Welcome aboard Snappa, my 1st suggestion to newbies is to use the search tab & have a look for existing info on any subject, including theis one.

Infact if you throw Jervis bay fishing into google amongst the results you will more thatn likely from the FR site.

Reading some of these other threads can give you more great information that you may not have been looking for!

It can be a bit finicky so choose the word you use carefully

    Good luck-

I guess it depends on what your "blue water" fishing involves, drifting for Flathead, Snapper fishing, Tuna/Marlin?

All of the above mate! We need to buy gear for marlin but that is what we are aiming towards. I believe there's good spots for king fish out that way.

    Welcome to the site SnappaDax.

The two good ramps on the southern side of the bay are Woolamia and Murrays Beach.

Both are suitable for largish trailer boats, with the main difference between the two being the distance of the run to the heads.

Keep in mind if you choose to launch at Murrays, that an entry fee into the National Park applies and there is are no fish cleaning facilities.

I'm not sure of the actual distance, but I do believe the distance from Jervis Bay to the shelf is one of the shortest trips along the NSW coast.

If you're planning on running that far offshore, there are also good ramps at Greenwell Point and Crookhaven Heads. Just a little north of the bay.

Perfect thanks mate. We will be doing plenty of exploring and sussing out the area to find the best spot. Appreciate the info!

    Hi guys,

Just seeing if anyone would recommend towing a boat from Bowral down Moss vale road to Greenwell Point / Jervis Bay Area? I’ve got a 6m centre console pioneer towed behind a V6 amerok.

    Thanks 👍

    Hi mate,

We are based in Mittagong and about to buy a 6m alloy Cat.

How did you go down the pass with your boat? We would look at launching from Jervis Bay somewhere

    Cheers

  6. Hi all, what an excellent site this is!

My mate is about to buy an early model 6m Cat equipped with all the goods to do some blue water fishing.

We are new to this type of fishing and need some tips and advice and Fishraider is the place to be, so much info in here!

Look forward to adding content and getting involved.

    Happy fishing all 🐟🐠🐡🦈

  7. Hi Raiders, new to site and first post.

My mate is buying a rig equipped for blue water fishing and we are looking at fishing out of JB.

Just wanted to get some info on how good it is out there and best ramp to launch. I read the shelf is 17km out, is this correct?

Any other advice would be great.

    Cheers

It was a DJI Phantom, not top of the range but still a decent one.

Yes it was a simple deploy setup where you just hang the line on the hook and you fly the drone out and once you arrive at location, you just rotate the drone and fly in reverse so the loop just slides off. I saw other setups like that so I thought I'd try it. Like I said, any sudden stop while you are deploying will be enough to pull the drone into a spiral, can't save it after that.

I learnt the hard way but I won't do it again, I'll just stick to normal casting 🙂

I think a release gate that is spring loaded would work.

Made from plastic and attached at bottom of drone, maybe super glued?

When the tension on the line is greater than the spring, it opens the gate and drops the line/bait.

That way if you get a jag in spool it will just let go. When you want to drop the bait, put drone in sport mode and lower it fast then up fast and gate opens.

I can see a bit of trial and error in getting the spring rate right but you could do this on an oval.

Just a thought, and i can picture the device in my head. Could probably make money from it🤔
