  1. Hi guys and girls.

Gezz i can go further back than that , the very first rod i ever owned was a jw little jim it was about 5ft and solid glass , wooden butt and some hose clamp type set up for the winch.

The second was my very first blackfish rod , a 2 piece number called a Scarbrough also solid glass, and im pleased to say it still resides in my parents garage and gets the odd workout when the family decsend on Yamba , compared to what i use these days it was one heavy mother of a rod .

I have a butterworth blackfish rod in the garage as well that must be 30 years old and still as good as the day it was bought, though it never gets used

  2. Hi Roberta

Probably a bit late for the Blackfish at Yamba at this time of year , July to early August around there , i will be up at Yamba at the end of the month chasing the big lizards up in the lake and around the wall on softies trying to beat the pb [94] .

Unusual that you didnt get any blacfish at Nambucca though that place crawls with them according to the relations that live there .

    better luck next time .

    cheers Mark

  3. HI

Well roscoe you know how it is some days a diamonds , looking fwd to seeing you down there again next week , not sure where yet will chat to the old fox about that on Sunday night .

Roosterman to tell the truth i dont eat fish at all but by all accounts from the people i give them to they seem to be just as good as everywhere else , just ask Ross hes eaten enough of them from that part of the Georges latley.

  4. Hi all

went down on wednesday with Ross Swordy and the guru Norm and we thought we would really get stuck into them , but those blackfish can be stubbon buggars at times and refused to play , then the wind got nasty , and a move was called for , a short drive and we hit lambeth park but even there the wind was howling , so i called it a day , but Ross and Stewy plugged on , for no result i believe .

Thursday at around 11,00 i wandered down to Lambeth again with NORM , what a difference 24 hours makes they were in the mood, not big fish by the normal standard but all as fat as mud and thick across the shoulders ,when i left Norm and had managed about 15 or 16 in a litte over 3 hours and put twice that many back that were just on the 27 limit or under , a nice little session, sorry the pics wont attach right havent quite got the hang of that yet

heres the whole lot from thursday

  5. hi peter

One other littlr thing , when e seem to gert them over in the georges , it always seems to be when weve a low about lunchtime [11.00 to 1.00] although we do get fish at the other times they do become a lot more active between those times , If you have seen some of the posts Ross and i have put up you will see what i mean , those fish were all taken in that window , and that happens this week , will post some pics if we get a few

  6. hi guys

The same on the georges this week , but we found that a few days before a full moon they are pretty good , the day of the full moon they just go of the bite , but come back gangbusters 4-5 days later , now whether this is because of the larger tides or the influence of the moon ,who knows , but if as we have had the last week those real big tides of a , night im betting that the fish get right up into the places they dont normally get to on the smaller tides and feed right up .

I fish with a couple of old guys who really know thier stuff and that seems to be the general idea between them , and after a few years of their wisdom i sure aint going to argue against them

But look on the bright side , the tides a bloody perfect from Monday onwards and over here on the Georges they should be on big time , even swordy might get a few

    cheers

  7. Hi,

I've just started fishing for Blackfish. I am interested in the place you fished in the Georges River. I would be grateful if you could tell me where in the Georges River you caught all of those Blackfish so that I can try my luck?

    Thanks

    Glenn

  8. hi guys

Suppose we had better ansere a few questions , 1/ na the Georges is not polluted although she is carrying a bit of colour at the present, there is still a lot of sediment washing around from those minor floods back in JUNE , 2/ as for what tide we get them on , well that varies from place to place , the spot we fished this week was basiclly a run out spot but we got a lot of the better fish on the first 30 mins of the kick back , i would also say that a few days on the river with ross and yesterday with swordy were a a hoot ,Ross with the the yarns about fishing and old friends and well swordys just swordy i reckon , but i have question for MRS SWORDY did he ever take those bloody boots of ? he was threatening to sleep in them they felt that good .

    catch ya

dam 6lb leader is a bit light on for flatties!

yes i know , but the water up here is crystal at the present and anything any heavier just dosent produce results , makes for some interesting fishing , i have to leave in the morning so for the 6 days managed 48 lizards 4 bream [they sem to have gone straight up the river to the broadwater and beyond ] all the flatties came from the lake just above the oyster channell bridge and were either under 30 or over 55 the 2 biggest went 80 plus im trying to download the pics , all in all not to bad for this time of year

  10. HI guys

managed a few days of from work and chance to see the the retired parents up here at Yamba . The fishing has been a bit slow quantity wise but the quality is as usual vintage , Two real nice fish that i got 1 yesterday and 1 today both in the 80cm bracket both on a boodworm wriggler on procaster 701 and sahara 1500 , 4lb fins braid and and 6lb vanish trace made for an interseting fight

  11. Hi Guys

Was down the Georges today with my mate norm at one of the places we usaually haunt at this time of year , chasing the blackfish which is about all we do at this time of year and between us we got about 16 all taken on weed sourced from spot -------- , we were getting harrassed by a mile of fish in the 20 to 24 varitey but we sytill managed a few up to 30 with one exception , now ive seen some odd things that have had ago at eating a blackie but whatever had a go at this one must have been hungry and judging by the healing process this only happened in the last few weeks, by the way the fish still went 1.2 kg not a bad fish for the river .

oops not quite the hang of this yet

Hi. Just had a go black fishing at the Entrance and loved it. Does anyone have any good land based spots that I could try in the Brisbane Waters on the Central Coast for Blackfish?

    Thanks

    Glenn

    gday

Around the road and rail bridges have always been a favourite , there used to be a an old jetty to the left of the rail station we got heaps of years ago , its been a while since ive fished there but cant see why they would not still be there

  13. Fished Saturday avo on a running in tide at Balmain. I have been trying for the blackies in the harbour for the last few weeks, finally got a bit success today, had 3 hook ups, but the other 2 was just too big to land on 6lb line. However, the bite wasn’t very hot, I suppose blackies are schooling fish, and I have seen ppl catching a bag limit of blackies easily. So here is my question, how to turn a one catch into a bag limit? I have been burlying consistently using cabbage weed.

Here is a photo of the blackie that I landed. Also caught two squids on the day.

I’ve also caught this one on cabbage weed, the head looks like a luderick, but its much narrower, and certainly dunt have the strips on the body. Anyone suggests a ID for this fish?

Try fishing the run out at the Dawn Fraser pool, and use the burley sparingly , to much can turn them off a bit and attract some rubbish , and when possible the freshest weed you can lay your hands on . Keep going on them they can be a frustrating bugger to catch but once you sus them they are great on light gear .

  14. :1prop:

Hey all, just wondering how to keep green weed fresh? I found myself a little spot today and i took a bit home and was wondering how i can preserve it for future outings?

    THanks in advance..

    DAN

    hi dan

i generally give mine a good wash in clean saltwater and let it drain for a while and then layer it in some newspaper or a hession bag , and keep it in a cool place . if your not using it all at once give it a rinse in some frsh salt water every couple of days and depending on the quality it should keep for a week to ten days .
