  1. Magoo,

One question, did you get the fiberglass or carbon fibre pole from Gary?

I am looking at fitting a set of riggers to my new boat. I'll get the poles from Gary but looking

at the Reelax Reef 450 wishbone style bases.

    Nathan

Nathan I got the carbon fibre poles and had Garry make me sleeves to stop any wear from removing the poles every trip

I've also had the glass poles on my old. Boat, they where good too,I didn't have sleeves made for them as they where glued into the bases

You won't be disappointed with either pole

    Cheers

  2. I bought both riggers and a shot gun pole from Garry, I also wanted internal slieving, that went inside the poles and extended out of the base and then into my rigger bases and my rocket launcher,I thought this would be a massive pain for him, he smiled and said, no problem, let me take some measurements and a couple days later he had turned up the slieves, and organised a whole kit, just too easy

And by the way the poles are stiff and light,my last poles where whippy and when it got rough and choppy, the lures would come hurtling out of the water as the poles whipped back and forth

Outrigger direct poles don't do that, the perfect, best set I've ever had to be honest, if your looking for poles, these are the ones to get

  3. if you can remove the hooks its always better, obviously if your going to damage them doin it dont ,ive tried most methods removing them ,but holding them by there bill to keep them off your head and removing with the other hand works, ive tried hook out poles with some succes but can be frustrating

2 seasons ago we caught a stripe that had a hook in its throat latch and had barnicles about the size of a cricket ball, pretty much blocking its mouth,it was a very lean fish

i use a bill rope on all fish to settle them while being towed, and then remove hooks and then revive

the use of a bill rope calms them and makes them safer to handle, but remember they can tee of on you in a flash

  4. it will be around 50 % cheaper with the optimax, with all things being equal with the boat,if its only a couple of grand, you will get that back in fuel

  5. Is that a shark daddy, can we eat himd31e03ba-70f9-ca5a.jpg

that is a great shot ,,strraight to the pool room with that one

i can imagine my wifes reaction wakeing up in the middle of the night to find that in the bath ,oh she would be wrapt

wrapping your hands around my neck maybe ,,well done guys ,great fish

  6. i used to inspect my bearings yearly and change them if there was freeplay or water intrusion in the grease ,i got caught out one day doin it a hundred klms from home ,so i replace them yearly now,and i keep a hub packed with a greased bearing in the car just incase

but in saying that i once got 5 yrs out of a set of bearings(single axle)but i lived two minutes from the ramp,i now live 30 minutes from the ramp and its a duel axle set up witch i beleive place more load on the bearing when turning

  7. the crookhaven bar is probably the safest bar in the state ,really only an issue in a strong north easter and a run out tide,a southerly of 30 knots and a run out tide, it will be flat as ,so if it blowing from the north east and your a tad nervous dont try and cross it on the run out ,but its still pretty safe compared to narooma ,or southwest rocks etc ,

you pretty much only get pressure waves not breakers(genrally)

    wear a pdf1

  8. ive got as set ,i dont think they clear the wash at normal trolling speeds,i use them when fishing inshore and coudnt be boothered bringing the riggers along ,they certainly help reducing tangles ,outriggers are much better but ,its a cheap fix if you know what i mean, they all also double when bottom fishing/drifting to get the right angle to use the baits out the side of the boat
