Great catch mate. Well done on releasing the big girl too. Can I ask what is Yakima? I don't do a lot of saltwater fishing these days...used to use strips of mullet for Flatties. Cheers, bn

Stupid auto correct!! Yes, it's a yakka.

Teach me to read before I post next time. 😝😝

  2. I was fortunate to have a day charter with Ross quite a few years ago, and like everyone here,

I am saddened by the news of his passing. He was a passionate fisherman and a walking encyclopedia

    of all things fishing.

    R.I.P. Ross Hunter.

    Fair winds and following seas.

Go on Navionics/Google maps look for areas in the river where there are sharp bends, turns, points. Generally speaking due to the natural flow of water there will be a hole adjacent to where the water flows and is diverted in two directions gouged out by the natural flow of the water. If you focus your efforts around these areas around a tide change these would be your best bets. Not to sure how many are accessible from the shore in the Hawkes though.

    Thanks tyrone07,

Will give this a crack and post any results either way.

This would work in most any system, so will try this in other areas as well.

    Cheers.?

  4. Fished with a local charter last October while we were in Darwin.

Got some great "bucket list" fish in the process!

    Spaniard about 5kg

Coral Trout about 3kg (fantastic on the tooth)!

These, as well as a few fingermark, Venus tusk fish, large mouth Nannygai

were taken by all on board.

Have to say, the crew were terrific, and put everyone onto fish.

Skipper stayed on the Mackerel grounds till we all got at least one each.

If ever you are up there, take the time to go out on a charter, I don't think

you will be disappointed. PM me for details.

Fished there with no hassle, normally a few people fishing. It's just the very point area which you can fish. There is heavy restrictions around there as it was the location of factories for agent orange and other similar chemicals.

anything in this area would have to be catch and release.

With the amount of chemicals that ended up in the water, you would glow in the dark if you ate the fish!??

  6. Hi guys,

Does Gladesville fish with any consistency (for Jewies, mainly) at this time of year?

Suggestions on best baits to use and how heavy, or fish under a large bobby float?

    I am using 10ft drummer rod (about 10-15kg rating) 20lb mono and 40lb X 1.5m leader

to a 5/0 two hook rig.

    Appreciate your input.?

    Hello Mudcrab

There are plenty of top blokes on this site who will help you land your first jew. Unfortunately im not one of them as i dont really fish for them.

What i will say is... in order to help you the guys will need more information from you.. jewfishing (or any other) is not just about location.

What bait are you using? Are u land based or on a boat. What hook size and tackle u using? How do you present your bait?

Fishing can be complex. And fishing for jews is by far the hardest.

Using fresh squid, yakka's (fillets), live mullet (when I can catch them).

    10ft heavy beach rod (10 - 15kg) Snelled 5/0 or 6/0  two hook rig on 40 - 60lb leader.

    Land based.
