  1. thats a great effort guys a lot of people would be rapt if they caught your smallest flathead! what did the jew take if you dont mind me asking?

    well done

    pete.

the jew was caught on fresh hawkesbury squid

  2. went for a fish with a mate down at berowra last sunday (oct 17), by 11.00am we had a nice feed of fish. 1 x jewy at 22lb and 1mtr long, 1x flatty at 7.5lbs and 72cm long, 1 flatty at 62cm long and 3 x flatys from 49cm - 56cm long the catch bag weighed in at 39lbs, great feed of fish and about time as the rest of my year has been a bit quiet. the jewy took out about 150mtrs of line on his first run and then a boat tried to cross the path of my line. i quickly opened the bail arm and dropped the rod tip to the water, the boat only just missed my line (lucky). he got a few nice names shouted at him and then i got back into the fight. Once i turned the fish i got right into him keeping him heading towards me. just as we landed him the other rod went off with the big flatty, it was mayhem for about 20mins. Great day , great catch and great weather, what more can you ask for......

  3. monduran is a hard one to crack. i found it most productive at night on the piont of bird bay or trolling the main harbour with bombers. night time seemed to produce bigger fish as well. Next time you go up give awoonga a crack as well !!!! also November is the best time so you should be able to catch one when you go.

  4. Went for a fish tonight/this morning at elanors bluff and between juno and brooklyn and landed 4 hammerhead sharks and one bronze whaler. i lost about 10 other rigs to sharks during the night as well. ended up getting one small jew 50cm and one nice flatty 60cm and at least 15 eels and 10 catfish. didnt get much of a feed but had plenty of action. Its adrenalin rushing being in 2 up in a ten foot boat in the dark with a hammerhead shark thrashing around on the floor :1yikes: lol!!!!

  5. talking about sharks i'm pretty sure i hooked up onto a big one 2 friday nights ago in berowra waters, my line took off at 100mph and ran for ten seconds then "snap" .wheeled in my line to discover that i lost my hooks and half my trace 2 x 10.0 hooks 80lb flouro trace and a full large callamarri (fishing for jews). the trace was frayed up past half way. also my father lives at wisemans ferry and often see's bull sharks feeding in the shallows at sunset (cruising around with the dorsal fin exposed out of the water) also about 10 yr ago three people in berowra lost there dogs to bull sharks in one week and that was in summer two. i wouldnt swim in there if my life depended on it

  6. is this from the place im thinking of :1naughty::1naughty:

pitty about the big girl you lost eh,sounds like it was a real trophy one eh......

ive noticed the odd smaller bite sized squid come in around pylons etc and as you have said very shy....

ive been getting some massive ones from 25cm to 40cm hoods last 6 - 8 weeks...

donated my fav jig to one of 2 last night i originally thought were rays cruisin the shallows... aprox 60 - 70 cm hoods and over a foot wide (inc wings) :1yikes: , by the time i got another jig on they dissapeared...

easily the biggest i have seen inside and even off the rocks thats a massive squiddie....

yeh its the spot your thinking about, i got a massive one to about 2 weeks ago with a hood about 40cm

hey mick its ethan from the club great jews there pretty big suckers did u go to windamere outing i didn't had stuff going on with my job the weather was pretty bad too don't know if ron or anyone caught fish there. you coming friday night

    seabee113.4

no i didnt go to windemere because of the weather i spoke to paul and the weather was real bad so we didnt miss out on anything. yeh i should be there friday night

  7. :1yikes: well done mate...

what a great session to blood the young bloke with..

few good feeds of jewy steaks there eh...

hows the squid fishing been lately...

    cheers...steve.....

ive been getting about 4 to 5 a night at the wharf but had the ocasional good night with 8. i had three perfect bait size calamari come right up onto the steps in front of me on thursday night but they wouldnt take a jig. if a had a landing net i rekon i would of been able to get them, they were very dosile.

It's a big ask for a 4 year old to use a gaff. The fish sounds like it would have been bigger than him!

no he only put it in the rod holder next to me and then he removed the piont protector so it was ready for me to use. the fish was definatly bigger then him

  8. took my 4 yr old son down to berowra for his first fish in a boat today (sunday 5th october) to see if he followed in his fathers footsteps and while i was still rigging up he allready had a nice flatty on about 45cm, the excitement on his face said a thousand words. After that we both got a few small soapys and then i got i nice flathead about 48cm. things started to get a bit quiet so i moved to the other side of the river (a secret family spot) and put on some large strips of fresh squid. within ten minutes i got a 5lb jewy on my light rod and within another ten minutes a hooked up on a 8lb jew. after about another 20 minutes i hooked up on something big on my heavy gear. this thing ran like a freight train for about 150mtrs then i turn him, for about 45minutes i played him, i even had boats stop to spectate. i finally got him close to the boat and my son got the gaff ready. he came up from the deep then i saw a large flash of a huge jewy tail and then he ran again did some big head shakes and then he was gone. he had to be at least 50 - 60 lb for what i saw and felt (disapointment +++). when i pulled in my line the hook 8.0 had almost been straightened (big fish). After re rigging i threw out another big bait hoping to get his brother and within another 10 minutes "bang" off the drag went. i fought this fish for about 15minutes and then got him in (14lb jew), Nice fish but nothing like the one before. overall the weather, fishing and company was perfect and went home with about 25lb of fish so i cant complain

ill have to get the big one next week :)post-5094-1223219658_thumb.jpg

  9. ..... that's a top catch you got there mate ......nice jewie too. ......

