Thanks guys. Super helpful. Agree that I should be read up and prepared!
My question was stemmed from bays with no pink buoys.. and it doesn’t have no anchoring sign on the map.. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/usingwaterways/maps/boating-maps/9d-port-jackson.pdf
Presumably this means I can simply drop anchor?

Hi there
I'm new to boating.. Can you anchor anywhere in Sydney/NSW?
Where can't you anchor?
Any help would be much appreciated! Done a bit of googling but it just told me you can't anchor anywhere for more than 28 days..
Happy Aussie Day!

Try Five Dock Bay Drummoyne, as its free and is three lanes, in a bay so you dont have to worry about wash from ferries or river current.Or, if you dont mind paying for parking, the one at Bayview Park, end of Burwood Rd, again in a bay area and now river or current to worry about.
they are the more common I use, mostly Five Dock bay 99% of the time. But Ive also gone to Davidson Park Rozelle (access to middle harbour), Parsely Tree Boat Ramp, Hawkesbury - Brooklyn .
Awesome - Five Dock Bay sounds perfect.

Cheers, but I do know how to Google search.
Looking for Woy Woy equivalents that are closer, with sandy banks or otherwise that may be easier for newbies.

Hey there!
I am a newbie boatie. If weather is good this Sunday, I'm hoping to take the boat out! We're a bit nervous though, with the whole boat ramp situation.
Where's the best boat ramp for beginners near me? I'm based in Blacktown, NSW. I read that Woy Woy was a good one for Central Coast-ers. Any more closer by?
Can you anchor anywhere?

Just a few hours. I'll go with the map then. Pretty clear now, thanks everyone.
