I was in the same position as you re fishing / family boat. Ended up with a side console. Removable cushions up front and it essentially becomes a bow rider, remove them and presto there's your casting deck.

Other advantage is more room than a dedicated bow rider for the same length.

Thanks mate. It's not 100% necessary but I think the wife will also appreciate the full windscreen.

Thanks will do. I'm hoping prices come down in  winter.

  2. Hi all, I am considering a second hand bow rider to cover dual duties as my bigger fishing boat and a family fun boat for towing tubes etc..

I'm looking at Quintrex Freedoms and Stacer Easy Riders primarily but happy to hear other suggestions.

I want to use mainly for Murray cod and yellowbelly fishing in rivers and lakes, but have some concerns, and hoping some of you may have experience with this:

    * I plan to build a flat, removable casting deck for the front seating area. Looks like it should work but these boats have considerably higher sides than your usual cod fishing boat. Will this be an issue?

    * A lot of the Quintrex Freedoms don't have very big motors, and don't seem to be rated for very high HP motors. Will say a 60-75HP tow a tube on one of these boats?

    * Are they ok in shallow water encountered when cod and yella fishing? They seem to have a deeper draft.

Any info would be appreciated, I have access to small tinny's so thinking something more multi - purpose might be the go. Just don't want to shoot myself in the foot by trying to do too much with one boat.

  3. Hi,

I live a long way inland but going to Murramarang near Bateman's Bay in a few weeks. Plenty of experience with trout, redfin, cod etc in the fresh but have done bugger all salt fishing, so have a few noob questions to get me started:

I have a beach rod - what line and leader should I spool it with for fishing the Durras area, and what bait?

What rod and reel for estuaries/rivers in this area? I have plenty ranging from small trout spinning rods up to big Murray Cod baitcasters. And again, what bait and lures? Pretty keen on having a crack at Bass.

Also considering taking my kayak to try on Durras lake.

    Thanks!

Hope you do well, or at least, enjoy yourselves. I haven't done much freshwater fishing in Victoria. Recently I have been making the 3 hr drive down to the Edward River at Deniliquin. It is in good condition and there are good Murray Cod being caught. I have fished the Ovens River at Porepunkah and caught Trout, Redfin and even a Murray Cod there. Let us know how you go and keep in touch. The Murrumbidgee will get back to normal eventually. bn

Thanks big Neil. I hope to get over your way soon. Good to hear the Deniliquin area is fishing well too, it's not too far away from me.

Hume Dam over here is very active with redfin and yellowbelly, and there has been some good cod caught in the Murray.

  5. Hi all,

A mate and I are going to the GoFish Nagambie event in Feb. We are trying our hardest to avoid crowds and would prefer not to camp in the common area. I reckon most of the free camping spots like Majors Creek will be packed out also. But we've never been to the area before so let me know if I'm wrong.

Does anyone know of some lesser-known spots where we can tie up the boat and camp? We’re trying to avoid staying too far away as would prefer to leave the boat in the water and not have to launch at the crowded ramps every day.

Cheers, I know its a long shot but thanks for reading.

  6. Hi all first time poster.

A mate and I were planning on heading to  Darlington Point on the Murrumbidgee on 11-13th of Feb, but we hear it's pretty flooded out that way at the moment.

Is anyone able to shed some light on what the Murrumbidgee is like out that way and if theres any chance of it dropping in time? It's a fair hike for us to get there and we may go elsewhere if the fishing is going to be too hard going.

    Cheers.
