  1. I bought some pippis from my local fish shop in Dee Why last week ($9.99 a kilo) and gave them a shot at Narrabeen Beach. managed two smallish bream and one whiting. Switched to bloodworms and got lots of bites but couldn't hook whatever was nibbling..probably small stuff.

The pippis are Ok as bait but are a bugger to keep on the hook as they seem to be able to suck it off the hook before you feel a good bite.

Might give it another shot as I only had an hour or so to try 'em out.

Anyone else had much success with pippis?

    Pete.

Pete. Try putting a piece of something like chicken gut skin on the hook after the pippy has been threaded on,they cant get it off as easy. Ben.

  2. G'day all,

I have a 5m half cabin fibreglass boat on a single axle trailer. I find that the boat/trailer startes to swerve from side to side once I reach around 85km+. I have recently changed the hubs, bearings and springs to try and fix this problem, to no avail. I now suspect that the wheels (9inch) may be the problem. Will bigger wheels stop the swerving? Does anyone have any other suggestions of what the problem could be?

    Cheers.

Hi Dorf. All you need is more weight on the tow-ball,move some gear up the front of the boat,it will solve your problem.Ben. (basic-fisho) P s. Move the axle back one notch if the trailer is the type you can do that with.

  3. :yahoo: Problem fixed, turned out to be a loose magnetic washer on the float in the oil reservoir. This tank is a sealed plastic unit and costs over $100 to replace. Therefore I cut the float unit out of the tank, resecured the washer and plastic welded the float back in the tank

Cost ? 30 minutes and a stubbie of VB.

Thanks to everyone for your assistance with your replies

Hi Hounddog. I have a 40 Mariner oil injected, and your problem sounded just like mine.I took mine to where i bought it, and the machanic said the sender was stuffed.he said i would have to buy the oil plastic carrier as well, about $185 plus labour.how did you find out it was the Magnetic washer that was the problem.I am thinking of going over to mixing the oil and petrol as i go along, but i would much rather be in a position like you,and be able to use the motor as was intended,Any imformation that you can give will be appreciated.Ben.

  4. :05: Hi Guys. I always try to park the trailer wheels against a curb if there is one,or back it up so there is no way to get it out.I also have a chain and lock on the hitch.DONT keep your trailer looking nice and tidy, polished, etc. Ben.
  5. Bob Smith. Not a good idea to scoff at the suggestion of compromise.John Howard has had a lot of compromising to get through what he wanted this week. but he was successful at the finish,I thought Bluecod had a very good point, and for you to speak so bluntly to the people you are trying to get onside, well you could be doing a good job FOR the GREENS. Thats how i see it,lets work together, with as little friction as possible with each other. Ben.
  6. Ok ill will do that.

How should i go about re-charging the battery the last6 time that it did it i just used a trickle charger to get it charged, i dont want to do it this way if it is going to damage the battery though!!

Sea jay.Trickel charge is the way to go.I came back from the U.K. this year after being away 4 months and the motor started first crank, without any charging,so you could have a drain some where.Try removing one of the batt.leads as suggested and that will tell you iff you have a drain, but make sure it is charged up before disconecting the batt.lead, to give it a fair chance..Ben.

  7. pogo could be right, the sender might be stuck down low (or stuffed altogether) causing the buzzer to go off. I had to get a new fuel sender (very costly for my boat) as it constantly showd a 3/4 full fuel tank.

Ben, when i had the buzzer going off i rang my local dealer who services my boat and they told me the problem over the phone(as i said, turned out to be low on gear oil), try doing the same as it will save you taking it to them to get charged just so they can have a look.

Hi Jewnut . I changed the oil in the gear box. You actually did me a favour as i had neglected to keep up to the oil.But it did,nt make any differance. In the owners manual it only mentions the water over heating in the engine, and the low on oil that can start the sender alarm off. Thanks for your interest.Ben

  8. :05: Hi guys. I have a problem.I get a warning signal when i turn the ignition on,and when it is running,i have tried it in foreward and reverse it is still there. I got some good advice yesterday from Hottunna and jewnut, sadly it did,nt work.I found my owners manual and it said the warning signal is for oil out or very low, there was plenty in the container,it is fuel injected. It aso said the other thing was over heating of the motor. The water is coming through very strong, and apart from that it did it again this morning when the motor was cold.I also changed the oil in the gear housing. If any one would like to give an opinion on what it could be i would be grateful. I am leaning to the feeling that the switch is faulty in the control box where the noise is coming from. The motor is a 98/ 40 h.p. Marina. I have never had a problem with the motor before.

