  1. Hi,

I own a 50 etec on a 4.6m stabicraft. It gets onto the plane easy, wot at 5700rpm does 28.5 knots and uses about 12l of fuel for 2 hours of run time on a day out, with varing rpms, idle to wot. IT doesn't vary much when fully loaded. It also uses stuff all oil, put about an egg cup in after every trip.. Have 65 hours on the motor and used about 3/4 of a gallon bottle of xd100, with the engine oil bottle still full.

  2. This is one, hopefully an E-TEC owner can answer. I have asked Huey to find out, but in the meantime, I would like to see if anyone has had this issue and may have fixed it.

Took the boat out yesterday after having a new E-TEC put on. I noticed that when the motor is running, there is bad interference on the 27mhz radio. No amount of squelch fixed it.

I tested to see whether the interference was through the electrical side, or radio wave interference via the antenna. After taking the antenna off, the interference disappeared. When I placed the antenna back on, the interference was back. It is obviously radio wave interference. Has anyone had this issue before with an E-TEC, and had a solution to fix it. I have read reports, the lower end HP motors can be prone to this, so maybe someone has an idea.

I do have VHF which has no problems, but I use the 27mhz alot, particularly fishing inland or at dams. Also, during social events. This is a radio that I would like to still use. Only happens when the motor is running, and it hasn't practicle all the time just to switch the outboard off just to make a radio call.

Chopper, I have a 50 hp etec on a tinny and have the same problem. Bloody annoying. From what I can gather it still broadcasts and receives ok though. I have trolled the web for answers for years but no luck.

The big question, how did it go???????

  3. Hi,

managed to spend a day on the nepean today with a result of two bass 39cm and 40cm on spinner bait. Got the first one at the wallacia end near the near the weed boom with the second about 500 metres back down. All in all got a few bites, but had a fantastic day on the water.

  4. I have two, an 80L and a 40 L. I originally bought the 80 L for the boat, but it is a little bigger than I found I needed, so I found the 40 at the right price. Check their site, sometimes they have specials and are cheaper than ebay.

  5. Just what I wanted to hear!

I fell in love when I saw it.

My BMT is only 65okg so I thought that it should do it on its ear.

And the prices on the 2.7's are too hard to resist

  6. Hi guys,

I know this is the boating area but I will be towing a boat with the car.

I am looking for a bit of info on the toyota hilux 2.7l 4 cyl 99 models. This is a sr5 dual cab.

Has anyone got one, are there any common faults with them?

I am looking at this rig to tow a light aluminium (600kg) boat, and have found one in my price range with 170k on the clock. It has been continually (and recently) serviced and is in good knick.

I thought that the 2.7 might be an economical ( or more econimical) regular driver than the V6, and I cant afford a good diesel.

    Any one got any advice?

    Thanks

    Charlie

  7. Thanks for the tips.

Taking my 4.6m stabicraft. Have a mixture of light gear, and some heavier overhead outfits for the bigger stuff up to about 20kg.

I will be putting the boat in at Murrays and probably staying at greenpatch, or Huskisson.

  8. G'day,

I am taking my young bloke camping and fishing down Jervis Bay. I will be taking the boat.

Anyone got any good tips for inside the bay. I don't expect secret spots :1prop:

Just after any info about good baits, what is around e.t.c.

Also might have a go inside st georges basin if the bay is a bit rough, so anything for their would be appreciatted as well.

  9. Thanks for the info, I will give it a run and see how it goes. I can always lower it a hole if needed so nothing to lose. Although after feeling proud of myself and raising the motor I had thoughts of it falling in the drink and the :wife: saying "I told you not to touch the motor". I guess I can never say I had a quiet life!

    thanks again for the info

So you raised the outboard on your transom using the bolt holes doing so by moving to the next hole down on your motor .

It should be okay that the top of the top of the mount isn,t in contact with the top of the transom.

i am not sure what you mean about the lug doesn,t touch.

    Sorry, :(

I have just read what I wrote and it doesn't make much sense. I did raise my outboard using the bolt 'holes'. I moved two holes down on the motor. This brings the cavitation plate about 2mm above the bottom of the hull.

'lugs'. On the outboard, the top of the mount looks like an inverted U. With a horizontal bend (that appears to rest on the transom) and two vertical 'lugs' that appear to hang onto the transom. After raising the outboard, the horizontal section doesnt rest on top of the transom and the lugs don't come in contact with the transom.

After having a further look I dont think the lugs were in contact with the transom prior to raising the motor anyway, the gap is too large.

    thanks for your reply

  11. Gday,

I raised my 50 hp etec (on the back of a 459 stabicraft) a whole yesterday. The bracket at the top of the mounting plate on the outboard no longer comes in contact with the outbaord mount on the transom. The two vertical lugs that hang over the outboard mount don' touch either.

So basically it is only the 4 bolts holding it on. Is this o.k?

If I drop it a whole they wont contact any way, and if I drop it one more it will be back in its starting position

    cheers,

    Charlie

  12. Guys,

I couldn't agree more with your comments. I dropped my boat off a couple of weeks back for a few little things and the amount of help and advice I have received has been imessurable. As I am only new to the site and to boating, it was really appreciatted. They will have all of my future business. It is easy to work out why they have been in business for so long!!!!!!!! :yahoo:

    thanks,

    Charlie
