Andy. Did the parcel arrive yet ? Haven't heard from you since I sent it and getting a bit worried that it may have gone astray.

    Frank

Hey Frank, yes it arrived safely, thank you so much for the goodies, most kind of you ! Although I'm not actually sure what one of them is ! - the grey rectangular thing ? (sorry for not getting back to you, I've been flat out with work and the tinny)

Anyways, I'll take some pics tomorrow, you'll be able to see the rod holders installed, and the motor is on and has decals, and the trailer is all cold Gal., electrics pretty much done, just been tidying/redoing bits here and there.

Got some seats off ebay, need to decide where they are going, plus still haven't decided on the area between middle bench seat and front bench seat, leave it open for feet/legs of passengers, deck it, put fuel containers in there to a. increase range, b. keep some weight forwards especially when I'm going solo.

  2. Thanks fellas.

Picked up a motor, 03 Merc 40 3 cylinder with elec. Start and elec. Trim/tilt. For $1500. Old guy retired outboard mechanic. Full service including carby strip and clean, new impeller etc.

Trailer getting welded on Saturday , what is recommended to paint it - cold gal? Do I need to treat any rust first? Recommends?

  3. And I picked up a Quintrex trailer for 200 bucks. Needs a couple of cross members welding back in and all the rollers but my mate has a fab business so I'm getting the steel and welding done for 2 cartons of piss. Rego'd until July 2019.

What the best rust preventative treatment to do once it's fixed ?

  4. Well, the project is coming along, the interior flooring and storage is almost complete, the electrics to follow.

Still not sure whether to paint the outside or restore the ali.

I'll add the pics in groups as I took them for FB

First set of pics - initial framing for false floors, Connect-it from Bunnings, 12mm structural ply sealed with 2 coats of paving sealant, marine carpet from Bunnings $39 per/m, glued to ply with Dunlop astro turf adhesive.

Carpet stapled on rear sides using my air driven staple gun - everyone needs one of these ! I've gone through 3000 staples amazingly ! I would have had an RSI if I'd had to do that manually.1556497583_tinny1.thumb.jpg.b45a953523adb852bd48cbc30d93a6c7.jpg835379419_tinny2.thumb.jpg.5bd2b12a584abbd3f30e835be436dc10.jpg1567455739_tinny3.thumb.jpg.90e1d7b078c92177e89661fa34a851be.jpg1402099296_tinny4.thumb.jpg.99872a047175f2fbab6015e9f62a8e75.jpg2076886639_tinny5.thumb.jpg.2074fbd52fd6bd7331d559851d067108.jpg1935035405_tinny6.thumb.jpg.1198f165f7ba3b518914b494e6b86462.jpg

  5. Thanks Frank. I see. So it would have had a steering wheel up front there then too?

Would you recommend reinstating that piece and wheel or go with tiller steer? Presumably weight distribution would be better if I'm up front and motor at the back? Or tiller steer and underfloor fuel tank in the bow?

It does have a code stamped on the side, its A961.

  6. Thanks fellas ! Will keep my eyes peeled for a 30 or 40 and I'll add progress as it happens.

Deffo thinking of maximising storage so may keep the frame up front. Would a underfloor fuel tank up front be a good way to keep the nose down? (Especially as I'll probably be solo a lot of the time)

  7. Hey, I'm Andy, I'm originally from the UK but have lived in Cairns since 07

I've had a couple of boats (V nose punt and a Bertram Caribbean that I turned into a CC - lots of fibreglassing, new transom, floors etc.) but have now bought a 4.4m tinny for 400 bucks, including dodgy trailer that needs a bit of welding.

Does anyone recognise the hull manufacturer and what size motor do I need - thinking a 40 or 50 hp 2 stroke tiller steer ? Looking to use it off shore, maybe as far as the inner GBR / islands ie calm waters mainly, for fishing obvs.

I'm assuming the frame added at the front was for a forward steering wheel ? I plan to remove that, add a carpeted floor with perhaps some storage, have paint stripped the hull outside, painted the inside white, was going to leave the outside bare but it's a bit ugly so might paint it too, probably only the top half.

Also, what's the go with the bent front deck? I'm presuming to stop waves/spray going into the boat. Should I flatten it, maybe fix some kind of curved angle instead ? Planning on adding an anchor well in the top area.

I'll try and add some pics

Any advice welcome ! Links to other similar projects, ideas, things I should add (rod holder locations, under floor fuel tank?) ,  etc.

    Andy
