But in my opinion head west mate, unless ya just killin time with a chance of a fish. Tuff lake i say.

  2. Hey lowrider, those jewels your talking about are pritty easy to take out. Best way is to use a hacksaw blade and long nose pliers. Take the jewies gills out and youll see a thick bone section were the spine starts at the head (brain section). Here is a pic where they are located. The jewels are there as a counterbalance when the fish is moving. Usually found in specimens over 10 kg. I took two out of my jewie that was 20 kg. I also did my own taxidermy on the head and mounted it with an engravement hahaha. The jewels polish up nice for calcified bone. Anyways heres the pic!

  3. Welcome to Fish Raider.

When you get there theres a big tackle shop that will give good advise.

We smashed a stack off kings off sth solitary island last year but that wont help if your land based. I have heard some nice mangrove jacks are living around the boat harbour and breakwalls. We even seen a green sea turtle swiming around the main jetty. Very fishy and clean, your sure to find some good fish.

  6. This was found up at Grassey by my three yo while on a holiday with his grand parents.

I was not there and see it, but was told its beaks (relativly same length) were very hard.

Found washed up on the beach with a lot of blue bottles, probably how it died.

I could probably find it my self, but i love how the Fish Raider think tank works.

  7. Hi all,

Just a quick one, talk about tied hey. My latest and LAST a baby girl Grace was born ay 3:31am this morning.

She already has the nic name seriola as thats what i was on a trip away catchin when we learnt we were expecting. Oh well she already has somthing in common with her big sister cobes. Together with the two older boys its been a good session and time to wipe off the bait knife and do what needs to be done "ouch". Mum n bubs doin real well which means i'll be back out on the water soon "sweet" i'll be easy to spot up to my waist in the water tring to ease the pain.

  8. OH WOW!

How lucky are you fella's. I would love to do that, but three kids, one due any day, self employed, and like other chronilogically enhanced members "those bloody knees". I can still get in and out of Marley beach and do a lap of TCD in waders without much grief, but like all of us "i wish readers" feel like a liability. Shame that.

    Thanks for the report hey?

  9. Hey Prawn Star,

Now i know where i seen that before, thanks for the report now i dont have too. We were out there with you in 2 boats. The seafearer viking 5.5 (spooled) was spooled again and i was on the quintrex c/console skippered by sea rabbit and treble99 on board too. Our report was about the same, one leagal king aboard spooled and rats only on sea rabbit how ever treble99 hooked a lil redfish on the jig which was ambushed by a big arrow squid. If we see you around again we'll say g'day.

Nice result that, i was thinkin about taking my crappy lil tinny out there sunday but opted to drive 240km there n back to T.C.D walk however many km a full lap of the dam is and chuck every lure in my box at massive cruzing trout that im sure were laughing at me as they slid back to tell there mates hey check out this idiot.

Yeah thanks for that report, you have confimed i made a poor choice. :1badmood:

  11. Well the results have been anouced and i got 3rd, 1st place was only 1.5cm bigger bloody close. I would have rather been blown away. Congrats to pete01 and all other Fish Raiders who got a placeing.

  12. This has got to be my proudest report ever. We Got to Parsely bay in the early hours and meet up with Sea Rabbit who was coming back in from an all nighter, gave him a hand to retrive and had a look at his catch. there in the chilly bin a nice jewie of 78cm, Jim says gee dad hope we get one like that. Oh dont think we'll get that lucky i reply. Then it was see ya mate and we headed to Gunya to start our sp sesh. A slow start with only one missed hit on my killer tomato Squidgy shad and not a one for Jim on a pogy, a bit of weed there after the rain too so we headed over to the flats between Woby and Juno.

    PICT1998.jpg

Back into the mission and a few casts in Jims 1ooo shimano is holwling and he is conected to somthing huge, he would have fought this thing for 15minuites before had said had couldn't handle any more and i took over. This thing was BIG and would seem to stop now and agian like a ray (do they eat sp's), eventualy the hook pulled (witch made me think not a ray). After that i changed to a gulp 6" shad in salt n pepper and results were immedeate with 6 flattys in the next few hours for 1 keeper while lil mate remained fishless and was starting to get quite whingey. The NE wind had sprung up so tried baits at woby for three eels. Had a look around the bay on the other side of the river only to had the depth sounder play up. So bugger this over to Dangar island where i had a spot in mind where i didnt need the sounder (what do ya know it starts workin any way). One last shot as the tide turns, jim still had his 1/4 ounce jig head so i cut him a squid strip and he lost a couple of baits, i cut a strip like we do for jew and like all good reports,,,,,zzzzzZZZzzzzzZZZzzzzZZZZZZZ I passed it to Jim and thought wooh what have i just handed him. Well he kept his cool and with a bit of lift n wind and don't high stick he putup a good 10 minuite fight only to see the leader knot disapper again and again, with ripped arms the fish had a big lunge where i saw silver and Jim near lost his footing. so he handed over to me so close only three long lifts and out from under the boat it slid. With a bit of a shuffle of the net to squeze most of it in, then dumped his 87cm first jew on his lap. Well high fives hugs n wooo hoo! 87CM 5KG ON 3KG BRAID AND 12LB LEADER UNBELIVEABLE!!! AND ONLY JUST TURNED 8

    PICT2002.jpg

One happy FISHERMAN (he can definatly call him self that now). After that nice bream that looked so small

    PICT2007.jpgPICT2006.jpg

And we called it a very very good day, back at the ramp he made sure everybody saw it and do ya blame him.

  14. Hey Bustoff,

I was out there bout 3 weeks ago and the water was below the end of the ramp. They have put some chucky gravel down, seems to work ok for most but not so good for us with a 16ft c consle n a v6 magna (yeah front wheel drive). Got 1 yella before the dreaded southerly hit, only follows n half hearted hits after that, still well worth the effort i say.
