  1. all the above would probably be your last resort possibilities to avoid having to take everything apart.

    check the simple things first.

it sounds to me that it could just be your high concentration of oil to fuel mix causing one of your plugs to clog up, why not both i'm not sure. could be one of other guys' ideas above as to why...

another option could be that as a result of trauling, ie. low revs on the motor, then if it's a 2 stroke that could be your cause as two strokes run best when reving fairly high. so if you were trauling for a while then a bit of oil could have not burnt and staying on the plug.

30:1 is fairly rich seeing as the recommended ratio is 50:1 so i'd say give the plug a clen in white spirits, chech the obvious things, whack the plugs back in and try a leaner fuel mix. unless of course you think continuing to run it is not a healthy option for your engine.

    goodluck champ.

  2. yep it's a 15hp your right.

ok '82-'83. the seller only said that it was and 80's model, but now i know.

can i ask what site you used to find out?

    thanks huey,

    tom.

  3. the serial number is "684CS 017056".

i can already see that the motor must have been made on the 6th month of '84, but i'm more interested in all of the other numbers. they tell you where it was made etc.

there is a picture that tells you all the different combinations you could have on the mariner ID label and what each different one means.

    cheers.

  4. hi guys,

i recently saw a picture that told me everything that i could know from my outboards ID number but i didn't take to much notice of it. now i want to know and i have been searchiing all over the net for it but can't find it :mad3:. i can't remember if it was on fishraider or any other forums or if i came up on google... the outboard is a mariner with the first 3 numbers "684". i'm guessing that would mean it was manufactured on the 6th month of 1984 but i want to know what all of the other numbers mean.

if anybody knows of a site i can go to that will tell me everything i can know from the outboards ID number then send away.

    thanks fellas,

    tom.

  5. hi all,

i was doing some first time maintainence on the outboard gearbox yesterday and everything was going smooth untill i struck one bolt head. it's the bolt that holds the bevelled gear dropping down into the gearbox onto the shaft connecting to the engine itself. i have tried a few things and can't get it undone. i need to undo it so i can get to a ball bearing that won't come out with this gear in the way.

so i was wondering if anyone with experience with these things would happen to know how to undo it...i tried going to a few marine shops but there were no mechanics or anyone that could offer assistence on the topic. i tried holding the shaft still in the vice while trying to undo the bolt but i would budge. is there a special tool needed for the job or a technique that needs to be mastered?

    any help much appretiated,

    tom.

  6. hi guys,

i recently got an 80's model 15hp mariner outboard and i have gone to do some work on it and discovered i would be better off if i had a work shop manual for it so that i know what i am taking apart...

any of you guys have one that would suit my outboard that they will sell/handover to me, or photocopy for me? any place i can get one from and for around what price?

    Cheers fellas,

    Tom.

  7. hi all,

i have seen in many pictures that you can connect your garden hose to your outboard when flushing your motor or just when running it to save you filling up a big tub of water.

do any of you know where i can get the connector needed to plug it in to my 15 hp mariner, and if so how much for?

    cheers,

    Tom.

  8. Chuck it. Go see craig at Huett Marine @Cowan. He is a Mariner dealer and also sells aftermarket props as well.

Details can be found in the sponsers section.

yeah i would have thought it wouldn't be worth fixing it...

  9. Oh I see pro fisher, in the case of registering the boat only I would slip down to the nearest Maritime office. You can pick out a boat name to include in your rego, pick up the new registered boat number stickers and the maximum number of persons sticker and ask them for the fish mainimum sizes and bag limits stickers for your boat for both salt and freshwater fish while your down there as well. You will need a receipt of purchase or they will give you a stat deck form to have signed by an approved person witnessing your signature which says you now own the boat. You will have to have the HIN number confirmed as being legitimate and that's about it.

Good luck with it, it's all pretty easy going now with this. No need to take the boat they only need proof of purchase and appropriate ID, and it should be straight forward and no worries at the Maritime !

    Cheers

oh ok, sweet. it all sounds pretty relaxed, thank god!

    cheers mate,

    tom.

  10. Hi pro fisher seeing your tinnie is boat coaded, IE it already has a HIN number (Hull Identification Number), it can be easily registered with the Maritime and given a NSW boat number sticker and a sticker that shows the maximum number of passengers permitted which you calculate yourself from a chart on the sticker . The fact that the boat is registered allows you to insure it and the insurance against theft, damage etc also covers you in claims of personal liabilty, and damage to property from accident, fire etc .

The boat, trailer, motor and the boat's assessories can be insured together at an agreed price and this should be done for you own protection.

Having comprehensive insurance is the only way to cover yourself against public liability, third party injury claims and damage to property etc.

The trailer, is classed as a vehicle and must be registered as a separate entity with the RTA, however you can now register your boat as well at the RTA, though I'm not sure if the RTA is fully set up or only does boat registration renewals.

If the trailer number plate has already been handed in, the RTA will issue a new plate. If the trailer has never been registered, it will also need a blue slip issued by an RTA accredited workshop, and perhaps will have to be weighed at a weighbridge off the boat and unhitched from the tow vehicle.

This has to be done with all interstate trailers registered or otherwise as the NSW RTA will not accept any interstate registration details.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

thanks mate, so i will look into seeing if RTA will register it, it not then NSW will be the go.

will i need to take it in or can i just renew it? (it has not been registered since 2004).

and i dont need to worry about the trailer, thats registered...

    cheers.

  11. Hi Mate as far as I know a boat that size does not need to be registered unless you put an outboard that goes over 5 horse power or 10 knots

    Cheers

yeah, this is a 25 horse outboard...

  12. hey guys,

i may be buying a boat that is not registered and i will need to register.

i was wondering what i need to do, and how much it is to register it.

the boat is a 12ft tinny and it is boat coded if makes any difference.

    thanks,

    tom.

  13. nice catch mate,

thats exactly what i'm hoping for this summer.

i went out with a mate kingy hunting a couple weekends ago and at about 6am, just about everyone on the 6 boats around us all hooked up. similar to what happened to you at one stage. around what time did your big sweep come through? i'm guessing it was around 6am because of the sun just coming up?

    cheers,

    tom.

  14. Mate I was using strips of frozen cuttle on the weekend and I was hooking up kings while fishing next to guys who were using fresh squid.

So I guess thats proof they are great bait then

agreed, they were going off with the frozen strips of cuttle.

    tom
