Hi Guys,
I received a Scotty downrigger 1050 for xmas
Just trying to work out the best way to fit it to my Hornet Trophy 475.
I have been looking at the optional mounts available and either from lack of information or too many beers I can't work out which one I need
I already have the 360°C Swivel Mount for the larger boat but the dimensions of the base mount doesnt really fit on the gunnels on the 475.(I want it arms reach from the seating position)
If anyone has any experience with the 1050 to the 475 I would be greatly appreciated if you could give any photos/advice/recommendations or beer.
matt
ps......on other sites so i apologise if you read this elsewhere

i believe this is a safety issue. fish the damn wall at your own risk.
i too have spoken to security with no probs. many many locals fish it regularly too.
just pick up your rubbish and all will be okay

top little session.
in regards to eating fish from the river, i for one would never eat a resident fish from or even near the cooks. i have heard and seen some nasty stuff in there
i feel sick just fishing it some days
-
Please submit your spearfish into the record section
Cheers Swordfisherman
how can he submit it if he never weighed or measured it stew?
BTW hal, awesome fish

the bridge has been fishing very poorly lately. i chucked lures around lastnight for a few hours on the tide change/sunset for 3 flatties and 6 squid
the only way to cook tailor is to smoke them. bloody sensational with a beer

?????????????????????
hi mate just wondering... do you ever have any luck on full moons under bridge lights... theres a bridge up here or in ballina that i can spot jew under, on a new moon or when theres very little moon.. but when its full or near full they haven't ever been there..its quite a shallow water bridge that doesn't have allot to offer other than shade but... ps its been a shit season for me this year with nothing over twelve kg and few and far between and all taken off rocks or boat near rocks...
i have caught jews at this bridge on every moon phase and any tide. actually one of my best nights was on a full moon. with 3 in the boat we landed 8 or 9 soaps biggest going 9kg. it has just been a shithouse summer
-
water temp might have an effect on the small soaps. i guess not on the big ones cause i have heard heaps of reports of 10kg+ jews landed off the 3rd runway on live yakkas latey. i guess the larger ones do as they feel.
i recon the small soaps will be up the river. larger ones near the mouth
luke, not sure on that. last year there were 15+ boats floggin the bridge almost every night i was out there and last year was a cracker season. i havent seen as many this year but i have only been out there 3 or 4 times the last 3 months. before that it wasnt that busy either. glad the kings are close by or i'de go nuts

hey guys,
well i absolutly cut the water to froth lastnight. i threw everything that has been successful in the past for 1 40cm flattie and a lost soapie. (couldn't set the hook with rum in hand)
if some of you guys are serious about the up and coming jew night i would stay away from capt cook bridge......or only hit it on the tide change if desperate as that is when i lost the soap and landed the flattie. heaps of birds and bait there but no jew
either head up milpera/picnic pt way or dump some live yakkas 400m off the 3rd runway.
good luck, i would join you but im off to south west rocks on saturady morning for 2 weeks

Hmmm them people from "the shire" seem to be "jewfish whisperers"!!! And can they catch them
sshhhhhhhh :harhar:
-
1. How many jewies would you catch in a year (i.e. <1, 10, 50, 100!!??) - include all kept and released fish ?
around 100 per season
2. What $ value would you outlay to catch an average size jewie (say 4-5 kg). Include in your answer the total cost you would outlay for a trip to target jews specifically (i.e. beer , bait, tackle, boat fuel etc)? As a guide this answer would typically be in the range of $20 - $100).
fuel: $2-5
beer: $10
lures: $$$$$$$
catching soaps on light gear....priceless
3. What $ value would you put on the experience of catching an average sized jew (i.e. aesthetic value). Try comparing the enjoyment you get out of it with the enjoyment you may get from a night on the drink that cost you $100 (Dont inflate this one too much)?
1-4kg: $5
4-6kg: $25
10kg+: $100+
4. If there were more jews in a system (i.e. stocking jewfish resulted in better catch rates), would you go fishing more for them. This is especially relevant for those who fish for the fun of it but release their catch?
probably not
5. How many nights a year would specifically go fishing to target jewfish?
60-70 nights
check your PM's matt

Saturday: Wind:N/NE 15/20 knots ahead of a late S'ly change 20/25 knots at night. Waters:1.5 to 2.5 metres.
Sunday Outlook: Wind: SW/SE 20/25 knots.
Monday Outlook: Wind: S/SW 20/25 knots.
if i dont get out for a fish soon i wont be held responsible for my actions.
i even emailed the bom asking for decent conditions this weekend and the ba*tards serve that up
certainly doesnt look good. might be pub, dvd's and play with my tackle
-
heres my 2 cents
i was recently looking at both of them and i was leaning towards the sustain cause of the water proof drag. but then chose the symetre cause it was faster and the left over $$$ was donated to my tackle box
depends on what you want to use if for. i wanted a faster reel for pelagics. the twin power is alot lighter
-
definately go the symetre 4000.
its got the fastest ratio than all the other shimano 4000 reels if you also wanna spin for kings/salmon
-
im working thru the hols but will fish every night/arvo that has good weather. its been shithouse lately
come february i have 2 weeks off and heading to south west rocks
im stinging for this trip. got a good house close to both ramps and was cheap too
look out jews and cobes
-
The mullet is the same material as the Bass minnow but mullet shaped.
Looks good just not sure how well it works
Big Pete
sorry, i thought you meant the jerkshad in mullet pattern. havent used those ones
-
if its the 5" jerkshad then yes, i love that lure
its one of my fav jew sp's. matched with a 3/8oz 5/0 tt revhead is deadly.
-
good stuff mate
i hope its one of many for the future.
btw, which river were you fishing from?? bait or lure
-
Any size to the jew Matt.
about 3kg. i hit it lastnight for squat. watching the black clouds milling around
That's cheating. Sounds promising though...
yeah i know. how did ya go this morning?