Here,s hoping some one can come up with some ideas. Thanks in advance.Ben.

  9. :05: Thanks to/ May Be NOT and Jewnut. It was raining very heavy when i got home so have not had time to check anything out,but will definetly check the oil,the water was pumping out well and felt very good and cool so im hoping it will be the gear oil i never thought of that so thanks again, there is always some help on fishraider  Ben.
  10. :1badmood: Hi Phild.I too went out at the break of day,i put in at Brooklyn, headed to west head and got some live Y. Tail.went out to 40 mtr. east of the Joey. put the Y.T. down and watched a stream of fish on the sounder, but not a touch, when i reeled the Y.T. in one was missing the other was mangled up and i never felt a thing,it was like a bloody washing machine out there for tinnies.coming back in at Lion Island the warning for something went off,the noise was coming from the hand control for forward and reverse, the first thing i thought of was the water pump but it was working fine ,so i came back very steady, and now will have to try to work out what alarm is situated in the forward reverse power trim box. ANY ideas chaps. It,s a poor report for fishing ,but very well done Phild, there would appear to be a lot more King fish down your way than up here at Broken Bay.Probably fishing skills come into it as well.Ha.Ha.
  11. :1welcomeani: Hi Bombora. I wonder what the chance is of getting them out of the Hawks. I dont fancy my chances, but it is a shame as i think the Hawks. would have to be one of the best breeding places on the East Coast.Look how well Botany Bay fired up when they got the pros. out.Ben.
  12. Hi Guys. What size hooks would you use to catch the leather jackets that dwel in the 50 mtr. water.

I am assuming they are quite big and would need a larger hook than the fish round the piers.I intend using a wire trace as well, i have never targeted the Leatheries before, thanks in advance for any help. Ben.

  13. :1prop: Well done Joe,you can see by the posts its time you were back mate.NOTHING can be that bad that one of you can,t soften, come on guys a little humble pie never hurt any one,the site is just not the same, this is my last word on the topic.Somebody make a lot of fishraiders happy.:beersmile: Ben.
  14. took my 2.5 yr old today for a spot of fishing. got back to the boat ramp this afternoon, low and behold some lame dog arse has stolen the wobble rollars off my trailer. :mad3: i cant believe some low live would do this. i hope they are happy with themselves as i now have to fork out $240 for new ones. i hope their boat sinks. assholes.......... :ranting2::ranting2::ranting2: if i find then i will sink their boat myself. lucky i had installed a padlock onto the trailer else the whole kit and cabbodle might have been gone. i am just so pissed off. :ranting2::ranting2::ranting2:

Bisso.I live at Hornsby,i have some rollers that might be of some use to you, they are free if you can use them, let me know where you live (area) and if it is handy to you we can arrange a meet.Hornsby as in Sydney north.Ben.

  15. seagulloutboard. Ben.

    another shot

    1 more after this.

last one.Looking foreward to the comments,i think some people think seagull are out of buisness, they still have a website trouble is they are all on holidays for a month.Ben.

  16. Hi Guys. Thanks for the advice. This is a very uptodate one,It has a built in clutch.I havent seen one like it before.I brought out from the U.K. 38 yrs.ago a seagull outboard, now that was very old.Tomorrow i will take a photo of this one, and post on boats, It will be good to see if anyone has any knowledge of it.If you get chance to look in the book Boppa, see if there is any ref. to the engine No.(WSC997FF9.) Thanks Grantm, and Fishn. Ben.(basic fisho).

  17. Hi guys. I sent a seagull outboard here from the U.K. and it hasnt got the book with it,

I wonder if any one knows the plug and points settings for them. The number on the crank case is WSC997FF9.if that makes a differance. Thanks for any input in advance. Ben.
