiders
i haven't been out fishing since the end of jan this year and its driving me crazy. I can hopefully get out in the kayak this sunday but wondering whether to fish middle harbour (launch from tunks park) or cowan creek (launch from apple tree bay). I have had most of my success in middle harbour in the past but wondering if cowan would be a better op. Mainly going after your standard species like flathead, bream etc... on soft plastics. Also are the kings still around middle harbour??
Cheers raiders
Mac
mate middle harbour has been good lately good bream, flathead alot of tailor. still some kings around but they are harder to find. squid is also going off over some of the shallower weed beds.
-
can anyone help me with fishing weedbeds. what sort of lure or sp should I be using and what style of retrieve should I use.

Thanks mate, do you think whole pilchids with no weight would work
yeah, that would work, maybe even using small hard bodies could work. just trying out near the boats with the pilchards or at the little drop off thing that's like a semi-circle. or near the marina around the structure in the morning could be good

G,day all im looking for some good fishing spots in middle harbour im targetting mainly kingfish and tailor. Im using whole pilchids
mate, I've seen plenty of kingfish at Clontarf but chucking a heavy sinker out with bait at the spit is good for kings.

Try the north shore under the spit bridge but go a bit east past the wall hour before and after dawn the best can get Aussie salmon , king, tailor, blackfish and bream but its a well known spot. There is a newish pontoon off gurny cres in seaforth also worth a go as is pickering point itsself. Doubroyd head eastern most see a lot of blackfishermen there, Baths near 40 baskets for flatehead ( try a sp inside the baths as well as out). Drop off at clontarf also produces. These are all well known spots. I have caught flathead between clontarf and castle rock that area also produces blackfish but the whole water way is very busy.
mate, should I be using sp or bait for these areas?

mate, i know you want west of the bridge but there are some good spots around Balmoral and with squid jigs, you can go to Sagrado and fish the weed banks and structure around there for squid which is west of the spit

Yes on both counts. The flatties especially like the border of weed and sand, and they'll hit the surface lures too. Anything more than ankle deep should be fair game.
thanks mate

Bassday Sugapen
Daiwa Double Clutch
Berkeley Prawn Dog
Good for Flathead, Whiting, Bream, can pick up other predators such as Trevally.
On YouTube, Sand Flat Fishing has heaps of videos on the exact type of fishing you're describing.
mate with the surface lures for bream especially should I target weed beds and structure and the with flathead target sand flats and drop-offs.

definitely look at the spit/balmoral/clifton gardens wharfs. at those places sinking an unweighted pilly cube can reward you with bream and trevally.
so just look for structure and fish them

Burley up heaps and throw out corn or bread on a small hook without a float or any weight. Just let it look as natural as possible.
They always come in under the ducks when they are being feed. Can use the same technique with bread off the dam wall to catch small Bass as well.
I was told you could use freshwater lures like spinners in the dam to get bass. I'm not sure never fished there but live local so happy to give it a try.

Hey guys
I'm relatively new to squidding nd I don't know how to use this 8 gram jig I got. it sinks real slow. am I meant to use the jig only? or use a rig with a sinker. I'm going land based from Clifton gardens wharf.
mate, I don't do much my self but I go and find a bit of structure or weed bottoms and use the 8-gram jig that's what I use mostly and it works. sometimes i just cast of a jetty and get them my best so far is about 42cm long

be a start .There are many lures which are good for topwater fishing for Whiting - Bream & even Flathead try a You Tube search .

This time of the yr is worth a go with some top water lures over sand flats .5 mtr to 1mtr deep. Lures of 50mm to 70 mm in clear colours
poppers or walkers.
Bob
