  1. Hey I remember that storm...a while ago now, I was flying that day and had to approach under that roll cloud to land at mascot. Was a really turbulent approach. Pictures of the storm were in the paper the next day

  2. Hi guys,

I like a land based fish sometimes but how should i fish when its extra windy?

Should i just not bother trying to get the massive wind belly out of my line and just hope a decent fish takes off the the bait?

If thats the strategy i guess its best to just use a circle hook and pray? No real point looking at the rod since you wont be able to detect any bites

    cheers :)

I suppose try to find somewhere that is sheltered, or if you cant keep the tip of the rod low, to avoid line bow. Gees that even rhymes.

  3. Maybe a lot of it is physiological.

Its really nice to see the float go down in nice mirror water. For me, generally after a period of time fishing, the wind comes up and it becomes uncomfortable to cast and gets cold, time to pack it in. But I have noticed that they seem to "go off the bite" when it gets rough.. :( ????

  4. Hi all,

Went out today chasing blackies at my favorite spot. After quite a few outings recently, bring home only ones and twos, today they were thick. You know its good when you dont even have time to have a cigarette

From the first cast there was action, weed only just had time to reach depth and I was on. Non stop action, dropped a lot and got busted off three times by some big ""mamas" that I couldn't land an 6lb gear. Lost one to a huge Kingy that smashed my fish right in close to the rocks :1yikes:

No real size to speak of, all fish 30-37cm...managed to take home seven, could have been more, but so much time was spent re rigging :mad3:

All in all they are on!!!

    Some details

    Place Botany bay

    Date 28/9/09

    Time 1100-1300

    Tide run in

    wind 250/15-20 kts

    Temp 19 deg

    Barometer 1006

    Humidity 30%

Moon waxing one week off full

Water temp too cold to go in!

  5. Hi Roberta, just wondering if you get any of those little white or red colored like "worms" in the flesh of your bigger fish?

I fillet and skin and most of the 40+ cm models I have caught here in Sydney, they seem to have at least 1 or 3 in their flesh. I try to pick them out with varying sucess :(

Does anyone know what they are? Are they nutritional or should i keep picking them out??

This is what I'm talking about......

  6. I just bought a new boat and decided to take 'er for the maiden voyage this past weekend.

This is my first boat and I wasn't quite sure of the exact Standard Operating Procedures for launching it off a ramp, but I figured it couldn't be too hard.

I consulted my local boat dealer for advice, but they just said "don't let the trailer get too deep when you are trying to launch the boat".

Well, I don't know what they meant by that as I could barely get the trailer in the water at all.

    Anyhow, here's a picture below.

    See for yourself.

What am I doing wrong? post-5408-1250723530_thumb.jpg

  7. Yes Roberta, have noticed the same down this way, the last 10 or so outings producing only one and twos. Some days I have sat there doing all the right things, not even a down all day! The odd fish I have caught have been 30-35 cm nothing special, the big ones must still be waiting outside :(

  8. I did a search last night on The Leader online - no results.

    mrsswordie

Yep I did a search too, took ages :( he said it went 5.7 kg. :1yikes:

Will see him again and do a little more digging, will let you all know. Maybe a photo of the said Bream at the bait shop on the northern side of the Tom Ugly s Bridge. Does anyone go there? Might have to do a trip there myself as Im bloody curious.

  9. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of the monster bream that was caught near the Captain Cook bridge?

I went into my local bait shop and the guy who works there (known him for a long time) told me about it.

I wont say the weight at this stage, as you would all laugh at me.

Evidently there was a photo of it in the local (Sans Souci area) paper.

Did anyone see this or have a copy of it?

  10. Hi Craig

We spent a week in Darwin recently, primarily a fishing come photography trip. Hired a car and fished land based around Nightcliff, East point, Buffallo Creek and a boat ramp near the Port with varying success.

Had a cast net (plenty of bait available). Always managed a feed, however caught a lot of catfish and smallish sharks. Nothing of any size, but some great runs that I could not land. Never the less plenty of action and got some great pictures.

    Cheers Greg

  11. G'day mate , they are lovely pics I love those burnt orange shots,

    do you use lens filters?.

    Great pics mate.. :greatpics:

    Cheers..

    Hi Ray

I do have some polarizing filters but they were not used in the shots.

The photos were straight off the camera using a "sunset" setting which basically

adjusts the colour temperature up a little..

Here is some more examples from around Sydney,

you may recognize the location? post-5408-1245644532_thumb.jpgpost-5408-1245644562_thumb.jpgpost-5408-1245644581_thumb.jpgpost-5408-1245644608_thumb.jpgpost-5408-1245644639_thumb.jpg

    Cheers Greg
