All those lures will catch fish..... personally I fish rock walls by casting along them  and trying to land my lure 1 to 2 metres from the edge and working it along the wall this works really well for bream on hardbodies

    Hey mate

What hard body would be the best a atomic shad 50, or a fathead crank 38,

    thankss

  2. G'day Raiders

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great day. I live in Chiswick,Sydney so I am central, I love to fish at rose bay but that is a bit to far for my dad to take me. I was wondering if breakfast point along the rocks is a good spot for bream, snapper, flathead and the usual. Can you guys tell me how deep the water is and what I should use their (bait or lure). I was thinking of using soft plastics and casting them along the rock wall, these are all of my soft plastics:

ZMan Grubs 2.5 motor oil and bloodworm

Gulp Shrimp 2' Banana Prawn, Pepper Prawn

    Gulp Minnow Watermelon Pearl 3inch

    Squidgy Wriggler 100mm

    Squidgy Prawn Wriggler 95mm

    S Factor

Can you tell me if they will be good for bream along the rock wall and if hard bodies will be good there or is it to deep???? I also just got a tt switchblade 1/8  and a few others like chubby and atomic cranks, will that be good along the rock Wall or will plastics with scent be better??? ( can you tell me specifically what to use in the hardbody category or SP??)

    cheers

  3. Hey mate

nice catch, I am not new to fishing but I'm new to lures and thats what I'm learning to use, you can fish hen and chickens bay for flathead or you can go to Drummoyne wharf, thatsnot to bad, got a 33cm and a 40cm bream there.

I live in chiswick which is very close, is breakfast point good, do you fish of the rocks or of the point??

Around sunrise and sunset are the perfect times to be fishing, so from 8-9pm is a good time to be out. Later on in the night you might not have much luck with bream and flathead, but that is when the jewfish are roaming. I don't have much experience night fishing, so you might be better off getting someone else to give you a more definitive answer to that one though.

Rose Bay beach at low tide is a good place to use the chubby, as it is a nice sand flat with plenty of bream and flathead. In sydney I find I have more luck with plastics and blades for whatever reason, and tend to do better with hard bodies like the chubby down south.

Thanks for all the help, the first time I tried my hard body lures I went to rose bay and caught 4 tailor and 1 flattie on a prawn.

just came back I got 1 bite with the grub but no fish but my bro caught a 35 cm bream but we chucked it back

I'm still happy because I've went fishing once now with SP.

    thanks for everything

Blades should work in any depth of water, they sink very easily. Above 10-15m it might struggle a bit with the current, but in low current areas I've had no trouble fishing 1/8th blades in 15 metres. They are an awesome lure for both bream and flatties, I'm a big fan of them in the 1/8th size especially. I recommend doing a twitch pause retrieve. Wait for it to hit bottom, wind in the slack and then just do 2 short quick lifts of the rod top in quick succession. Twitch it just enough to feel the vibration, pause just for a fraction of a second then give it another twitch before it hits bottom. Let it sink and wait a few seconds before repeating. This is my favourite retrieve with blades, works for both flathead and bream. I like to use lure scent with blades, as they don't look ultra realistic when they sit on the bottom, but when scented bream are more likely to take them when still. My favourite is sax scent.

Sounds like you've done some research with your lures. The 2.5 inch grubs with be great for bream, and the 100mm will be great for flathead. Both 2 of my favourite plastics.

The Jackall chubbies are more suited for sandflats and mangroves, but they can also be used along vertical structure such as wharf pylons and bridge pylons. Instead of casting out, cast across the jetty as close to the pylons as you can, and do a steady slow retrieve.

thanks a lot man, that was very helpful indeed, Do you know if I can catch at night time with my vibe and soft plastic at 8-10pm and if you don't mind where are some spots in Sydney where I can use a chubby

what size is the switchblade? will need to  know this before we can advise on the depth you can fish it and its suitability for bream

    richard

    Hey mate,

it is a 1/8 for around 3 meter water?? and if it is too shallow will it be good for 6 meter??

  7. Hello,

I am new to fishing with hard body lures, I have only went once as I got my new lures and I caught 4 tailor. I got this red and black tt switchblade and I was wondering how deep I can use it, can it goes 5 meters deep??? and is it good for bream???

I also bought some man grubs 2.5 inch and a squidgy wriggler 100mm silver fox because they didn't have bloodworm, can you give me some techniques on how to use the switchblade and if I can use it a wharf like Balmain wharf???

and can I use a jackal chubby at a wharf where it is 2 meters deep

    thanks

It seems like there are quite a few new people looking to get into soft plastics in Sydney. I was in the same boat about a year ago and found one thing: don't overthink it too much.

Don't get caught up too much in lures and colours etc. The most important thing to do is keep moving if you aren't getting any bites. Really. Keep moving until you find the fish. As you learn more about fish behaviour from being on the water you will find that you have to move less and that you can key in on them pretty quickly.

For example, you pick a day you are going to go fishing. First thing, check the tides. Is the tide rising? then aim for some flats or creeks that will fill up as the tide moves in. Is the tide falling? Aim for the spots where the creeks and flats drain out

For landbased, I also check the wind. Is it a southerly or nor-easter? I generally prefer to have the wind at my back for ease of casting. However, sometimes the wind can push food for shrimp and baitfish up against the shore line so sometimes casting into the wind can be more productive.

Tecchnique will go further than lure colour. Having all the lures won't make much difference if they aren't presented well. Get a couple colours between 2" and 3" and just try working them in different ways and getting a feel for fishing fast and fishin slow.

Scent is also a big one I find. I have been in situations where I'm not getting any nibbles, put scent on then land a flatty next cast. In my opinion it works.

There really are no bad spots in Sydney but some places will be harder than others to get the good sized trophy fish.

I have a few videos of some spots around Sydney on my youtube. You can see the places I've caught fish in lately and I would definitely recommend them. So long as you are doing the miles, you will get the smiles.

Thanks for all your help, this spot in your video is worth a shot, Do you know where I can get cheap lures online ?. Unlucky st the start when you lost the fish.

I am staying in Corlette, but happy to drive around to any decent recommendations.
    thanks in advance.

  10. Hello,

My name is Atilla and I live in Drummonyne right in the middle of Sydney, I was wondering if maybe you raiders can help me with some questions:

1: Are Zman grubs good and what color is best other than motor oil

2: Where are some good spots in Sydney ( if it is a secret don’t worry )

3: Can you tell me a bit about your self

    thanks,

  11. Hey mate, I’m not familiar with Swansea but if you want to target kingfish use a live yaqqa or live squid around structure with strong line, I use. 30pound flurocarbon trase and 16 pound braid

    Good luck,