:074::074: funny post! I bet a few others were thinking the same!

    G'day 10footUFO

What a terrific post! Congratulations to your better half for hooking & playing the jewie so well!! By the time you got it, I reckon it was ready to roll over & come in timidly!! :) GO GIRL!! All the more so, given the temperature! :1yikes:

Hmmm, I'll have to check out this Spencer Area one day - perhaps we should have a social up there. I have heard of it being a top blackie spot as well as bream, flattie & famous for jews! I have a secret map!! ;) The blackies used to go 4lb plus about 20 years ago - & if not being targetted too much (or netted) now, would probably be similar sized even now!!

Well done on getting out & getting top results! Fresh bait, fresh weather = top fish!

    Cheerio

    Roberta

start using that secret map, all the spots my father showed me as a kid 25-30 yrs ago are getting more fish than most other areas. these areas were over fished years ago so people have stopped fishing there but dont realize that the fish have returned. also the new generation dont know about these spots so you will have them to yourself

  10. Nice jewfish 10ftUFO  By hooking a jewfish of that size I'll bet your wife will be much keener next time to keep you company down there at Spencer, that's for sure.

For many weeks now the downriver areas have not been producing, and going on good results around Spencer in previous years, it would be definately worthwhile spending a lot more time upriver in places like Marlo and Spencer, rather than wasting bait and good fishing time fishing anywhere between the bridges and the mouth.

    Cheers

    jewgaffer :1fishing1:

if you ask me i reckon that spencer or berowra waters produce the biggest fish in the hawkesbury (all species). i never seem to have much luck around the bridges or juno etc. my father has caught over 20 jews over 50 lb in berowra alone the top 3 being 84lb 73lb and 68lb and all old school on hand lines. also two years ago in berowra i caught the biggest bream i have ever seen 53cm and 51cm about ten minutes apart from each other and these areas always seem to produce good size flattys too, and the best of all is that these areas are not over crowded. lots of large boat traffic is not comfortable in a ten foot boat lol

  11. I don't recognise the ramp where the photos are taken to be one anywhere around Spencer???

no i launch at berowra allways. its the best ramp in the hawkesburry

Great jewie. well done! Whereabouts in Spencer did you catch it?

just up from the caravan park off one of the creeks that come out of the mangroves

  12. went down to spencer today (saturday 19 july) for a fish with the missus. i promised her that she would catch something good since i conned her into going fishing on a 5 degree celcius morning but i didnt want her to get a bigger one than me lol . i had some fresh calamari i caught two nights before and i said to my wife with a smirk that this is garanteed to catch a big jewfish, so i casted it out for her and wihin ten minutes the rod had a few nibbles on it and then it slowly pulled down, so i said to my wife "hit it" so she pulled back and BANG the line started pealing off 100mph. it kept going and going to the point that there was about 5 mtrs of line left on the reel. my wife got worried she was going to loose it and said to me you take over. so i grabbed the rod adjusted up the drag as much as i could without snapping the line and i got into it. at first i was sure it was a stinger but after about 20 minutes of fighting i finally felt some head shakes, so i said to the wife get the gaff ready and after about another five minutes of fighting we saw colour and then the adrenalin started .i finally got it up and gaffed it first go. after getting it in the boat we discovered that it was only hooked by the small keeper hook so we were very lucky to land it . it weighed 27.5 pound and was 111cm long after that i caught a average bream and got nothing else for the rest of the day but a couple of small tailor

the day was perfect, good company, good weather and the best of all "good fish"

  13. well done mate

makes a difference with the self caught squid doesnt it..

have you been getting many squid lately...

    cheers...steve......

i have only been squiding once in the last month at the spit and got 1 but two weeks prior to that i got 3 and lost a couple at palm beach wharf but im hopefully going this week to palm and im trying to con the missus into taking it up

  14. went fishing in berowra waters yesterday expecting the worst as it was raining when i got to the ramp and i was expecting no fish because of all the rain that we have had. to my supprise i hooked onto a nice jewy at the turn of low tide. After doing some rod juggling around the anchor ropes and haveing a gaff that was to short for a solo trip and my landing net getting tangled in my other rod i finally landed it. it weighed 18lb and was 102cm long. i also landed a couple of average flattys, so the fishing turned out good and the weather turned out absolutely perfect, best fishing day in a long while.

  15. I went out on berowra waters on saturday and it was good to see the water was clearing up after all the rain and the dam run out from two weeks ago and it was a perfect day with no wind and the best of all good bait after trying to master squid jigging with some great tips from roosterman i finally nailed two nice sized squid (thanks roosterman). got on the water about 6.00am and i thought i'd try a spot i dont normally fish which was corel trees opposite kinglykong bay. the first hour was quiet but after that the bites were consistant and ended up catching about 8 throw back soapy jews, a just legal bream (that went back for a swim) and 7 nice flattys which were all over 45cms. Ended up with a nice feed (pitty no bigger jews) but you cant beat the eating quality of flathead so all in all it was a awsome day. sorry no pics

also does anyone know how spenser is fishing at the moment because i want to try it next week
