Looking at taking my 84 year old father fishing tomorrow in Botany Bay. (First time I will have had the boat in the water for almost 6 months.) Unfortunately I am not the world's best fisherman, probably the worse, especially when it come to locating the fish. Can anyone give me suggestions of where I might try to at least get some bites?
I would be looking at using baits.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would start by asking your family and friends if they would use such a service if it was available. That would give you some feedback on its viability.

You can buy it from some tackle stores. I have seen it for sale at Tackle World.
Great stuff. Makes cleaning the boat a lot easier.

xd-50 and xd-100 are both Evinrude oils. Great stuff. Would not use anything else.

Only problem with the quote is the first part which states "Power vessels must give way to". We are talking about sailing vessels and this requirement makes it clear that the sailing vessel has a right of way over a power vessel and even a driting vessel.
We might not like it but it is the law.

What is the minimum distance? I do not think there is any specified so long as an accident does not occur.
special privileges? I thought we "paid" for that with our fishing license, there's no such thing as a sailing license! ..... I feel for these guys it's hard enough to get out on the water in the first place considering, costs: fish lic, boat lic, boat & safety gear, regos, insurance, fishing gear, tackle, baits, fuel, food, drinks, and most importantly earning brownie from the mrs, and then the freaken weather n tides to catch some bloody fish! I thought this was relaxing time!!!! But seriously!!! We need to share our water ways it belongs to everyone we need to have common sense and courtesy when it comes to water safety obviously these jr guys should really be careful and us fishermen should try and find some spots which are more secluded to avoid any incidents!! Unfortnately paying of our fishing licenses does not give us any special privileges on the water. It only allows us to fish.
The real truth is not if an accident was to occurr the blame could go either way but the law of the water is that a vessel under sail has the right of way over a vessel under power and as stated earlier, drifting is the same as being under power. I know it is not idea but it is the law.
The best thing we can do is to try and find a secluded spot away from the sailing boats. Not easy I know.

Part of the problems is that all the requirements are about avoiding collisions. They are not about not cutting through fishing lines. Therefore providing they avoid a collision, under the law, they can come as close to you as they want. The rules are for all users of the waterways and not just fisherman.
Sometimes we need to remember that we are just another user of the waterways and just because we want to catch fish it does not give us any special previleges.

I am after some advice. I have a Haines Hunter 520SF boat which is a cabin but no flat area at the front of the boat. Is it possible to still fit a bow mounted electric motor to this type of boat?
Any ideas or suggestions?

Putting that much weight at the rear of the boat will often lead to problems with the boat getting up on the plane also I have seen boats fiding with noise high on the water due to too much weight back.
I would ask Craig form Huett's as I am sure he will be able to provide you with the right information but, personally, I would be very cautious.

Hi El Feroz, the question you have put forward is like asking how long is a piece of string. You can get away with a different boat on Lake Illawarra then what you can off the beaches. Running cost would also be dependant on what size boat, type of motor, etc.
As far as costly to run it depends on your situation. A person who owns a 50ft game fishing boat would not think a 90hp 5 metre boat costly to run but a person who operates a 3 metre boat with a 15hp motor might think the opposite.

The correct place to find out exactly what the legal towing limits of the car is to look in the vehicle owner's manual which came with the car. It is stated in there.
I have a VE model which I can purchase a 2.1 tonne towbar from Holden to suit but the owner's manual states that I am legally allowed to tow 1.6 tonne.

I think you will find that the Holden has a maximum rated towing load of 1.6 tonne. The car will tow 2 tonne, and a lot more, see how many people are towing cars on car trailers, but if you are going to tow constantly and want to be safe you will need a four wheel drive (or truck). The last thing you need is to have an accident and then find all your insurance is void because you were towing too much weight.

Diesels are like any other motor. It needs to be looked after. If they have been looked after, generally speaking they will outlast a petrol motor. Things to check is the r servicing records, does it blow smoke and carbon build up in the oil. Normally a diesel should not blow smoke and the oil should be clean. If it blows smoke or carbon in the oil, stay clear otherwise they are, generally, good reliable motors.

I believe moving to facebook or opening a fecebook page would be a "BAD" move. Facebook has no controls. It would open to anybody for any reason. A lot of the useful information gained on this site would be lost as I believe a lot of the genuine posters from this site would not post to facebook.
I have a personal facebook page but a lot of the information I do not even bother to look at as it is a waste of time and space.
Just my thoughts.

If you want to weigh for rego purposes you will need to located a "Registered Weighbridge". There are a number of them around. Also if you want to get weighed for rego the trailer weight is taken with the trailer by itself, i.e. no boat loaded.
Like everything, they will charge for the service.

I do not know if they are available for 27 Mhz and VHF. I used to own one that allowed normal AM/FM radio and 27 Mhz. Seemed to work Ok but I think it lowered the signal strength and quality on both units.
